WARDOGS Recon & Spotting The Fast Way to Level
In WARDOGS the quickest Recon XP does not come from a sniper rifle: it comes from spotting enemies with binoculars, which needs no kill, no rifle and no unlocks. Guides agree on this; the exact numbers vary by source and build, so this page gives the values two sources share and flags the rest.
01The Short Version
- Spotting (tagging) enemies with binoculars pays Recon XP on its own.
- Reported values: about 25 Recon XP per spot, plus about 150 more if the spotted target is killed or destroyed — even by a teammate.
- Skip the starter Scout Rifle TD; carry a weapon you can fight with and spot instead.
- The SKS unlocks at Recon level 5 and is the first real step up.
- Guides advise spotting from drill towers and roofs inside the Control Zone.
02How Spotting Pays
Two independent guides give the same figures: 25 Recon XP for a spot and 150 for the target being killed or destroyed afterwards, regardless of who lands the kill (GamesFuze, September 12; allthings.how, from Closed Beta 02). Dexerto confirms the principle — spotting infantry, vehicles and helicopters earns XP, and repeatedly spotting the same target pays reduced XP.
allthings.how also lists cash: about $100 for a first tag and $400 for a destroyed mark, and $75 for the binoculars with no level requirement. These come from a single source and from the beta, so check your own payout screen.
Because a destroyed mark pays more than the spot itself, the best targets are ones your team will actually kill: enemy infantry pushing the zone, vehicles your anti-tank players can engage, helicopters near your AA.
03Kills and Gear Gates
Recon weapon kills pay too — one guide gives 250 Recon XP, 350 at long range — but that is also a single-source beta figure.
The SKS unlocks at Recon level 5 (confirmed by Dexerto, KeenGamer and the weapons guide); its bipod comes at level 7. Under Wardog level 9, prices are halved by the New Recruit Discount, per one guide. Later rifles and their unlock prices are in the best weapons guide, so they are not repeated here.
04Spotting Tools
Binoculars are the entry tool. The same single source lists a monocular (Recon 2) and rangefinders (Recon 8 and later) and says only rangefinders show distance. Treat that tier list as beta data.
Tip from the same guide: hold your optic on the target for a second or two to register a tag, and zero your scope to the range with Page Up / Page Down.
05Where to Do It
Guides recommend elevated positions inside or overlooking the Control Zone, since that is where enemies and the XP concentrate. Pick a position with cover behind you, and keep a cash buffer before buying an expensive rifle: your kit is bought fresh each life, as the money guide explains. For map-specific ground see the maps guide and the Control Zone guide.
06Exploits Are Not Worth It
Update 0.1.2 (September 30) targeted cash and XP exploits, and a republished copy of the notes says repeat abusers risk progression resets and permanent bans (we could not confirm this wording on BULKHEAD's own page). Stick to real spotting.
