Grounded 2 launched in Early Access on July 29, 2025 on PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X/S. A PS5 version launches August 11, 2026 alongside the Into the Abyss update. Yes. Grounded 2 supports optional online co-op for up to four players. Sessions are hosted by one player and friends can join or leave freely. The full game can also be played solo in single-player mode — co-op is entirely optional and no content is locked behind it. All four original characters from the first game return as playable protagonists.
No. Grounded 2 is a standalone sequel and you can enjoy it without having played the original. The story is set several years after the first game, with the same four teenagers shrunk once more in a new location — Brookhollow Park — involving renewed activity by the Ominent corporation. The game catches you up on relevant context. However, fans of the original will recognise many characters and mechanics.
Grounded 2 is set in Brookhollow Park in 1992, a few years after the events of the first game. The four protagonists — Willow, Hoops, Pete, and Max — are once again shrunk to the size of insects and must survive in a vast outdoor environment filled with bugs, plants, and other miniaturised hazards. The park setting introduces new biomes, new insect species, and a story tied to the Ominent corporation's continued experiments.
