Hades 2 Boon Tier List Best Gods and Boons Ranked

Updated July 20269 min readBy the HowToPlayHub team

Boons are the foundation of every Hades 2 run. Each one is offered by an Olympian god and upgrades one of Melinoe's abilities — Attack, Special, Cast, Dash, or Sprint — or adds a passive effect. Knowing which gods are strongest, which boons to prioritize, and which god pairings unlock the best Duo Boons is the difference between a run that stalls in the third region and one that takes down Chronos cleanly. This tier list reflects god rankings in Hades 2 v1.0 (September 2025) — specific boon values shift with balance patches, so cross-check with the official Supergiant Games patch notes for your current version.

01How Boon Tiers Are Defined

God tier ratings in Hades 2 are more contextual than in a game with fixed loadouts. A god rated A-tier on one weapon may be B-tier on another and S-tier on a third. The rankings below represent each god's overall value across the weapon pool with notes on weapon-specific standouts.

Boon rarity also matters significantly. A Rare or Epic boon can outperform an S-tier Common boon. Poms of Power — the upgrade items found during runs — should go to your primary damage boon, not spread thin across all boons you hold.

Duo Boons are the most powerful upgrades in the game and require holding at least one boon from each of two specific gods. They are listed separately below because they can push even mid-tier gods into run-winning territory.

02S Tier: Zeus and Hera

Zeus is the strongest god in Hades 2 for most weapon and build combinations. His boons inflict Blitz — an electric charge that accumulates on enemies with each hit and detonates for a burst of damage when the stack is full. This scales directly with hit frequency, making Zeus exceptional on fast-hitting weapons like the Sister Blades and serviceable on anything. His boons Heaven Strike (Attack) and Heaven Flourish (Special) turn each hit into a Blitz-applicator, and Arc Flash (passive) causes Omega Moves to immediately activate Blitz and deal bonus damage. Zeus scales hard with investment — higher-rarity Zeus boons compound the detonation damage significantly.

Hera inflicts Hitch — a linking debuff that causes a portion of damage dealt to one linked enemy to be shared across all Hitched enemies nearby. In rooms with multiple enemies (which is most rooms), Hitch effectively multiplies your damage output against groups. Nexus Rush (Hera's most important boon) was changed in v1.0 to affect surrounding foes rather than only enemies you directly contact, making it broadly more reliable than in Early Access. Hera is particularly powerful in the mid-to-late game where enemy density increases.

03A Tier: Aphrodite, Demeter, Hestia, Hephaestus

Aphrodite inflicts Weak (enemies deal reduced damage) and provides large percentage-based damage multipliers. On high-damage slow weapons like the Moonstone Axe, her multipliers are outstanding — percentage increases compound on already-large numbers. Flutter Flourish is the key boon: at Heroic rarity it can push a weapon's output to extreme levels. Her defensive value from Weak is also underrated — enemies that are Weak are noticeably less threatening, improving survivability.

Demeter inflicts Chill and Freeze. Chill accumulates stacks on enemies, slowing their movement and attack speed; reaching maximum Chill stacks freezes them solid temporarily. Freeze is excellent crowd control — a Frozen enemy is a harmless enemy. Ice Strike and Ice Flourish are reliable on almost any weapon, and Demeter's Duo Boon with Zeus (Hail Storm) causes Freeze effects to repeatedly strike afflicted foes with lightning. She is an A-tier god on every weapon.

Hestia inflicts Scorch — a fire damage-over-time that stacks with each hit. On high-hit-count weapons (Blades, Staff) Scorch builds quickly and deals consistent bonus damage independent of your attack timing. Hearth Gain (passive that rapidly restores Magick at the cost of Max Life) provides powerful Magick sustain.

Hephaestus inflicts Vent (fire damage burst on expiry) and empowers Ignition mechanics. Volcanic Strike is a top-tier Single boon — it causes a massive Vent burst when the damage-over-time expires, which is excellent on weapons with large single hits. Hephaestus pairs naturally with slow weapons like the Axe where his burst damage aligns with the swing timing.

04B Tier: Apollo and Poseidon

Apollo inflicts Daze — a status that causes affected enemies to periodically miss their attacks. While Daze does not deal direct damage, the miss chance from a well-maintained Daze build is a significant survivability boost, especially on harder difficulty tiers. Apollo also provides backstab damage bonuses (synergizing with the Sister Blades' Special) and area-of-effect radius increases for Cast abilities. Some builds treat Apollo as effectively S-tier — specifically Witch's Staff Cast builds and Sister Blades backstab builds where his bonuses are primary damage drivers rather than utility.

Poseidon is the most situational top-tier god. His boons deal Knockback and bonus damage when enemies strike walls. In small rooms with many walls, Poseidon is devastating — knockback into a wall deals major bonus damage repeatedly. In large open arenas, the wall damage never triggers and his value drops sharply. His best consistent boon is Fluid Gain (Magick per knockback hit), which provides excellent Magick sustain regardless of room layout. Poseidon is a strong pick when you commit to it early; a weak pick when taken as a single defensive boon.

05C Tier: Hermes

Hermes does not inflict a status effect and does not deal bonus damage. Instead, his boons provide utility: additional Cast uses, faster Cast recovery, increased Sprint speed, and unique movement modifiers. He is rated C-tier because his boons do not meaningfully amplify your damage output. However, taking one Hermes boon when you have a specific gap — needing more Cast charges for a Cast-heavy Staff build, or faster movement to enable a kiting playstyle — is reasonable and sometimes optimal.

Never take Hermes as your primary god. Always take him as a secondary utility pick when you already have a core damage build established.

06Best Duo Boons

Duo Boons unlock when you hold at least one boon from each of the two god prerequisites. They are the most powerful upgrades available and should drive keepsake and room-choice decisions whenever they are reachable.

To guarantee a Duo Boon appears, use Keepsakes from both prerequisite gods in the early chambers to ensure both gods are offered — then pick the Duo when it appears as an option.

07How to Steer Toward the Best Boons

Equip a Keepsake from your target god before the run starts. Every character and god gives a Keepsake the first time you gift them Nectar. Keepsakes from Olympian gods cause that god to appear as a room option in the next several chambers. To lock in a specific god early, equip their Keepsake for the first few regions, then switch to another god's Keepsake once you have the core boon.

Use Poms of Power on the boon that drives the most damage — typically the boon attached to your primary Attack or Special. A Heroic-rarity primary boon is much stronger than three Rare secondary boons.

Accept Well of Charon items that refine your build: Nectar of the Gods (guarantees the next boon room shows your current lead god), and Poms (upgrade any boon by one rarity). Both appear in the Well between rooms and are worth spending gold on early.

FAQ

What is the best god in Hades 2?

Zeus is the best overall god across most weapon and build combinations, due to Blitz scaling with hit frequency and dealing strong burst damage at all stages of a run. Hera is the best group-damage god thanks to Hitch's damage-sharing mechanic. For survivability-focused builds, Apollo's Daze (enemies miss attacks) is extremely strong. Ultimately the 'best' god depends on your weapon — Zeus excels on fast-hitting weapons like the Sister Blades, while Aphrodite or Hephaestus outperform him on slow heavy-hitters like the Moonstone Axe.

What are Duo Boons in Hades 2?

Duo Boons are powerful two-god combination upgrades available when you hold at least one boon from each of two specific gods. They appear as an additional option in boon rooms alongside regular single-god boons. Examples include Hail Storm (Zeus + Demeter — Freeze effects cause lightning bolts to strike afflicted foes), Hearty Appetite (Aphrodite + Demeter — deal more damage the more Life you have), and Glorious Disaster (Zeus + Apollo — channel Magick into Omega Cast for repeated lightning strikes). Duo Boons have some of the strongest effects in the game and are worth deliberately steering builds toward.

What does Daze do in Hades 2?

Daze is a status effect inflicted by Apollo's boons. While an enemy is Dazed, it periodically misses its attacks — the hit simply does not connect even when the attack animation clearly targets Melinoe. The miss chance improves Melinoe's survivability significantly, particularly in boss fights. Daze is applied by Apollo boons on Attack, Special, or Cast actions. Apollo's Lucid Gain boon also provides Magick restoration per Daze hit, making Apollo a strong sustain god on Cast-heavy builds.

What does Blitz do in Hades 2?

Blitz is Zeus's signature status effect. Hits from Zeus-enhanced attacks apply electric charge to the target. When enough charge accumulates (the Blitz threshold), it detonates automatically for a burst of lightning damage. The detonation damage scales with the rarity of the Zeus boon that applied it. Blitz benefits strongly from high hit rates — the faster you hit an enemy, the sooner Blitz detonates and reapplies.

Should I pick boons from multiple gods or focus on one?

For most runs, focusing on one or two gods produces better results than spreading across many. A Rare or Epic boon from your primary god is usually more valuable than a Common boon from a new god you have not invested in. The exception is when you are within reach of a Duo Boon — then picking up a second god's boon specifically to unlock the Duo is correct if the Duo Boon is strong for your build. Beyond that, Hermes is acceptable as a single utility pick even if you do not invest further in him.
