WoW: Forever Professions Guide Camping, Recipes & Certification
Professions are one of the biggest departures from Classic in World of Warcraft: Forever (WoW Forever). Blizzard says the game adds over 600 new recipes, a camping system that makes crafting a group activity, a new supply-crate currency and an account-wide Professions column in the Legacy System. This guide separates what Blizzard has officially confirmed from what is only datamined from the beta client — the beta is capped at level 20, so most high-skill content cannot be tested yet.
01What Is Confirmed vs. Beta-Only
Two kinds of information circulate about WoW Forever professions, and mixing them up is how wrong build-your-character plans get made.
- Confirmed by Blizzard (Deep Dive panel recap): over 600 new recipes across professions and level ranges, camping objects, crafted food that can grant a small experience bonus and stat boosts, and the two new supply factions.
- Beta-client findings (from testers and datamining, e.g. recipe lists and the level-300 certifications): treat these as subject to change before the November 4 launch.
- Not testable yet: the beta launched with a level cap of 20, so anything that needs skill 140 or 300 has been read from data rather than played.
Where a number below comes only from the beta client, it is labelled as such. Cross-check the official Blizzard posts listed in Sources for your version.
02Slots and Skill Cap
According to beta documentation, characters keep the familiar structure: two primary professions plus three secondary skills — Cooking, First Aid and Fishing — with a skill cap of 300. Nothing about the slot count has been reported as changed from Classic.
The difference is not how many professions you can hold but how much each one does before the level cap. Reports from the beta note that many existing recipes were reworked so your profession choice has a real effect even at low levels.
03Camping: How Professions Become a Group Activity
Camping is the headline new system. Placing a campfire creates a campsite where players can rest and use benefits such as vendors, repairs, profession workspaces and one-hour buffs.
- A Basic Campfire holds up to three crafted objects. Each nearby player can add one, and the objects share a one-hour cooldown.
- Every profession has three campsite objects, learned at different skill levels. The first ones come from trainers or camping NPCs once you reach skill 20; more advanced blueprints drop from dungeon bosses.
- Each profession brings its own buff or utility to the camp. Blizzard's examples: a Blacksmith's Sharpening Wheel (attack power), a Tailor's Faction Banner (Spirit) and an Herbalist's Incense Candle (Intellect). Alchemists place an Alchemy Lab and Leatherworkers a Tanning Rack, which is required for more advanced Leatherworking recipes.
- Cooks upgrade the campfire itself, allowing five or ten objects at one camp — so a Cook in the group scales how many professions can contribute.
Practical takeaway: because each player contributes one object, a party with varied professions gets a fuller camp than a party that all picked the same craft. Exact buff values and the per-tier object names have not been confirmed by Blizzard, so plan by role, not by number.
04Recipes and Food
Blizzard's official figure is over 600 new recipes. The beta client contains more — testers counting entries report roughly 960 — which is a reminder that the official number is a floor, not a final count. Per-profession totals differ between sources, so they are omitted here.
- Crafted food is adjusted so that nearly all of it gives stat boosts, and some grants a small experience bonus — useful while leveling (see the leveling guide).
- Skill cap: 300, as in Classic.
05Merchant's Favor and Supply Crates
Two new factions — the Azeroth Commerce Authority (Alliance) and Durotar Supply and Logistics (Horde) — are described by Blizzard as a major source of new tradeskill activity. You turn in supply crates to earn Merchant's Favor, a currency; a performance bonus can sometimes increase how much Favor you get.
According to beta documentation, Favor is spent on recipes and on profession certifications (1,000 Favor each). The Horde side and what goes into a crate were not fully recorded at the time of writing.
06Certification at Skill 300
In the beta client, hitting skill 300 in one of the six crafting professions — Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking or Tailoring — lets you obtain a certification item that permanently unlocks an account-wide profession title. Gathering professions and secondary skills are not listed as having one.
Because the beta cap is level 20, nobody has yet reached skill 300 to confirm the exact steps. Expect details to be finalised near launch.
07Professions and the Legacy System
The Legacy System is account-wide progression that rewards challenges done on any character. It has a dedicated Professions column with perks such as Bountiful Harvest, Master Chef and Working Overtime (perk names as reported from the beta; check the in-game tree for current wording).
The upshot: maxing a profession on one character can benefit your other characters, so a dedicated crafting alt is more valuable than in Classic.
08Which Professions Should You Pick?
There is no verified tier list — the beta cannot test the endgame — but the confirmed mechanics suggest a sensible approach:
- Solo leveler: choose the gathering pair or a craft whose early recipes you will actually use; the reworked low-level recipes mean your pick matters from the start.
- Group players: coordinate. Each person can add one camp object, so diversity beats duplication.
- Long term: a crafting profession you plan to take to 300 gives an account-wide title and feeds Legacy perks.
- Everyone: take Cooking. Food buffs and experience bonuses help every class, and Cooks control camp size.
Re-check this section after launch on November 4 — profession value is exactly the kind of thing that shifts once the level cap rises.
FAQ
How many professions can you have in WoW Forever?
Beta documentation lists two primary professions and three secondary skills (Cooking, First Aid, Fishing), with a skill cap of 300 — the same layout as Classic. This has not been reported as changed.
How many new recipes does WoW Forever add?
Blizzard's official statement is over 600 new recipes across professions and level ranges. Beta-client datamining reports a higher figure (roughly 960), so the official number should be read as a minimum.
What is camping in WoW Forever?
Camping lets players place a campfire that forms a campsite with rest, vendors, repairs, profession workspaces and one-hour buffs. A Basic Campfire holds up to three crafted objects, one per nearby player, and every profession has three camp objects learned at different skill levels, starting at skill 20.
What is Merchant's Favor?
A new currency earned by turning in supply crates to the Azeroth Commerce Authority (Alliance) or Durotar Supply and Logistics (Horde). Per beta documentation it buys recipes and profession certifications.
What is profession certification in WoW Forever?
In the beta client, reaching skill 300 in Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking or Tailoring lets you obtain a certification that unlocks an account-wide profession title. It could not be fully tested because the beta is capped at level 20.
Can I test high-level professions in the WoW Forever beta?
Only partly. The beta launched with a level cap of 20 (planned to rise to 30), so camp objects unlocked at skill 20 are testable, while skill-140 and skill-300 content is known only from data.
