Quick answers

What is Slay the Spire 2?

Slay the Spire 2 is a roguelike deckbuilder developed by Mega Crit Games, the studio behind the original Slay the Spire. It entered Steam Early Access on 5 March 2026. Like its predecessor, each run has you building a card deck as you climb a procedurally generated map, fighting enemies and collecting relics — but the sequel adds new characters, an Enchantments system layered onto cards, Alternate Acts, and online co-op for up to four players. The game uses the Godot engine rather than the LibGDX engine of STS1.

How many characters are in Slay the Spire 2?

Five. Three characters return from the original game — the Ironclad (strength-based melee fighter who heals after every combat), the Silent (poison and discard synergies), and the Defect (orb-channelling energy builder). Two are new: the Necrobinder (a fragile lich who commands a skeletal companion named Osty, applies a Doom death-mark to enemies, and cycles through special zero-cost Soul cards), and the Regent (who uses a Forge mechanic to empower a Sovereign Blade for burst damage). The Ironclad is the most forgiving starting pick.

Is Slay the Spire 2 at version 1.0?

No. As of July 2026, Slay the Spire 2 is still in Early Access. Mega Crit estimates Early Access will last roughly one to two years, placing a full 1.0 release around 2027–2028. The game already launched with substantial content — 575+ cards, 278+ relics, and 63 potions — and receives regular patches that add content and tune balance.

Does Slay the Spire 2 have multiplayer?

Yes — the sequel adds online co-op for up to four players, which was not present in the original. Co-op fundamentally changes deck-building strategy since the team shares a single run and each player controls their own character. The co-op mode is included in Early Access at launch, not a later addition.

What are Enchantments in Slay the Spire 2?

Enchantments are modifiers that can be layered onto individual cards to give them additional effects or change their behaviour — acting like a second upgrade axis on top of the standard card upgrade system. They are one of the major new systems in STS2 that the original game did not have, and they can dramatically alter how a card plays within a given build.
