Survive the Blood-Soaked Wilds of Pywel

Crimson Desert is a single-player open-world action RPG developed by Pearl Abyss, released on March 19, 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and macOS. Despite its origins as a planned prequel to the online game Black Desert Online, it shipped as a fully standalone, offline single-player experience with no multiplayer component.

You play primarily as Kliff, a seasoned mercenary and leader of a band of fighters called the Greymanes. The story begins after a devastating night raid by a rival faction — the Black Bears — wipes out much of Kliff's company at their home in the region of Pailune. The game follows Kliff as he rebuilds his forces and uncovers a threat that puts the entire continent of Pywel at stake.

Combat in Crimson Desert is timing-based, not button-mashing. The core loop revolves around combo chains, well-timed parries (hold guard, release just before impact to stagger enemies), and dodges — a perfectly timed dodge actually restores stamina rather than draining it. Beginners should focus on stamina and health upgrades early, learn parry timing on weaker enemies, and prioritize ranged opponents first in group fights. A controller is strongly recommended over mouse and keyboard.

Pywel is a seamless open-world continent divided into five distinct regions: Hernand, Pailune, Demeniss, Delesyia and the Crimson Desert. Traversal options include riding horses and other mounts (including rideable dragons), climbing sheer cliff faces, and gliding from elevated positions. Each region has its own biome, factions and side content, and the world is designed to reward exploration rather than guiding you strictly along a critical path.
