This guide covers the best build for each of the six Nocturnal Arms: the god to commit to, the specific boons to prioritize, the Duo Boon worth chasing, and how to navigate early choices to land the build consistently. 01Build Philosophy in Hades 2

Two principles govern every successful build in Hades 2:

• Commit early, pivot rarely. The most powerful boons compound with each other — a Zeus boon stack is meaningless without Zeus's core Blitz applicator and detonation amplifiers. Picking up single boons from five different gods gives you five weak effects rather than one dominant build. Decide on a god within the first two rooms and take everything they offer.
• Percentage damage beats flat damage. Flat damage bonuses add a fixed amount per hit. Percentage bonuses multiply your weapon's total damage output. On weapons with high base damage (Moonstone Axe) or high hit frequency (Sister Blades), percentage bonuses from Aphrodite or Hephaestus scale dramatically better than flat bonuses that scale with neither.

A secondary god is acceptable — but take them for a Duo Boon target or specific utility (Hermes for Magick sustain, Poseidon for gold), not as a replacement for your primary god's core boon.

02Sister Blades Best Build: Apollo Backstab + Zeus Blitz

The Sister Blades deal their highest damage through the backstab mechanic on the Special — dashing behind an enemy and hitting them deals massively amplified damage. Apollo's boons boost backstab multipliers and add Daze to enemies hit from the side, while Zeus's Blitz accumulates rapidly on the Blades' fast Attack chain.

Target priority (take whichever appears first per god):

• Apollo Attack boon (Back Burner): Applies Daze; Dazed foes take increased damage from behind, amplifying the Sister Blades' backstab Special — the core of the build
• Zeus Attack or Special boon (Heaven Strike / Heaven Flourish): Starts the Blitz engine on the fast Blades hit rate
• Arc Flash (Zeus passive): Omega Moves immediately activate Blitz effects and deal bonus damage — essential once you have a Blitz applicator
• Duo target — Glorious Disaster (Zeus + Apollo): Channels Magick into Omega Cast for repeated lightning bolt strikes, adding a strong burst tool alongside the melee-focused build

Keepsake setup: Start with Apollo's Keepsake (Moon Signet) for the first two regions to guarantee his Attack boon appears. Switch to Zeus's Keepsake (Thunderhead Amulet) once you have Apollo's core boon.

Avoid: Hermes, Poseidon, and Hera boons on this build — they do not interact with backstab mechanics and dilute the Zeus/Apollo concentration.

03Witch's Staff Best Build: Zeus Cast Beam

The Witch's Staff's Omega Attack fires a sustained magic beam — a continuous hit that triggers Zeus's Blitz accumulation repeatedly over its duration. Combining this with the Staff's ranged Special bolt for Blitz application at medium range creates a build that safely deals damage from range while Blitz detonates for burst damage.

For advanced players, the Circe Aspect of the Staff transforms the Omega Cast into a potent ability — Apollo's Lucid Gain becomes the highest-priority boon in the game on Circe Aspect, as the Magick sustained from Cast hits removes all Omega Attack resource constraints.

• Zeus Special boon (Heaven Flourish): Every Staff Special bolt applies Blitz at medium range
• Zeus Attack boon (Heaven Strike): The beam Omega Attack triggers Blitz accumulation per tick — extremely fast stacking
• Arc Flash (Zeus passive): Omega Moves immediately activate Blitz, removing the threshold delay on the continuous beam

• Aphrodite Special boon (Flutter Flourish): The core boon — percentage multiplier on Special, which on the Axe feeds into the Omega Attack setup
• Aphrodite Attack boon (Flutter Strike): Applies Weak on Attack hits so subsequent Omega slams land on a Weakened target
• Pom of Power priority: Max out Flutter Flourish to Heroic rarity as fast as possible — the damage scaling per rarity tier is extreme
• Duo target — Love Handles (Hephaestus + Aphrodite): Hephaestus's Blast effects also spawn a Heartthrob, an orbiting vessel that deals area damage on enemy contact — extra AoE cover while you line up the slow Omega slam. (This boon was previously called Soft Caress and had a different effect; the name and mechanic changed in a balance update.)

Keepsake setup: Aphrodite's Keepsake first. The Moonstone Axe is the weapon where Aphrodite Keepsake priority is highest — guarantee Flutter Flourish early and invest every Pom into it.

05Umbral Flames Best Build: Zeus + Hestia Chain

The Umbral Flames' spectral orb Attack applies Blitz stacks rapidly. The Special's fireball ring surrounding Melinoe then detonates multiple Blitz charges simultaneously across all nearby enemies, creating a chain-fire effect that hits multiple targets. Adding Hestia's Scorch to the same Attack or Special creates a secondary damage layer.

• Zeus Attack boon: Each spectral orb applies Blitz as it travels through enemies
• Zeus Special boon: The fireball ring triggers additional Blitz on all enemies it hits
• Hestia Attack or Special boon: Scorch stacks build simultaneously with Blitz — two damage layers per hit
• Duo target — Warm Breeze (Apollo + Hestia): Restores Health whenever a Dodge, or a Daze proc, causes an enemy to miss. Rewards the Flames' medium-range, hit-and-reposition playstyle where evading incoming attacks is frequent. (This boon was previously called Phoenix Skin and had a different, HP-sacrifice-based effect; the name and mechanic changed in a balance update.)

Note: the Zeus + Hestia combination on Umbral Flames is the most naturally occurring strong build because both gods' boons work independent of positioning — unlike the melee-dependent Axe or Blades builds.

06Argent Skull Best Build: Hephaestus Blast (with Aspect of Medea)

The Argent Skull with Hephaestus is the strongest consistent build for players comfortable with the ammo retrieval mechanic — especially once the Aspect of Medea is unlocked (see the Hades 2 Weapon Aspects Tier List). Hephaestus's Blast boons fire on a recharge timer and, on landing, apply Glow — a curse that increases damage the target takes from all sources for several seconds. Note: an earlier version of Hephaestus's kit used a different curse called Vent (a delayed damage-over-time burst); that mechanic was removed in a balance update and replaced with Glow, so guides describing a Vent/Ignition combo are describing a build that no longer exists.

For expert players: the Aspect of Medea changes the Special to a direct-melee thrust with no invulnerability frames — high risk, highest reward. Medea Aspect with Apollo (Daze on hit, Daze reduces incoming hits) and Aphrodite (multiplier on the point-blank melee hit) is considered the ceiling build for the Skull.

• Hephaestus Attack boon (Volcanic Strike): Fires a Blast on Attack once its cooldown recharges, applying Glow to hit foes

07Black Coat Best Build: Aphrodite + Demeter Crowd Control

The Black Coat's wide arcing attacks hit multiple enemies in range simultaneously. Aphrodite's Weak applied across all hit enemies reduces incoming damage from every source in the room. Demeter's Chill on those same hits steadily slows and eventually Freezes the entire enemy group, buying free attack windows.

This is one of the most defensive build approaches in the game — the combination of Weak (reduced damage dealt by enemies) and Chill/Freeze (slowed and immobilized enemies) creates a forgiving environment for players still learning the Black Coat's unusual input timing.

• Aphrodite Attack boon: Weak applied to all enemies hit by the wide arc — entire rooms become less threatening simultaneously
• Demeter Special boon (Ice Flourish or Ice Strike): Chill builds on the same arc hits; groups Freeze in a few combos
• Duo target — Hearty Appetite (Aphrodite + Demeter): Melinoe deals more damage the more Life she currently has — rewards the defensive high-health setup this build naturally creates

Black Coat is the build where the Shiva Aspect (Destruction burst specialization) unlocks a different play pattern — Destruction charges compound and release in a burst that pairs well with Hestia (Scorch detonation) instead of Aphrodite/Demeter.

08Universal Build Tips

• Lock in your primary god's Attack or Special boon before room 4. Taking a primary boon after room 5 means you have spent 5 rooms at base attack damage. The earlier the core boon, the more value it produces.
• Use Poms on one boon only. Every run produces a limited number of Poms of Power. Using them all on a single boon pushes it to Epic or Heroic rarity — a large jump in power. Distributing across three boons produces three Rare boons — significantly weaker than one Heroic.
• Never skip a Duo Boon room. When a Duo Boon appears as an option in a reward room, take it regardless of what else is offered. They are the strongest upgrades in the game.
• Carry a spare Keepsake for phase 2. Use your primary god's Keepsake for regions 1 and 2 to secure the core boon, then switch to the Duo Boon partner's Keepsake for regions 3 and 4 to guarantee the Duo appears.
• Check Well of Charon stock before boss rooms. The Well always appears before each Guardian fight. Buy health if you need it, but also buy Pom Blossom (upgrades a random boon) if gold allows — free rarity upgrade before a boss fight is high value.
