Hades 2 Best Weapon Aspects All 24 Ranked Across Every Nocturnal Arm
Every Nocturnal Arm in Hades 2 comes with four Aspects — alternate forms that fundamentally change how the weapon's Attack, Special, and Omega moves function. Some Aspects are marginal upgrades over the default; others are complete mechanical overhauls that redefine the weapon's identity. With 24 Aspects spread across six weapons, knowing which to prioritize can shorten the path from early clears to high-Fear runs significantly. This guide ranks all 24, explains the best Aspect for each weapon, and covers which boon gods make each top pick shine. If you want to compare the six base weapons first, see the Hades 2 Best Weapons guide. Rankings are based on v1.0 (September 2025); always cross-check with the latest official patch notes for any balance shifts since.
01How Aspects Work
Each of the six Nocturnal Arms has one default Aspect — always the Aspect of Melinoë — available from the moment the weapon is unlocked. Three additional Aspects per weapon are crafted at the Training Grounds using specific reagents, once the one-time prerequisite Incantation has been completed ("Aspects of Night and Darkness": 5 Bronze and 1 Nightshade at the Cauldron, requiring each initial weapon to be wielded at least once).
One of the three craftable Aspects per weapon is a hidden Aspect. Hidden Aspects require both maxing an earlier Aspect on the same weapon to full rank and speaking with a specific NPC before they appear as craftable. Because the hidden Aspects are gated, this guide covers them as long-term unlocks rather than immediate priorities.
Aspects can be upgraded at the Training Grounds using Ambrosia and Crystals. Each rank amplifies the Aspect's numerical effects — a half-ranked Aspect is noticeably weaker than a fully maxed one. All rankings in this guide assume comparable investment across Aspects.
02S Tier: Medea (Argent Skull) and Circe (Witch's Staff)
Two Aspects stand above the rest at v1.0 — they are run-defining regardless of boon pool and the benchmarks against which other Aspects are measured.
Aspect of Medea (Argent Skull) — The highest-damage-output Aspect in the game. When active, the thrown skull no longer bounces across the ground for retrieval; it stays within close range of Melinoë. After landing a Special, the skull detonates for massive area damage — or detonates automatically after three seconds if no Special lands. At max rank, both Attacks and Specials receive a +135% damage bonus, confirmed across multiple sources including the Fextralife wiki. The combination of the large damage multiplier and on-command area detonation makes Medea Skull the top pick for experienced players. The catch is the same as the base Argent Skull: the ammo economy still requires management, though Medea simplifies the retrieval loop by anchoring the skull nearby rather than sending you chasing it across the room.
Aspect of Circe (Witch's Staff) — Adds a psychic familiar that casts alongside Melinoë, effectively doubling the Staff's Omega Cast output. The Circe Aspect rewards building heavily into Omega Cast boons — the familiar mirrors each cast, turning every Omega Attack into a dual-cast output. The result is a safe, ranged, cast-heavy playstyle that never requires engaging enemies at close range. Circe is the strongest Aspect for cast-focused builds and the most forgiving S-tier option for players who prefer distance.
- Medea (Skull) best boon gods: Apollo (Daze amplifies detonation windows and reward timing), Hephaestus (Vent stacks on the planted skull add sustained damage between explosions), Aphrodite (percentage multipliers scale dramatically on the already-large base damage number)
- Circe (Staff) best boon gods: Apollo (restores Magick from Cast hits via Lucid Gain, removing Omega resource constraints on the dual-cast loop), Hephaestus (turns each Cast detonation into an area burst), Zeus (Blitz stacks build rapidly from repeated dual-cast hits)
03Witch's Staff — Best Aspect: Circe
The Witch's Staff has the most versatile Aspect lineup of any weapon — all four Aspects have viable applications, making the Staff the best weapon for experimenting before committing Ambrosia to a specific playstyle.
- Aspect of Melinoë (default): Increases maximum Magick and boosts Special power. A solid all-rounder that works with nearly every boon combination. Best early-game pick before you have the resources to unlock and rank up Circe.
- Aspect of Circe (S tier — recommended): See above. Priority unlock for Staff players once the Incantation prerequisite is complete. Requires 5 Lotus and 5 Marble. Unlock this before investing in any other Staff Aspect.
- Aspect of Momus: Each Omega Move fires up to three times in rapid succession before resetting. At max rank the burst output is strong, but a delay between bursts requires deliberate timing — firing too early or too late wastes the multiplied output. Strong ceiling for players comfortable with the rhythm, narrower floor than Circe. Requires 1 Pearl and 2 Limestone.
- Aspect of Anubis (hidden — B tier): Grants the Ankh Scepter: Attacks place a damaging field, the Special pulls nearby enemies into that field, and defeating foes summons shade minions that continue fighting alongside Melinoë. Omega moves also gain speed and damage bonuses at higher ranks. A genuinely strong Aspect for players who enjoy minion-assisted builds, but locked behind full progression — unlock Circe first. Unlocked by maxing one earlier Staff Aspect and speaking with Circe.
Unlock priority for Staff: Circe first, Momus if you enjoy the burst-fire pattern, Anubis last as the hidden Aspect.
04Sister Blades — Best Aspect: Melinoë (Default)
The Sister Blades are unusual in that the default Aspect of Melinoë is the strongest pick for the weapon. It provides a massive backstab damage multiplier that synergizes directly with the Blades' core loop — Attack at range, Special to dash behind the target and trigger the backstab. The alternative Aspects each trade that clean synergy for niche mechanics that deliver less consistent damage.
- Aspect of Melinoë (default — A tier, recommended): Dramatically amplifies backstab damage on Attacks and Specials that land from behind. Because the Sister Blades' Special automatically dashes Melinoë behind the target, nearly every Special already triggers the full backstab bonus without any extra positioning. This is the cleanest and most accessible damage amplifier in the Blades' lineup.
- Aspect of Pan (C tier): Specials home automatically onto nearby foes and fire additional shots with extended channeling. The homing removes the positioning skill expression that makes the backstab mechanic satisfying and does not deliver the raw damage ceiling of the default Aspect. Requires 2 Shaderoot and 2 Wool.
- Aspect of Artemis (C tier): Grants increased Omega Attack speed and a parry-riposte on Omega Attack channels. The parry window is tight — failed parries reduce overall damage output rather than enhancing it. High skill-expression, low practical return for most players. Requires 15 Silver and 1 Glassrock.
- Aspect of Morrigan (hidden — B tier): Replaces the Blades with Crow Cutters capable of the Blood Triad ritual — a high-damage combo launched by chaining Special and Omega Attack in sequence. Blood Triad's burst ceiling is very high for players who commit to the specific ritual sequence, but the mechanic demands full weapon-specific investment. Unlocked by maxing one earlier Blades Aspect and speaking with Artemis.
Unlock priority for Sister Blades: The default Melinoë Aspect is strong enough to carry runs to high-Fear difficulty without unlocking alternatives. If you want a different pattern, Morrigan's Blood Triad burst is the only Blades Aspect that rivals the default's efficiency — skip Pan and Artemis.
05Umbral Flames — Best Aspect: Moros
The Umbral Flames' default Aspect (a minor critical chance bonus) is the weakest of the four — all three unlockable Aspects are meaningful upgrades. Moros is the strongest overall, transforming the Flames from a mid-range skirmisher into an explosive setup-and-detonate weapon.
- Aspect of Melinoë (default — C tier): Adds a small chance for Attacks and Specials to deal critical damage. The critical chance bonus is minor and does not define a build on its own. Functional until you have crafting materials, but quickly eclipsed.
- Aspect of Moros (A tier — recommended): Attacks from the Flames linger in place for several seconds after landing. When the lingering projectiles are struck by a Special, they detonate for greatly amplified explosion damage in an area around each orb. This creates a deliberate two-step combo: plant orbs on enemies with Attack, then trigger with Special to detonate all of them simultaneously. The chain detonation hits multiple clustered foes and rewards grouping enemies before firing. Cheapest craft cost of any recommended Aspect in this guide — 2 Bronze and 2 Tears — and compatible with most boon pools.
- Aspect of Eos (A tier): Adds a Daybreaker familiar that periodically pulses area damage around Melinoë automatically. The damage is reliable and requires no extra inputs — a strong passive layer that works in every encounter, with no setup required. Slightly less burst output than Moros against clustered enemies but more consistent in open rooms. Requires 2 Driftwood and 2 Golden Apples.
- Aspect of Supay (hidden — B tier): Grants Devil Sparks and boosts Rush boon damage. Rush boons are a specific subset rather than universal, so this Aspect is only S-tier in runs where Rush boons appear naturally. Unlocked by maxing one earlier Flames Aspect and speaking with Moros.
Unlock priority for Umbral Flames: Moros immediately — it is the cheapest effective Aspect in the entire game. Eos second if you prefer a passive-layer playstyle. Supay only if Rush boons are consistently appearing in your runs.
06Moonstone Axe — Best Aspect: Charon
The Moonstone Axe has two strong Aspects at v1.0 — Charon and Nergal — and two weaker ones. The default Melinoë Aspect is the weakest pick. Charon provides the highest ceiling by converting the Axe's output mechanism from physical swings into cast-driven detonations, creating an entirely different damage pattern.
- Aspect of Melinoë (default — C tier): Increases base Attack power and maximum Life. The power bonus is functional for early runs before crafting materials are available, but quickly eclipsed by Charon or Thanatos.
- Aspect of Charon (A–S tier — recommended): Casts planted in the environment erupt as Omega Cast detonations when struck by the Axe's Omega Special. This creates a deliberate loop: plant Omega Casts around enemies, then swing Omega Special to detonate them all simultaneously for compounding burst damage. On boss encounters where enemies hold position for extended windows, the detonation chain delivers enormous damage. The Charon Aspect converts the slow Axe into a cast-launcher and rewards building into Cast-boosting boons. Requires 5 Pearl and 1 Obol.
- Aspect of Thanatos (B tier): Accelerates the Axe's Attack speed and grants Mortality stacks — stacks that briefly grant invulnerability when crits occur. A post-1.0 buff elevated Thanatos from a meme pick to a viable Aspect, but it still depends on specific hammer upgrades to reach its best version. Requires 4 Glassrock and 4 Nightshade.
- Aspect of Nergal (hidden — A tier): After landing several strikes, Melinoë enters Berserk mode, gaining lifesteal on every hit. Berserk combines offensive momentum with survivability — one of the best sustainability tools for Axe runs, particularly at higher Fear difficulties where sustaining Life becomes critical. Material cost is high (15 Iron + 5 Serpent Scales), but the payoff for committed Axe players is significant. Unlocked by maxing one earlier Axe Aspect and speaking with Charon.
Unlock priority for Moonstone Axe: Charon for cast-build players, Nergal for Axe mains who prioritize survivability at high Fear. Thanatos only if you have consistent access to the hammers that enable its crit-invulnerability synergy.
07Argent Skull — Best Aspect: Medea
The Argent Skull's Aspect lineup is extremely top-heavy. Medea is in a category of its own; the default Melinoë Aspect teaches the ammo loop but does not approach Medea's ceiling; Persephone and Hel serve niche scenarios most players will not regularly build around.
- Aspect of Melinoë (default): Attacks deal increasing damage for each skull that has been thrown but not yet retrieved. Encourages throwing all available skulls before retrieval to maximize the stacking damage bonus. A functional early-game Aspect that teaches the ammo loop — use it until you have 4 Iron and 1 Nightshade.
- Aspect of Medea (S tier — strongly recommended): The skull stays within close range rather than bouncing away for retrieval. A Special detonates the skull for massive area damage on command, or the detonation triggers automatically after three seconds. At max rank, Attacks and Specials both receive a +135% damage bonus. This is the highest-damage Aspect in the game when played correctly. Medea simplifies the ammo loop — plant the skull, land the Special, collect the explosion — while delivering the game's largest flat damage multiplier. Requires 4 Iron and 1 Nightshade.
- Aspect of Persephone (C tier): The Special gains directional control and boon effects start at bonus rarity levels. The boon-level headstart compounds meaningfully only in heavily Hephaestus-weighted runs — too situational for general play. Requires 5 Poppy and 1 Moss.
- Aspect of Hel (hidden — C tier): After using Specials, Melinoë enters a Valkyrie mode with enhanced attack speed. The Valkyrie state restricts movement and creates exploitable vulnerability windows during activation — a high-risk mechanic that underperforms relative to Medea's straightforward output. Unlocked by maxing one earlier Skull Aspect and speaking with Medea.
Unlock priority for Argent Skull: Medea is the only Skull Aspect worth committing primary resources to. Unlock it as soon as you have 4 Iron and 1 Nightshade after completing the prerequisite Incantation. Do not spend Ambrosia on Persephone or Hel before Medea is maxed.
08Black Coat — Best Aspect: Nyx
The Black Coat has the most even Aspect distribution of any weapon — three of the four are viable and serve distinct playstyles. Nyx is the highest-ceiling pick for most players, but Shiva offers an intriguing burst-specialization path for players who commit fully to the Coat.
- Aspect of Melinoë (default — B tier): Boosts Melinoë's movement speed and attack speed. Speed bonuses improve the Coat's wide-arc attack cadence and repositioning — a functional baseline, but the least transformative Aspect in the Coat's lineup.
- Aspect of Nyx (A tier — recommended): Activating the Boost ability causes Nightspawn projectiles to split and multiply. At max rank, Nightspawn deals doubled damage. The multiplied projectiles hit simultaneously across the Coat's already-wide arc, which strikes multiple enemies at once — combining arc spread with Nightspawn duplication produces fast room-clear speed at manageable execution cost. Requires 4 Flux and 1 Darkness.
- Aspect of Selene (C tier): Starts each run with the Sky Fall Hex pre-equipped, applying Shine to foes struck by the Hex. Shine builds and triggers area damage. Useful early in runs but loses value quickly at higher Fear difficulty levels where Hex cooldowns limit impact. Requires 4 Silver and 4 Moon Dust.
- Aspect of Shiva (hidden — B–A tier): The Purifying Grace ability absorbs Special blasts and converts them into Destructive stacks. At full stacks, Destructive releases as a massive burst. The ceiling is the highest in the Coat's lineup, but the Destructive mechanic locks you into Special-focused play, reducing build flexibility compared to Nyx. Unlocked by maxing one earlier Coat Aspect and speaking with Selene.
Unlock priority for Black Coat: Nyx first for most players. Shiva for Coat specialists willing to build specifically around the Destructive stack mechanic and accept reduced build flexibility in exchange for higher peak output.
09Aspect Unlock Priority and Resource Guide
Before crafting any Aspect, complete the one-time Incantation "Aspects of Night and Darkness" (5 Bronze + 1 Nightshade). This unlocks the Aspect crafting system for all six weapons simultaneously.
Best Aspects ranked by unlock value relative to material cost:
- Aspect of Moros (Umbral Flames) — 2 Bronze + 2 Tears: The cheapest effective Aspect in the game. If you play the Flames at all, unlock this immediately after completing the prerequisite Incantation.
- Aspect of Medea (Argent Skull) — 4 Iron + 1 Nightshade: Low material cost for the game's highest-ceiling Aspect. First priority for Skull players.
- Aspect of Nyx (Black Coat) — 4 Flux + 1 Darkness: Mid-cost, strong payoff. Priority for dedicated Coat players.
- Aspect of Circe (Witch's Staff) — 5 Lotus + 5 Marble: More materials required, but the Staff is often the first weapon players invest in heavily. Worth the cost once you commit to a cast-focused build.
- Aspect of Charon (Moonstone Axe) — 5 Pearl + 1 Obol: Moderate cost; unlock once you commit to the Axe as a regular weapon.
- Aspect of Nergal (Moonstone Axe, hidden) — 15 Iron + 5 Serpent Scales: Expensive but the strongest survivability tool for Axe runs. Long-term priority for Axe mains at high Fear.
Hidden Aspect unlock conditions — all require maxing one non-hidden Aspect on the same weapon first, then speaking to the corresponding NPC: Anubis (Staff) → speak with Circe; Morrigan (Blades) → speak with Artemis; Supay (Flames) → speak with Moros; Nergal (Axe) → speak with Charon; Hel (Skull) → speak with Medea; Shiva (Coat) → speak with Selene.
FAQ
How many weapon Aspects are there in Hades 2?
There are 24 Aspects in Hades 2 at v1.0 — four Aspects per weapon across six Nocturnal Arms. Each weapon has one default Aspect (Aspect of Melinoë, available from the start), two additional craftable Aspects unlocked with reagents, and one hidden Aspect that requires maxing an earlier Aspect on the same weapon and speaking with a specific NPC. The hidden Aspects are: Aspect of Anubis (Witch's Staff), Aspect of Morrigan (Sister Blades), Aspect of Supay (Umbral Flames), Aspect of Nergal (Moonstone Axe), Aspect of Hel (Argent Skull), and Aspect of Shiva (Black Coat).
What is the best weapon Aspect in Hades 2?
The Aspect of Medea on the Argent Skull is widely considered the highest-ceiling Aspect in the game. At max rank it grants a +135% bonus to both Attack and Special damage, and its planted-skull detonation delivers massive area damage when a Special lands — simplifying the ammo loop while dramatically increasing burst output. The Aspect of Circe on the Witch's Staff is the strongest pick for players who prefer a safe, ranged, cast-heavy playstyle. Both are S-tier for experienced players.
What does the Aspect of Medea do in Hades 2?
The Aspect of Medea is an unlockable Aspect for the Argent Skull (Ravaal). When active, the thrown skull stays close to Melinoë rather than bouncing across the room. Landing a Special detonates the skull for large area damage — or it detonates automatically after three seconds if no Special lands first. At max rank, both Attacks and Specials receive a +135% damage bonus. The result is a simplified ammo loop (throw skull → land Special → detonate) that delivers significantly higher burst output than the default Skull mechanic. Crafting cost is 4 Iron and 1 Nightshade.
How do you unlock hidden Aspects in Hades 2?
Hidden Aspects require two steps: first, rank one non-hidden Aspect on the same weapon to its maximum rank; second, speak with a specific NPC. The NPC for each hidden Aspect: Aspect of Anubis (Staff) — speak with Circe; Aspect of Morrigan (Blades) — speak with Artemis; Aspect of Supay (Flames) — speak with Moros; Aspect of Nergal (Axe) — speak with Charon; Aspect of Hel (Skull) — speak with Medea; Aspect of Shiva (Coat) — speak with Selene. After the NPC conversation, the hidden Aspect appears as craftable at the Training Grounds.
Is the default Aspect ever the best option in Hades 2?
Yes — the Sister Blades' default Aspect of Melinoë is rated A-tier and is the strongest Aspect for that weapon in most situations, outperforming the craftable alternatives. The backstab damage multiplier on the default Aspect aligns perfectly with the Blades' Special mechanic, which already repositions Melinoë behind targets. For every other weapon, the craftable Aspects (especially Circe on the Staff, Moros on the Flames, Charon on the Axe, Medea on the Skull, and Nyx on the Coat) surpass the default once unlocked and ranked up — but the default Aspect of Melinoë is always functional enough to clear the early game while you gather crafting materials.
