Best Base Locations in Palworld

Where you plant your Palbox shapes your entire run. A great location feeds itself — ore for ingots, coal for refined metal, Paldium for spheres, and flat ground so your Pals never get stuck on a slope. This guide ranks the strongest base sites for each purpose, from your first camp to a dedicated late-game mining operation.

01What Makes a Base Location Good

Before chasing coordinates, understand the criteria. A site that scores well on all five points below will outperform a prettier spot that misses two of them:

• Flat ground — the single biggest factor. Pals path in straight lines and cannot jump to upper levels; sloped terrain leaves them idle. Flat ground beats every other perk.
• Ore nodes inside the radius — ore is the perpetual bottleneck for tools, weapons, and structures. Aim for two or more deposits.
• Coal nearby — needed for Refined Ingots in the mid-game; a base with coal saves long supply runs.
• Paldium Fragments — blue nodes near water keep your sphere supply self-sufficient.
• Defensible, central position — close to a fast-travel statue, away from constant Alpha aggro.

You do not need one base to have everything. Most players run a flat starter base for crafting and a separate resource base parked directly on an ore or coal cluster.

02Best Starter Base Location

Your first base should prioritise flat ground and balanced early resources over raw ore density — you will relocate heavy mining to a second base later.

The plateau near the starting region (Plateau of Beginnings) is the standard recommendation: large flat areas, nearby trees, stone, and a few ore nodes, plus Paldium along the nearby water. It is close to the first fast-travel point and far enough from high-level Pals to build in peace.

• Plenty of flat space for a full production layout without terraforming.
• Trees, stone, and ore in walking distance for an early Pal supply chain.
• Paldium Fragments near the water for a steady sphere supply.
• Central enough to reach early dungeons and the first Tower without long travel.

Build your Palbox, Workbench, a couple of furnaces, a Berry Plantation, and a Hot Spring here, then expand outward as you unlock more technology.

03Best Ore and Mining Base Locations

Once you need ingots in bulk, dedicate a base to ore. The goal is to drop a Palbox so several ore nodes fall inside the radius, then staff it with Mining Pals (Digtoise, Anubis) and let it run while you play elsewhere.

• Ore-dense ridges near the central grasslands — several well-known clusters put 4–6 ore nodes in one Palbox radius on workable ground. A focused mining base here keeps your ingot stockpile permanently topped up.
• Mount Obsidian (volcanic southwest) — the richest region for ore and coal together, plus sulfur for gunpowder. The trade-off is heat and high-level Pals, so build it once you have Heat-Resistant gear.
• Astral Mountains (frozen north) — dense ore and coal with fewer aggressive Pals than the volcano, but you will need Cold-Resistant armor.

Park a Mining Pal with Lv. 3–4 suitability plus a couple of Transporting Pals here, add chests and furnaces, and this base becomes a self-sustaining ingot factory.

04Best Coal and Refined-Metal Base

Coal gates the entire mid-to-late game — Refined Ingots, firearms, and advanced gear all require it. A base sitting on a coal cluster removes one of the most tedious supply runs in Palworld.

The clearest coal-rich regions are the Desiccated Desert (north) and parts of Mount Obsidian. The desert has large surface coal deposits on relatively open ground, though it runs hot at night and cold by day, so bring temperature-resistant gear and a Hot Spring to keep Pals stable.

• Place the Palbox so multiple coal nodes sit inside the radius.
• Assign Mining Pals and keep furnaces running on-site to make Refined Ingots where the coal is.
• Add a fast-travel run to your crafting base so finished ingots move easily.
• Account for desert temperature swings with appropriate Pal Gear and a Hot Spring.

05Common Base-Placement Mistakes

Even a resource-rich location fails if you ignore the fundamentals:

• Building on a slope — the number-one mistake. Pals get stuck and stop working. Lay Foundations to flatten, or pick flatter ground.
• Placing the Palbox too close to a cliff edge — half your build radius becomes unusable air.
• Ignoring resource respawn — mined nodes regenerate over time, so a node-rich base keeps producing; a node-poor base runs dry.
• Forgetting defense — raids scale with base level; an exposed base on open ground takes heavy structural damage.
• Spreading stations too far apart — long Pal travel paths drain SAN and slow everything down.

Remember the Palbox cannot be relocated without losing that base's progress — scout properly before committing, and use a second or third base slot rather than tearing down your first.

Palworld 1.0 (July 2026) added the Sunreach floating archipelago and World Tree endgame zones. Both offer high-tier ore unique to their regions (Soralite in Sunreach, Paloxite at the World Tree) and are suited to a dedicated late-game mining base once you reach the level cap of 80 — treat them the same way as the volcanic and frozen zones: a specialist base parked on the resource cluster, staffed with your best Mining Pals.
