Marvel's Wolverine is rated M (Mature 17+) by the Entertainment Software Rating Board. The ESRB's public listing carries six content descriptors: Blood and Gore, Drug Reference, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, Strong Language, and In-Game Purchases.

This is a notably harder rating than either of Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man games, both of which carry a T for Teen rating. Parents or players coming to Marvel's Wolverine expecting a Spider-Man-style experience should treat the M rating as a genuine content difference, not just a marketing label — the dismemberment and gore are confirmed as a consistent presence throughout combat, not an occasional cutscene moment.

05Softening the Content: What You Can Turn Off

Insomniac confirmed a set of independent violence toggles as part of the game's accessibility suite, which let players reduce the visual intensity of the content the ESRB describes without changing the core combat:
