Interactive Terraria Boss Checklist Track Every Kill from Pre-Hardmode to Moon Lord

02Recommended Kill Order and What Each Boss Unlocks

The tracker above follows the progression sequence that gives you the smoothest gear curve. Here's why the order matters beyond just difficulty:

• Eye of Cthulhu → Eater of Worlds / Brain of Cthulhu: The ore from these two fights crafts Shadow or Crimson armor — your first real defensive upgrade. Skipping straight to Skeletron in starting gear is possible but painful.
• Queen Bee (optional): Her defeat moves the Witch Doctor NPC into your town. He sells Leaf Wings and the Tiki Armor set, making early Hardmode much more forgiving — worth the detour.
• Skeletron: Unlocks the Dungeon, which holds pre-Hardmode tier weapons (Muramasa, Handgun, Cobalt Shield) that are hard to replace until Hardmode ores appear.
• Wall of Flesh: The point of no return. Once he falls, the world is permanently in Hardmode — new biomes spread, enemies strengthen, and the entire second half of the game begins. Don't attempt this until you have solid armor and a long Underworld bridge built.
• All three Mechanical Bosses: None of them individually unlocks Plantera — all three must fall. The third kill triggers 'The jungle grows restless...' and starts Plantera's Bulbs spawning.
• Plantera → Golem: Plantera drops the Temple Key, which opens the Jungle Temple where Golem lives. Golem's death then spawns the Cultists at the Dungeon, starting the endgame sequence.
• Lunatic Cultist → Pillars → Moon Lord: This final chain is fixed and cannot be reordered. Clear all four Celestial Pillars to trigger Moon Lord's automatic summon 60 seconds later.

03Common Walls Players Hit — and How to Break Through

Certain points in the boss sequence stop most players cold, usually from under-preparation rather than bad skill:

• Wall of Flesh wall: Players who rush it in Necro or Jungle armor frequently fail because the Wall accelerates and they run out of bridge. Solution: build a bridge of at least 900 blocks across the Underworld, drink Swiftness and Ironskin potions, and clear the Hungry tentacles before focusing the eyes. Molten Armor is the best pre-Hardmode melee option.
• Mechanical Boss wall: Rushing a mechanical boss in pre-Hardmode armor with pre-Hardmode weapons is the most common Hardmode stumble. The correct sequence is: smash Demon Altars with the Pwnhammer (3 altars unlocks all ore tiers) → mine and craft Cobalt/Palladium up to Adamantite/Titanium armor → build a proper arena with campfires, heart lanterns, and a sunflower. The Destroyer first is easiest because its long segmented body is shredded by piercing weapons.
• Plantera wall: Players who find a Bulb immediately after killing the third Mechanical Boss are usually under-geared. Plantera is a significant difficulty spike. Recommended gear: Hallowed Armor, Megashark or Death Sickle, a large open arena in the Underground Jungle (at least 60 × 60 tiles) with actuated blocks or platforms.
• Moon Lord wall: Many players reach Moon Lord with Spectre or Turtle Armor and get erased. His True Eye of Cthulhu beams hit for enormous damage. Farm Duke Fishron (drops the Tsunami, Tempest Staff, and Fishron Wings) before the Celestial Pillars — it makes a meaningful difference even for players who find him optional earlier.
