How Long Is Phantom Blade Zero to Beat?
Phantom Blade Zero's main story takes about 20–30 hours; director Soulframe Liang has said roughly 25–30 hours for an experienced player who doesn't get stuck. Completing everything is usually estimated at 50–60 hours, but that figure comes from a single guide site rather than from S-GAME, so treat it as a planning number.
Plan on roughly 20–30 hours for the main story, about 30–35 hours if you are a careful reviewer-style player who explores along the way, and around 50–60 hours for a completionist run. Those completion figures are third-party estimates, not a developer number.
01The Short Answer
The numbers below are the ones that survive a cross-check. Anything that only one outlet claims is marked as such.
- Main story: about 20–30 hours. This range has been repeated since the studio's 2025 interview reports and again at launch.
- Experienced player, no getting stuck: roughly 25–30 hours, according to the director in an October 2026 interview.
- Reviewer with some exploration: GamesRadar's launch reviewer reached the final boss after 30–35 hours and still had an entire region unexplored.
- Completionist: roughly 50–60 hours is the common estimate, but it is not an official figure.
- Second run (New Game Plus) and the other endings: add more on top; no source gives a reliable number.
02Where the Numbers Come From
Pre-release reports in January 2025, relayed from Chinese-language sources, said the main story would take around 20–30 hours with roughly 20 more hours of side content. That is where the 20–30 range and the "about 50 hours for everything" shorthand originate.
A pre-launch interview published by Wccftech gave a narrower, more useful number: director Soulframe Liang said an experienced player who doesn't get stuck should need about 25 to 30 hours, while adding that he can't predict how long any individual will take. That caveat matters in a game built around learning boss patterns.
Older articles quote a 30–40 hour main story. That figure dates from 2023 reports and has been superseded by the newer 20–30 hour statements, so ignore it when planning.
03What Changes Your Playtime
Two players can land far apart on the same save. The factors that move the clock most:
- Boss attempts. Bosses have two phases, and earlier reports say dying in the second phase restarts you at that phase rather than at the start of the fight. That softens repeats, but learning parry timings is still where most of the extra hours go. Our Parry & Ghoststep guide is the fastest way to cut that.
- Difficulty. Wayfarer, Pathbreaker, Hellwalker and 66 Days differ in how forgiving enemies are; see the difficulty settings guide. 66 Days limits your retries to 66, so it is a different kind of run, not just a longer one.
- Side content. Side quests are not just padding: the number you complete shapes which of the eight endings you get (see all endings). GamesRadar's reviewer, who pressed on to the final boss with a region still unexplored, ended on the Bad Ending.
- Exploration. The regions are connected and the game has a large arsenal (launch reviews cite about 30 collectible primary weapons, plus secondary Phantom Edges; you carry two of each at once), so hunting gear adds time.
04Completionist and Second Runs
Beebom estimates 35–40 hours for the story with mild exploration and 50–60 hours for a completionist run. No developer-published completion time exists, so use that as a rough ceiling rather than a promise.
The game has eight endings and a New Game Plus mode, both confirmed in coverage of the game. In the same interview, the director said S-GAME avoided splitting content between difficulties and New Game Plus, and that at least the last 10 weapons, found too late to use much on a first run, open up a new experience in NG+ or 66 Days mode. So a second run is for endings and a different challenge, not for locked story content.
On trophies, Liang said most players should be able to get the Platinum in one run on any difficulty. Treat that as the studio's stated expectation; check the trophy list on your own platform before assuming nothing is missable.
05Is It Worth the Price for the Length?
A 20–30 hour campaign puts Phantom Blade Zero at the shorter end of the big action RPGs, and the pitch is density rather than length: tightly tuned combat, boss fights and a replay loop built around endings. If you want a 100-hour open world, this is not that; if you want a focused action game you can finish in a couple of weeks of evenings, it fits.
Planning tip: a 25-hour story at two hours a night is around two weeks. Budget more if you pick Hellwalker, where the team has changed enemy AI and behavior.

Short answers to the playtime questions players ask most.
FAQ
How long is the Phantom Blade Zero main story?
About 20–30 hours. Director Soulframe Liang said an experienced player who doesn't get stuck should need roughly 25–30 hours, though he noted he can't predict individual times.
How long does it take to 100% Phantom Blade Zero?
Estimates put a completionist run at roughly 50–60 hours. This is a third-party estimate, not an official S-GAME number.
Is the Phantom Blade Zero story 30–40 hours?
That figure comes from 2023 reports and has been replaced by the newer 20–30 hour statements. One launch reviewer did reach the final boss after 30–35 hours, but with exploration and retries along the way.
Does Phantom Blade Zero have New Game Plus?
Yes. The director said S-GAME avoided locking content behind NG+ or higher difficulties; its draw is replaying early bosses with late-game weapons, at least the last 10 of which you find too late to use much the first time.
Can you get the Platinum in one playthrough?
The director said most players should be able to earn the Platinum in one run, on any difficulty. That is the studio's expectation, so verify against the trophy list on your platform.
How many endings does Phantom Blade Zero have?
Eight, depending largely on side quest completion. See the all endings guide for what is and isn't confirmed about triggering them.
