  • DLCJun 7, 2026Xbox Games Showcase: PS5 confirmed as a day-one platform alongside Xbox Series X/S and PC — the first Fable game to launch on PlayStation. Release date locked to February 23, 2027 (early access February 18 for Premium/Collector Edition). First post-launch expansion announced: 'Fable: Order of the Hero' — a story-driven DLC adding a brand-new Albion region built around an ancient cult; included in the Premium Edition ($100). Guide 'beginner-guide' had an incorrect claim that PS5 was not supported — corrected.
  • PATCHMay 29, 2026Fable officially delayed to February 23, 2027 (from Fall 2026). Xbox head Matt Booty confirmed the date slip to give the game 'the dedicated moment it deserves' and to avoid competing with GTA 6 (Nov 19 launch). All guides updated to reflect the confirmed release date.

Quick answers

Is the new Fable a sequel or a reboot?

The new Fable is a reboot of the Lionhead Studios series, developed by Playground Games (creators of Forza Horizon) and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is set in the same world of Albion but tells a fresh story with a new protagonist — you do not need to have played the original trilogy to enjoy it. Fans of Fable I, II and III will, however, recognise the trademark British humour, morality system, and the colourful world of Albion.

Is Fable an open world game?

Yes. Fable takes place in Albion, a richly detailed open world inspired by British folklore and the English countryside. You can explore towns, forests, dungeons, and ancient ruins at your own pace, taking on quests in largely any order you choose. The world reacts to your moral alignment, so NPCs, environments, and even your hero's appearance change depending on whether you play as a noble hero or a feared villain.

How does the morality system work in Fable?

Fable's morality system tracks your decisions throughout the game — how you treat NPCs, the quests you complete, and your behaviour in combat all shift your alignment on a scale from pure good to pure evil. Your hero's appearance changes visibly as your morality shifts, and NPCs react very differently to a saintly hero versus a villainous tyrant. Certain quests, abilities, and items are also unlocked by specific alignment thresholds.

What platforms is Fable available on?

Fable is available on PC (via Steam and the Xbox app / Microsoft Store) and Xbox Series X/S. As an Xbox first-party title it is included in Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from day one, so subscribers can play it at no extra cost. It is not available on PlayStation platforms.
