Forza Horizon 6 has robust wheel support out of the box, but the default force feedback settings are tuned to be inoffensive rather than informative. A few changes to rotation, deadzones, and the force feedback sliders make a real difference in how much the car actually tells you through the wheel. This guide covers the in-game Advanced Wheel Settings menu and, for Fanatec owners, the wheelbase's own tuning menu on top of it.
01Before You Touch Anything: Start From Default
Update your wheelbase and pedal firmware/drivers before changing any in-game settings — a lot of reported "dead" or "numb" force feedback turns out to be outdated firmware rather than a bad setting. Once that's done, reset both your wheel's own software and FH6's in-game settings to default first, and adjust from there one setting at a time so you can actually tell what each change is doing.
02Steering Rotation
FH6's steering rotation should roughly match your wheel's physical rotation for accurate 1:1 steering. As a starting range:
- 540–1080° is the broad usable range depending on driving style.
- 900–1080° tends to give smoother, more natural self-steer for road racing and drifting.
- 540–720° suits off-road and rally-style driving, where quicker corrections matter more than smooth self-centering.
03Deadzones (Advanced Wheel Settings)
In the Advanced Wheel Settings menu, deadzones trim off the very start and end of each axis's input range:
- Steering axis deadzone — inside 0, outside 100 as a baseline.
- Acceleration axis deadzone — inside 0, outside 100 as a baseline.
- Deceleration (brake) axis deadzone — inside 0–5, outside 95–100 as a baseline.
If you can't reach 100% braking without pressing the pedal to its physical limit, lower the Deceleration axis outside deadzone a little — for example to 95–98 — so full brake registers before the pedal bottoms out.
04Force Feedback Settings Explained
These are the sliders that actually shape what you feel through the wheel:
- Vibration scale (roughly 20–40) — controls impact and tire-scrub vibration.
- Force feedback scale (roughly 55–75) — overall strength of the effect. Too high and it clips, smoothing over detail instead of adding it.
- Center spring scale (roughly 5–20) — the self-centering effect. Keep this low; a strong center spring fights the wheel's own natural self-aligning torque.
- Wheel damper scale — roughly 0–20 for belt/gear-driven wheels, 10–30 for direct drive. Trades stability for how quickly you can countersteer.
- Mechanical trail scale (roughly 80–110) — shapes the caster feel, i.e. how the wheel wants to return to center as grip builds. Useful to raise slightly for drifting, where you want a clear sense of when the front tires regain grip.
- Force feedback minimum force (roughly 0–10) — boosts small forces if the wheel feels numb right around center.
- Road feel scale (roughly 10–30) — adds road texture and bumps. Push this too high and it turns into constant rumble that drowns out everything else.
- Load sensitivity (roughly 0–15) — lower values smooth the feedback out, higher values add more detail at the cost of some smoothness.
Steering sensitivity and linearity are worth leaving close to default: sensitivity around 50, linearity in the 45–55 range (50 being a fully linear response from center to full lock).
05Fanatec-Specific Tuning Menu Presets
Fanatec direct drive wheelbases have their own tuning menu on top of FH6's in-game settings, and Fanatec publishes recommended starting points for FH6 on each base — described as small tweaks from default rather than a full rebuild:
- Podium DD1 / DD2 — PC: SEN Auto, FFB 60, NDP 30. Xbox: SEN 1440, FFB 60, NDP 30.

06Quick Troubleshooting
- Wheel pulls the wrong way / fights your steering input — toggle Invert Force Feedback. This reverses the direction of the effect and is the fix if your wheel resists turning in instead of resisting the way a real car's steering would.
- Feedback feels numb or too light — try lowering Load Sensitivity rather than raising overall Force Feedback Scale. It widens the range of forces the wheel actually reproduces instead of just making everything louder.
- Wheel feels heavy or sluggish to catch a slide — lower Wheel Damper Scale, which is the setting most directly trading stability for how quickly you can countersteer.
