WoW Forever Riding & Mounts What Is Actually Confirmed
In World of Warcraft: Forever ("WoW Forever") you get your first mount by learning the riding skill, not by buying one separately, and there is no flying. Blizzard has not published official gold prices or the exact riding level, so every number you see online is either beta-file data or a Classic-era carry-over. This guide separates what is confirmed from what is only a planning assumption.
01The Short Version
- Forever uses a Burning Crusade-style model: the up-front mount cost moves into riding training, and learning the skill grants you a mount.
- There are no flying mounts.
- Riding is expected around level 40 (60% ground speed) and level 60 (100% ground speed), but Blizzard has not confirmed the levels or the gold prices.
- The beta level cap is 30, so the level 40 and 60 tiers cannot be tested in the beta yet.
02How Riding Works in Forever
Per the recap of Blizzard's Forever Deep Dive panel, the game adopts the Burning Crusade approach to mounts: instead of paying for training and then a separate mount, the cost is shifted into the riding training and a mount is granted when you learn the skill.
Riding is learned from a trainer of your race. One guide describes it as a universal skill rather than a faction-locked one, but that detail comes from a single source, so treat it as unconfirmed.
Paladins are a special case: both Alliance and Forsaken Paladins have class mount quests, according to Warcraft Tavern; the page gives no level for them, so check in game.
03Levels and Gold: What We Know and Don't
This is the part most guides blur, so here is the honest split.
- Confirmed by Blizzard's panel recap: mount comes with the riding skill; no flying.
- Reported by MassivelyOP from the devs: riding training will cost more gold than before, and there is no free mount training at 40 this time.
- Reported second-hand from BlizzCon: training costs 100 or 1,000 gold depending on riding level. This is a single paraphrased claim, not a published price list.
- Beta-file data cited by guides: mounts listed at level 40 for 60% speed and level 60 for 100% speed. No verified training cost comes from those files.
- Warcraft Tavern publishes a table with Apprentice Riding at level 40 (100 gold training, 20 gold mount, 60% speed) and Journeyman Riding at level 60 (1,000 gold training, 200 gold mount, 100% speed). Treat it as the best current estimate, not an official price.
Plan for roughly 100 gold by level 40 and about 1,000 gold for epic riding at 60, but expect the final numbers to differ.
04Reputation Discounts and Other Details Reported by One Source
Warcraft Tavern also reports that Honored reputation with your home faction gives 10% off training and mounts, and that buying mounts of another race requires Exalted reputation with that race. Neither claim is corroborated elsewhere, so verify in game before you rely on them.
The same guide lists each race's mount (for example horse, ram, wolf, kodo, raptor) and the Skyborne mount, the Galestrider, trained and sold by Genn Fairweather on Zephras Isle. Check your own race's trainer in the starting area; it is typically close to your first town.
05Travel Besides Mounts
LFCarry reports three new boat routes in Forever: Stormwind Harbor to Auberdine; Menethil to Southshore and on to Auberdine; and the Steamwheedle dock in Tanaris to Powderfuse Port in the Riverglades. This is a single-source report from beta files and posts, so check in game.
06How to Save Gold Before You Hit the Riding Level
- The beta realms are temporary and beta progress does not carry over to launch (November 4, 2026), so do not farm gold in the beta for riding.
- At launch, treat the first 40 levels as a savings plan: sell loot and professions output instead of buying consumables.
- Pick up a gathering profession early; see the professions guide for what pays best.
- Keep the home-faction reputation reports above in mind, but do not count on a discount.
07Where Sources Disagree
- Riding levels: assumed 40 and 60 by several guides, announced by nobody.
- Prices: 100 and 1,000 gold appear in one Warcraft Tavern table and one paraphrased BlizzCon claim, and resemble Classic-era prices. TimeSaver explicitly says the exact cost has not been announced.
- Free first mount: one source says the first mount is free once you pay for training; Blizzard's recap says a mount is granted with the skill. These are the same idea, but the training cost itself is unconfirmed.
Cross-check the official Blizzard news and your own build before spending gold.
08FAQ
Short answers to the questions players ask most.
FAQ
At what level can you get a mount in WoW Forever?
Level 40 is the widely assumed level for the first riding tier at 60% speed, based on beta files and the Classic model. Blizzard has not officially confirmed it, and the beta cap of 30 means you cannot test it yet.
How much does riding cost in WoW Forever?
No official price list exists. Reported figures are 100 gold at level 40 and 1,000 gold at level 60, but these come from one guide table and one paraphrased BlizzCon claim and resemble Classic. Blizzard's devs said riding will cost more gold than before.
Do you have to buy a mount separately in WoW Forever?
No. Per Blizzard's Forever Deep Dive recap, the first mount is granted when you learn the riding skill, so the mount cost is folded into training. Further, faster or special mounts may still be bought or earned.
Is there flying in WoW Forever?
No. Blizzard's Deep Dive lists no flying mounts as a pillar of Forever.
Is there free mount training at level 40 in WoW Forever?
No. MassivelyOP reports the devs confirmed that there is no free mount training at 40 this time around, and that training costs more gold than it used to.
Can Paladins and Warlocks get mounts differently?
Paladins (including Forsaken Paladins) reportedly have class mount quests. A Warcraft Tavern guide says Warlocks also use class quests; this is single-source.
