How Long Is Halo: Campaign Evolved? Full Length Guide

Updated July 20265 min readBy the HowToPlayHub team

With Halo: Campaign Evolved launching July 28, 2026, the most common pre-order question is simple: how many hours is this actually worth $70 for? Here's what's confirmed about the campaign's length, including the three new prequel missions that aren't part of the original Combat Evolved.

01Main Campaign: 8-12 Hours

A single, unhurried playthrough of the main campaign runs roughly 8 to 12 hours, in line with the original Halo: Combat Evolved's pacing — this is a faithful remake/remaster of that campaign's mission structure, not an expanded reimagining of the story itself.

That range covers a normal difficulty playthrough without deliberately hunting for every Skull or collectible. Playing on a harder difficulty, taking more time to explore each level, or replaying encounters will push you toward the higher end of that range.

02Completionist Time: 15-20 Hours

Going for full completion — finding all the hidden Skulls, chasing achievements, and generally engaging with every optional layer the campaign offers — brings total time up to roughly 15 to 20 hours. See the Skulls & Campaign Remix Guide for the full list of all 42 Skulls and where the 39 physical pickups are hidden across the campaign's missions.

That completionist range doesn't include repeated runs through Campaign Remix mode (the Skull-randomized replay mode you unlock after finding just two Skulls) — since Remix is designed for ongoing replayability rather than a one-time completion target, it can add effectively unlimited extra playtime on top of the numbers above.

03Operation: Meteorite: Three New Prequel Missions

Unlike the rest of the campaign, Operation: Meteorite is genuinely new content — three prequel missions that weren't part of the original Combat Evolved, confirmed at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026. These add roughly 1.5 to 2 extra hours on top of the main campaign's runtime.

Factoring in Operation: Meteorite, a completionist run that also finds Skulls hidden across those three new missions (nine of the campaign's 39 physical Skull pickups are spread across them) pushes total playtime toward the upper end of the 15-20 hour completionist range, or somewhat beyond it.

04Multiplayer Isn't a Factor Here

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a campaign-only release — there's no separate PvP multiplayer mode bundled with it the way past mainline Halo games have shipped one. That means the hour estimates above represent essentially the entire game's content, rather than just one portion of a larger multiplayer-plus-campaign package. If you're deciding whether the price is worth it, the campaign length numbers are the whole picture, not a fraction of it.

05FAQ

FAQ

How long is the Halo: Campaign Evolved main campaign?

Roughly 8 to 12 hours for a normal playthrough, matching the pacing of the original Halo: Combat Evolved that this remake is built on.

How long does 100% completion take in Halo: Campaign Evolved?

Roughly 15 to 20 hours, including hunting down all 42 Skulls and chasing achievements. This doesn't count extra replays through Campaign Remix mode, which is designed for ongoing replayability rather than a one-time completion goal.

How much extra content do the Operation: Meteorite missions add?

About 1.5 to 2 extra hours. These three missions are genuinely new prequel content, not part of the original Combat Evolved campaign, and were confirmed at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026.

Does Halo: Campaign Evolved have multiplayer?

No — it's a campaign-only release with no separate PvP multiplayer mode included. The campaign length estimates represent the full scope of the game's content.
