Palworld Awakening Guide — Radiant Gems & Awakening Crystals

Updated July 20267 min readBy the HowToPlayHub team

Awakening is Palworld 1.0's endgame power system: gather elemental Radiant Gems and World Tree Holy Water in the World Tree region, forge them into an element-matched Awakening Crystal at the Ancient Workbench, then use that crystal to permanently boost one Pal's stats. It's a one-time, one-way upgrade — so this guide covers exactly what you need, how to get it, and which Pal to spend it on first.

01What Awakening Actually Does

Awakening applies a permanent, significant stat boost to a single Pal — full community testing puts the gain in roughly the 7–10% range across the Pal's core combat stats once fully applied. It doesn't wear off, doesn't require upkeep, and works on any Pal you can catch or breed, including mutated, Lucky, Alpha, and even your starter.

An awakened Pal is easy to spot: it gets a permanent golden glow in the overworld, and its level number glows in the party menu. The boost shows up as a separate line on the Pal's status screen, so you can compare before-and-after directly.

02Prerequisite: Unlocking the World Tree

Both the raw materials and the crafting station for Awakening are locked behind the World Tree, the endgame region added in the 1.0 update. If you haven't been there yet, you'll need to reach it first — that means working through the Panthalus questline, which starts by talking to the Ancient Civilization Researcher on the Deserted Islet, crafting the Echoing Flute from quest items marked around the map, and capturing (not killing) Panthalus to open the barrier at the World Tree terminal.

See the 1.0 Update Guide for the full rundown of what's in the World Tree and Sunreach regions before you head in.

03Farming Radiant Gems and World Tree Holy Water

Once inside the World Tree, both crafting materials drop from the Pals living there:

Because each Awakening Crystal needs 50 gems of one specific element (see recipe below), plan on a farming session focused on Pals of that single element rather than grabbing whatever drops — mixed-element gems from a scattershot run won't get you to 50 of any one type as fast.

04The Ancient Workbench

Awakening Crystals can only be crafted at the Ancient Workbench, a base structure unlocked in the Technology tab at level 67 for 5 Technology Points. Building it costs 50 Soralite Ingots, 5 AI Cores, and 20 Bio Batteries — all World Tree/Sunreach-tier materials, so expect to be well into the endgame before you can put one up.

Like other advanced crafting stations, the workbench isn't operated by hand — assign a Pal with both high Handiwork and high Medicine Production to it so it actually processes the crystal.

05Crafting and Using an Awakening Crystal

The recipe is the same for every element — only the Radiant Gem type changes:

Once the crystal finishes crafting at the Ancient Workbench:

  1. Open your Inventory.
  2. Select the Awakening Crystal and choose Use.
  3. Pick the compatible Pal (same element as the crystal) and confirm.
  4. The stat boost applies immediately and permanently — there's no cooldown or ritual beyond this.

06Which Pal Should You Awaken First?

Because Awakening is one-time and the gems take real farming to gather, treat your first crystal as a decision, not a reflex:

FAQ

How do you get Radiant Gems in Palworld?

Radiant Gems drop from Pals inside the World Tree region, in element types that match the Pal you defeated or captured. You need 50 gems of one matching element to craft a single Awakening Crystal.

What does Awakening do to a Pal's stats in Palworld?

Awakening gives a Pal a permanent boost to its core combat stats — community testing puts a fully-applied Awakening in roughly the 7–10% range. The exact gain is shown as a separate line on the Pal's status screen before you confirm.

Can you awaken the same Pal twice?

No. Awakening is a one-time, permanent upgrade per Pal — there's no way to stack a second Awakening Crystal on a Pal that's already been awakened.

What do you need to craft an Awakening Crystal?

50 Radiant Gems of one matching element and 10 World Tree Holy Water, crafted at the Ancient Workbench. The Ancient Workbench itself unlocks in the Technology tab at level 67 for 5 Technology Points, and needs 50 Soralite Ingots, 5 AI Cores, and 20 Bio Batteries to build.

Can you awaken mutated or Alpha Pals?

Yes. The Awakening system works on any Pal you can put in your party, including mutated, Lucky, Alpha, and starter Pals, as long as you use a crystal matching that Pal's element.
