WARDOGS Anti-Tank & Anti-Air Launchers, Unlocks and Weak Points
WARDOGS has three launchers, all on the Support track: the RPG-7 (level 5) and MAAWS (level 20) against ground vehicles, and the 9K333 Verba (level 16) against aircraft. Unlocking one is a two-step process, and using one well is mostly about where you aim: rear engines on tanks, tails and rotors on helicopters. This guide covers the unlock path and the counterplay, with times and hit counts taken from Season 1 guides. Season 2 is expected around October 15, so numbers may shift; recheck the in-game vendor.
01The Three Launchers
- RPG-7: Support level 5, $30,000 unlock. Unguided anti-vehicle rocket; the first handheld answer to armor.
- 9K333 Verba: Support level 16, $50,000 unlock. Guided anti-air missile.
- MAAWS: Support level 20, $125,000 unlock. 84mm anti-tank launcher with a reusable tube, so you can reload and keep pressure on armor.
Per-life prices and the full Support weapon list are in the best weapons guide; this page focuses on using them.
02Unlock Path
Reaching the required Support level only makes the launcher appear in the shop. It stays locked until you make the one-time payment, and after that you pay a per-life price to bring it into a match. Cash carries between matches, but dying means rebuying your loadout.
Building is the steadiest Support XP: finish FOBs and walls with the hammer, repair vehicles with the drill, and destroy enemy vehicles or buildables. A teammate finishing a structure you placed still pays you.
03Killing Tanks
Tanks are weakest at the rear engine and strongest at the front plate. Rounded time-to-kill estimates from one Season 1 table:
- RPG-7: about 60 seconds front, 31 side, 25 rear.
- MAAWS: about 33 seconds front, 22 side, 11 rear.
A second guide reports a single RPG-7 hit to the rear engine of the L2A6 immobilises it and about three finish it, with the front protected by active armor. So the plan is to get behind it: immobilise first, then finish from the rear while a teammate keeps its gun busy.
04Explosives as Backup
C4 and IEDs obey the same armor rules as launchers, so stacking charges on the front plate wastes them. Equip them in quick slots before you approach and place them on the rear engine deck. The IED is detonated with a phone detonator, so you can trigger it from behind a wall.
05Killing Helicopters
Use the Verba when you have a clear lock; it is the intended anti-air tool. Tail hits can destroy a tail rotor so the pilot loses control. One guide lists two explosive hits for the Z20 Lakota (MAAWS recommended, aim at the tail) and a single accurate RPG-7 or MAAWS hit to the Havoc's main rotor, otherwise about two MAAWS hits.
If you fly yourself, the helicopter flying guide covers how to stay alive against exactly this kind of attack.
06Other Vehicles and Season 2
Guide figures for lighter targets: a Humvee dies to three RPG-7 hits or one MAAWS shot outside damage-reduction areas, and a Ural dies to one MAAWS hit to the side. These come from a single guide, so treat them as approximate. Season 2 is described as starting around October 15; patch changes can alter armor and prices, so cross-check in-game before spending $125,000. For what you are fighting see the vehicles guide.
FAQ
How do I unlock the anti-tank launcher in WARDOGS?
Reach Support level 20 for the MAAWS, then pay the one-time $125,000 unlock in the shop. Reaching the level only makes it appear; it stays locked until you pay. After that you pay a per-life price (about $2,600) each time you bring it into a match.
Which launcher shoots down helicopters?
The 9K333 Verba, unlocked at Support level 16 for $50,000. It is a guided anti-air missile. The RPG-7 can hit helicopters but unguided rockets are hard to land on a moving aircraft.
Where do I hit a tank to kill it fastest?
The rear engine. Guides agree the rear is the weakest armor zone and the front plate the most resistant; one timing table lists about 11 seconds from the rear against about 33 from the front with the MAAWS.
Do C4 and IEDs work against tanks?
Yes, but they follow the same armor rules as launchers, so charges stacked on the front plate are largely wasted. Place them on the rear engine deck.
How do I level Support fast enough to unlock launchers?
Building earns the most: place and finish FOBs and structures with the hammer, and repair vehicles. Kills with Support weapons and destroying enemy vehicles also add XP.
