WoW Forever Hunter Pets Taming, Loyalty and Happiness

Hunters in WoW Forever (World of Warcraft: Forever, launching November 4, 2026) get their first pet from a three-part class quest chain at level 10, which teaches Tame Beast and Beast Training. After that, the pet is a system with rules: you can only tame beasts at or below your level, a tame fails if the beast loses focus on you, and loyalty and happiness decide how strong and how trainable the pet is. This guide covers those rules as they stand in the beta; exact numbers are beta values and can still change, so some details are deliberately left out until they can be confirmed.

01Getting Your First Pet at Level 10

Visit your hunter trainer at level 10. The trainer offers the first of three taming quests, which differ by race. Completing the chain teaches Tame Beast; the last quest also unlocks Beast Training, Feed Pet and Revive Pet, so do not skip it even if you already know where you want to hunt.

Pick the beast with your level in mind: you can only tame beasts at your level or lower, so a higher-level target is simply not an option.

02How Taming Works and Why It Fails

Tame Beast is a channel. While you channel, the beast has to stay focused on you, and anything that breaks that breaks the tame: losing aggro, another player interfering, or the beast being hurt mid-channel.

• You cannot tame while you already have a pet, even a dismissed one.
• You cannot tame while a dead pet is in your stable; revive it first.
• Slow or immobilise the target beforehand with Concussive Shot or a Freezing Trap.
• Aspect of the Monkey helps, because your armor drops to zero while you channel.

Because the channel is where hunters die, tame in a quiet corner rather than next to a patrol or another player's pull.

03Loyalty, Training Points and Beast Training

Loyalty has six ranks: Rebellious, Unruly, Submissive, Dependable, Faithful and Best Friend. A new tame starts at Rebellious. Loyalty sets how many Training Points the pet has, and Training Points are what you spend in Beast Training on new abilities or higher ranks of existing ones. Feeding the pet and killing mobs with it both raise loyalty over time.

Practical consequence: a freshly tamed high-level pet can have little or even negative Training Points, so tame early and keep the pet you level with rather than swapping often. A trainer can unlearn abilities for a small fee, but one beta note warns that a full reset also removes Attack Speed, which counts as an ability there, so avoid resetting everything.

04Happiness and Feeding

Happiness is a hidden value that falls over time and drops sharply when the pet dies. Feeding restores it, but you cannot feed in combat. Hover the happiness icon in the pet frame to see which foods your pet accepts, because food types differ by pet.

In the beta, happiness behaviour looks buggy: one guide reports that it currently only drops when the pet dies. Do not build a routine around exact decay rates until launch.

05What Is Still Unconfirmed

The beta's character sheet is incomplete for pets: Pet Hit scaling, Pet Expertise and pet movement speed values were listed as known display issues in the September 17 list. Exact pet stat scaling and the best pet family for leveling are not covered here because they could not be confirmed from more than one source.
