04Community Tunes: The Right Starting Point
Before spending an hour manually tuning, check the community tunes library in the tuning menu. Search by the car's name and filter by race type. Sort by Most Downloaded or Highest Rated.
Good community tuners tag their setups clearly — 'Touge S1', 'Drift D-Class', 'Road Race S2' — so you can quickly find a tune matched to your intended use. Downloading takes seconds and is free.
When to move away from community tunes:
- The car still understeers on hairpins despite a 'Touge' tune — try reducing front ARB stiffness by 2–3 points.
- The rear snaps on corner exit — reduce rear diff accel lock by 5–10%.
- The car bounces on rough cross-country sections — soften both bump and rebound stiffness by 10–15%.
- The car doesn't rotate cleanly into drift entries — soften ARBs and add rear toe-out by 0.1.
These are targeted single-variable adjustments. Change one thing, test, then decide if you need another change. Changing multiple settings at once makes it impossible to know what helped.
05Upgrade Priority by Race Type
Upgrades raise PI and change a car's character. Here is where to spend first when building for a specific discipline:
- Tyres first, always. Stock tyres on any performance car hold it back more than any other single component. Sport or Race compound tyres are the single highest-value upgrade regardless of race type.
- Brakes second (for road and Touge). Race brakes reduce stopping distances dramatically on Japan's tight mountain roads.
- Engine for drag and straight-line events. Engine swaps or forced induction (turbo/supercharger) raise power and PI significantly — useful for drag builds where top-end power and launch are everything.
- Weight reduction for Touge and tight circuits. Removing weight improves every aspect of handling: braking, acceleration, and cornering. Race weight reduction is expensive in credits but worth it on a dedicated Touge car.
- Suspension for cross-country and dirt. Upgraded suspension increases ride height range and damping adjustability — essential for off-road builds that need to survive big jumps.
