Elden Ring Nightreign Nightlord Boss Guide All 8 Bosses

Updated August 202611 min readBy the HowToPlayHub team

Nightlords are the final bosses of each expedition in Elden Ring Nightreign — the co-op roguelike spin-off from FromSoftware and Bandai Namco released May 30, 2025. Each three-day expedition culminates in a Nightlord encounter on Day 3, with the specific boss determined by the expedition type chosen at the start of the run. The base game features eight Nightlords, and the Forsaken Hollows DLC adds two more. This guide covers all eight base-game Nightlords: the expedition that leads to them, their elemental weaknesses, key attack patterns to watch for, and phase-two survival priorities. Boss mechanics can change with patches — cross-check the Bandai Namco patch notes for your current version.

01How Nightlord Fights Work

Nightlord fights are multi-phase encounters that begin immediately after a Day 3 cutscene. Each fight follows a structure:

Night's Tide does not shrink during the Nightlord arena — the fight space is fixed. You should not need to track the boundary once the boss fight begins.

02Gladius, Beast of Night — Tricephalos Expedition

Gladius is a three-headed beast and the first Nightlord most players encounter, tied to the Tricephalos expedition. It serves as an introduction to Nightlord pacing and telegraph-based attacks.

03Adel, Baron of Night — Gaping Jaw Expedition

Adel is highly resistant to most damage types and requires either Poison status accumulation or persistent elemental pressure to kill efficiently. New players who stumble into this expedition with an unprepared build will find the fight frustratingly long.

04Gnoster, Wisdom of Night — Sentient Pest Expedition

Gnoster is a dual-creature boss — two separate enemies sharing a single health pool fight simultaneously throughout the encounter: Gnoster itself (a flying moth) and Faurtis Stoneshield (a scorpion-like creature). They do not take turns; both are active from the start.

05Maris, Fathom of Night — Augur Expedition

Maris is considered one of the more frustrating Nightlords for melee-focused Nightfarers because the boss spends significant time airborne and at range, making consistent damage application difficult.

06Libra, Creature of Night — Equilibrious Beast Expedition

Libra is a defensive-oriented Nightlord with notable resistance to Magic damage. Holy and Fire damage are the primary elemental options; Madness status buildup causes an additional burst of frenzy damage when the bar fills.

07Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow — Darkdrift Knight Expedition

Fulghor is widely considered the most mechanically demanding Nightlord in the base game. The fight is characterised by extremely fast startup frames on most attacks and a boss that moves continuously around the arena striking with multiple swords.

08Caligo, Miasma of Night — Fissure in the Fog Expedition

Caligo is a status-resistant fog entity. Most status effects (Bleed, Scarlet Rot, Madness, Poison) accumulate very slowly or not at all, making direct elemental damage the primary offensive strategy.

09Heolstor, the Nightlord — Night Aspect Expedition

Heolstor is the true final boss of Elden Ring Nightreign and the most complete combat challenge in the base game. The fight has two phases with shifting elemental resistances and a moveset that demands knowledge of multiple attack types.

In trio play, Duchess's Finale (obscures the team from tracking) is particularly effective at the phase-two transition — it provides a safe window for the whole team to apply damage without Heolstor targeting anyone.

FAQ

How many Nightlords are in Elden Ring Nightreign?

The base game features eight Nightlords: Gladius (Beast of Night), Adel (Baron of Night), Gnoster (Wisdom of Night), Maris (Fathom of Night), Libra (Creature of Night), Fulghor (Champion of Nightglow), Caligo (Miasma of Night), and Heolstor (the Nightlord — the true final boss). The Forsaken Hollows DLC adds two additional Nightlords: Traitorous Straghess and Weapon-Bequeathed Harmonia. The Nightlord you face on Day 3 depends on the expedition type chosen at the start of the run.

What is the hardest Nightlord in Elden Ring Nightreign?

Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow, is generally considered the hardest base-game Nightlord due to extremely fast attack startup frames and continuous arena movement. The multi-sword flurry attack in particular punishes players who are still learning the dodge timing. Heolstor (the final boss) is more complex but more telegraphed, making Fulghor more brutally difficult for players in the mid-game. Maris is also cited as frustrating for melee-focused Nightfarers due to extensive airborne phases.

What is the easiest Nightlord to start with in Elden Ring Nightreign?

Gladius, Beast of Night (Tricephalos expedition) is generally the most approachable starting Nightlord. Its attacks are wide-swinging but clearly telegraphed, and the Holy weakness is easy to equip for. Most new players encounter Gladius first and use it to learn the general structure of Nightlord fights before moving to more complex encounters.

How do I unlock Heolstor in Elden Ring Nightreign?

Heolstor and the Night Aspect expedition become accessible after completing a specified number of other Nightlord expeditions in the base game. The exact unlock threshold may have been adjusted by patches — check the Fextralife Nightreign wiki or your in-game expedition unlock records for current requirements. This is the intended final challenge of the base-game progression.

Do Nightlords have different HP in solo mode?

Yes. In solo mode all Nightlords have their HP reduced to approximately one-third of their trio-mode values. The attack patterns, phase thresholds, and phase-two movesets are identical regardless of player count. In duo mode (two players), Nightlord HP is roughly halved compared to trio. The HP reduction in solo means individual phases end faster and the fight duration is substantially shorter, but each attack remains equally dangerous.

Can status effects like Bleed work on Nightlords?

Yes, but resistance varies widely by Nightlord. Adel (Baron of Night) is specifically weak to Poison and takes a significant damage bonus once Poisoned. Libra (Creature of Night) is weak to Madness. Caligo (Miasma of Night) is broadly resistant to all status effects — Bleed, Scarlet Rot, and Poison all accumulate much more slowly than on other Nightlords. As a general rule, check each Nightlord's specific weakness before relying on a status-effect-heavy build.
