Silksong 100% Completion Guide & Checklist
Getting to 100% in Hollow Knight: Silksong is not just about defeating every boss — it is about collecting every Tool, ability, Crest, Mask Shard, Silk Spool, Needle Upgrade, and upgrade in Pharloom, then heading into Act 3 for the final locked 7%. This guide breaks down every category that counts, explains what you can safely skip without hurting your percentage, gives a practical region-by-region order to minimise backtracking, and points to the site's deep-dive guides for each major category.
100% completion in Silksong tracks ten categories: Tools (51%), Silk Spools (9%), Upgrades (8%), Crests (6%), Silk Skills (6%), Abilities (7%), Mask Shards (5%), Needle Upgrades (4%), Silk Hearts (3%), and Everbloom (1%). Bosses, maps, and Wishes do not count directly — but beating bosses unlocks the items that do. The maximum achievable before Act 3 is 93%; the final 7% is locked in the Abyss and post-Citadel areas. Three achievements reward reaching 100%: the standard Completion (50G), Speed Completion under 30 hours (70G), and Steel Heart in Steel Soul mode (70G).
01What Counts Toward Your Completion %
The completion screen in Silksong tracks ten distinct categories. Bosses, map purchases, Wishes, and Bellways do not count directly — though many bosses guard the collectibles that do. Here is the full breakdown:
- Tools (51%) — by far the largest slice. Every obtainable Tool (Red, Blue, and Yellow) counts as 1% each. This is where most of your run is decided.
- Silk Spools (9%) — each complete Silk Spool upgrade (requiring two Spool Fragments) adds 1%. Eighteen Spool Fragments across Pharloom unlock nine upgrades.
- Upgrades (8%) — four levels of Crafting Kit and four levels of Tool Pouch, one percent each. These come from a specific shopkeeper and as quest/minigame rewards.
- Crests (6%) — six Crests in total (Reaper, Wanderer, Beast, Witch, Architect, Shaman), each worth 1%.
- Silk Skills (6%) — the six active Silk attacks (Silkspear, Thread Storm, Cross Stitch, Sharpdart, Rune Rage, Pale Nails), 1% each.
- Abilities (7%) — seven platforming and movement abilities including Needolin, Swift Step, Cling Grip, Clawline, Silk Soar, Sylphsong, and Needle Strike. Several are Act 3 items.
- Mask Shards (5%) — twenty Mask Shards scattered across the world; every four complete one Mask and add 1%, for five total.
- Needle Upgrades (4%) — four total: Sharpened Needle, Shining Needle, Hivesteel Needle, and Pale Steel Needle (the last is Act 3 content).
- Silk Hearts (3%) — three Heart upgrades obtained via boss progression, 1% each.
- Everbloom (1%) — a unique item obtained by completing the Red Memory questline.
That adds to exactly 100%, and you can verify progress once you have placed the Farsight in your Bellhome — without it the completion counter is hidden. Farsight is an Act 3 pickup from a guarded chamber in the Abyss, which is also why the counter is not visible on a pure Act 2 run.
Note: figures above are for the base game (v1.0.29926). The Sea of Sorrow expansion (free DLC, coming 2026, not yet released) adds new Tools, areas, and other collectibles not reflected here. Cross-check with the official Hollow Knight wiki for the full list if you have the expansion installed.
02The Tools: Your 51% Priority
Tools are the single biggest lever in completion — over half the percentage comes from here. Pharloom has three Tool colours:
- Red Tools (~19) — active attack items with limited charges; refilled by Shell Shards at a Bench.
- Blue Tools (~22) — passive effects that trigger during combat or exploration; no charge cost.
- Yellow Tools (~10) — utility or environmental items with varied trigger conditions.
Key rules to know:
- Only the base version of each Tool counts — upgraded variants do not add a second percentage point.
- One Tool (Curveclaw) is involved in a trade. If you give it away, it no longer counts — but collecting its replacement (Curvesickle) restores the point. Do not finish a run without resolving this trade.
- Several Tools are gated behind specific bosses, Wish quests, or NPC questlines — check the site's Tools & Crests guide for the full source list of each slot.
- Tools bought from vendors require Rosaries — keep a running Rosary income from selling duplicates and looting new areas.
03Mask Shards, Silk Spools, and Other Collectibles
The remaining 49% comes from a mix of collectibles that are found by exploring, defeating specific bosses, completing Wishes, and buying from merchants:
- Mask Shards are hidden in walls, locked behind bosses, and rewarded by certain Wishes. Track four shards per Mask. Missing even one shard will cost you 1% — prioritise shard locations in every area before you leave.
- Spool Fragments work the same way: two per upgrade, scattered in lore-heavy areas and behind optional challenges. Silk Spools also expand your heal budget, so collecting them has direct gameplay value beyond the percentage.
- Crafting Kit and Tool Pouch upgrades are purchased sequentially from a shopkeeper (Far Fields region) and earned as minigame and quest rewards. You need all four levels of both — do not skip the shopkeeper on your way through that zone.
- Crests are largely story-gated, with a few earned through specific Wish questlines. You receive most by finishing major Act 1 and 2 milestones.
- Silk Skills are taught by trainers scattered in Pharloom or unlocked via story events. They are hard to miss during natural progression, but Pale Nails is Act 3 exclusive.
- Silk Hearts come from boss defeat rewards — clear the marked fights on the site's All Bosses guide and you will pick them up naturally.
- Everbloom requires fully completing the Red Memory questline, a multi-step NPC quest. Start it early and track its stages as you unlock new areas.
04What Does NOT Count
Save yourself the confusion — these items are not tracked in the completion percentage:
- Boss defeats — winning a fight adds nothing to the counter. What bosses give (Tools, Silk Hearts, Crests) is what matters. Mandatory bosses must be defeated to progress; optional ones are only worth it if they drop something on the list.
- Map purchases — the 27 region maps are useful for navigation but are not completion items.
- Wishes — the 54 side quests do not individually count, but any Wish that rewards a Tool, Mask Shard, Spool Fragment, or Crest is essential. Complete those; skip pure story-only Wishes if you are in a hurry.
- Bellways and Ventrica Stations — fast-travel nodes are not tracked.
- Threefold Melody pieces — a collectible system separate from the completion percentage.
- Regarding Lost Fleas: some community sources count all 30 Fleas as a completion requirement; the official wiki does not list them as a separate percentage category. What is confirmed is that finding Lost Fleas is tied to Act 3 access and the Egg of Flealia Tool. Collect them for progress value regardless.
05Act 3: The Final 7%
The single most important thing to know for 100% runs: a maximum of 93% is reachable before entering Act 3. The last 7% is locked behind Act 3 content in the Abyss and beyond.
Items exclusively tied to Act 3:
- Pale Steel Needle — the fourth and final Needle Upgrade, 1%.
- Pale Nails — the sixth Silk Skill, 1%.
- Silk Soar and Sylphsong — two of the seven counted Abilities, each 1%.
- Shaman Crest — one of the six Crests, 1%.
- Needle Strike and a Mask Shard upgrade — the remaining 2%.
See the site's All Endings & Act 3 guide for how to unlock Act 3 (it requires a specific pre-Act-2-ending check). If you finish Act 2 without the unlock condition met, you cannot access Act 3 in that save file without starting a new game. Set this up early.
Also remember: the Farsight item (from Act 3's Abyss) is needed to display your completion percentage in the menu. Do not panic if the tracker seems absent mid-run — it only activates once Farsight is placed in your Bellhome.
06Practical Completion Order
The most efficient approach is region-by-region, fully clearing each zone before moving on, rather than hunting by category. This minimises backtracking and ensures you do not forget a tucked-away Mask Shard or Tool.
A recommended order:
- Play Act 1 and Act 2 normally, tracking every area you visit. Pick up Tools, Mask Shards, Spool Fragments, and Crafting/Pouch upgrades as you find them. Do not rush past optional side rooms.
- Prioritise the Tool Pouch and Crafting Kit shopkeeper in Far Fields early. The level 1 and 2 upgrades are cheap and compound your overall Tool capacity, making the rest of the run smoother.
- Before leaving each region, clear the bestiary entries there. Killing new enemy types gives journal completion (and can be a prerequisite for certain Wishes). You do not have to obsess over it, but clearing a zone saves a return trip.
- Track the Red Memory questline from first discovery. Everbloom (the 1% unique item) requires completing it, and it has stages spread across multiple regions — do not leave it for the end.
- Before the Act 2 final boss, ensure you have the Act 3 unlock condition met. Check the All Endings guide for the exact steps. Missing this means restarting.
- Enter Act 3 to reach 100%. Clear the Abyss and post-Citadel areas for the remaining 7%. Grab Farsight early in the Act 3 sequence so the completion counter activates.
- Mop-up any missed items using the Farsight completion tracker plus an interactive community checklist. Silk Soar and Sylphsong (Act 3 Abilities) are easy to spot; double-check Tool slots for the Curveclaw/Curvesickle trade.
Avoid: saving Wishes in bulk for the end. The ones that reward Tools or Mask Shards are gated behind NPC questlines that must be seeded early — ignore them and they will not be available when you come back.
07Achievements for 100% Completion
Three achievements / trophies are tied to reaching 100%:
- Completion (50G / Bronze-equivalent) — "Achieve 100% game completion and finish the game." The baseline trophy for full completionists.
- Speed Completion (70G / Silver-equivalent) — "Achieve 100% game completion and finish the game in under 30 hours." The 30-hour benchmark is tight but achievable with good routing. It covers in-game time, so efficient travel via Bellways and skipping cutscenes matters.
- Steel Heart (70G / Silver-equivalent) — "Achieve 100% completion in Steel Soul mode." Steel Soul is Silksong's permadeath mode: one death ends the run. For the Steel Heart, you need a flawless 100% run. See the site's Steel Soul guide for rules and exceptions before attempting it.
All three achievements require finishing an ending — a 100% save file that never reaches a credits screen does not unlock them. Plan your completion run so you hit 100% and then finish Act 3 in the same file.
FAQ
What counts toward 100% completion in Silksong?
Ten categories count: Tools (51%), Silk Spools (9%), Crafting Kit and Tool Pouch Upgrades (8%), Crests (6%), Silk Skills (6%), Abilities (7%), Mask Shards (5%), Needle Upgrades (4%), Silk Hearts (3%), and the Everbloom item (1%). Boss defeats, map purchases, Bellways, and Wishes by themselves do not count — but many bosses and Wishes reward the items that do.
What is the maximum completion before Act 3 in Silksong?
93% is the maximum achievable before entering Act 3. The final 7% consists of items exclusive to Act 3 content in the Abyss and beyond: Pale Steel Needle, Pale Nails, Silk Soar, Sylphsong, Shaman Crest, Needle Strike, and a Mask Shard upgrade. To reach 100% you must unlock and complete Act 3 in that same save file.
Is there an achievement for 100% completion in Silksong?
There are three. 'Completion' rewards reaching 100% and finishing the game. 'Speed Completion' rewards doing it in under 30 hours. 'Steel Heart' requires 100% in Steel Soul (permadeath) mode. All three need you to actually reach an ending — a 100% save that has not seen credits does not trigger them.
Do boss defeats count toward completion percentage in Silksong?
No — defeating a boss does not add percentage by itself. However, many bosses drop Tools, Silk Hearts, or Crests that count, and mandatory bosses block your path to new areas. Think of bosses as gates to the collectibles that matter, not as completion items in their own right.
How long does 100% completion take in Silksong?
The 30-hour Speed Completion achievement signals the approximate target for an optimised 100% run. A relaxed first-time completionist run runs closer to 40–55 hours depending on how much time you spend on bosses and exploration. See the site's how-long-to-beat guide for a full time breakdown.
How do you view your completion percentage in Silksong?
You need the Farsight item, which is obtained from a guarded chamber in the Abyss during Act 3. Place it in your Bellhome and the completion tracker becomes visible in the menu. Before Act 3, the counter is intentionally hidden — you are not bugged or on a wrong path if you cannot see it yet.
