Sims 4: How to Have a Baby (Pregnancy Guide)

Updated July 20267 min readBy the HowToPlayHub team

Starting a family is one of the most popular things to do in The Sims 4 — and there are more ways to do it than the obvious one. This guide covers Try for Baby, adoption, the Science Baby route, how pregnancy works day by day, how to aim for twins, and the cheats that speed the whole thing up.

Quick answer

To have a baby in Sims 4, build romance between two Sims to roughly 40% or higher, then use the Try for Baby interaction on a bed (or adopt, or use the Science Baby option from a computer for §1,200). Pregnancy lasts about three Sim days, one trimester per day, and you can give birth at home or at a hospital. The Fertile reward trait and a Fertility Massage raise your odds of twins or triplets.

01The Ways to Have a Baby

There are three main routes to a new family member, and a fourth if you count the science route separately:

02Try for Baby: Step by Step

The standard method needs a little romance groundwork first:

  1. Build the two Sims' romance bar to roughly 40% or higher using flirty interactions — the higher it is, the more reliable Try for Baby becomes.
  2. Click a bed (a double bed, or other WooHoo-enabled objects like certain bushes or the rocket ship).
  3. Select Try for Baby with the partner Sim.
  4. A jingle and a notification confirm success. A pregnant Sim gets a moodlet and a visible bump appears around the second day.
  5. If it does not take, simply Try for Baby again — there is a strong but not guaranteed chance each attempt.

03How Pregnancy Works (Day by Day)

Pregnancy in The Sims 4 runs about three Sim days on the normal lifespan, roughly one trimester per day:

Keep the pregnant Sim well-fed and rested — a good mood reduces uncomfortable moodlets and makes the three days smoother.

04Twins, Triplets & Influencing the Baby

If you want more than one baby at a time, a couple of mechanics raise your odds:

05Pregnancy Cheats

If you would rather skip the waiting, cheats handle it. Open the console (Ctrl+Shift+C) and enter testingcheats true first, then Shift+Click the pregnant Sim for options like 'Pregnancy' → make the Sim progress to the next trimester or give birth immediately.

FAQ

How do you have a baby in Sims 4?

Build two Sims' romance to about 40% or higher, then click a bed and choose Try for Baby with the partner. A notification confirms success and a bump appears by the second day. You can also adopt a child via the phone with no partner, or use the Science Baby option from a computer for about §1,200 to have a biological child solo.

How long is pregnancy in Sims 4?

On the normal lifespan, pregnancy lasts about three Sim days — roughly one trimester per day. The bump appears around day two, and on day three you can give birth at home for free and instantly, or travel to a hospital for a longer birth event. The Fertile reward trait shortens pregnancy slightly.

How do you get twins or triplets in Sims 4?

Increase the chance of multiples by buying the Fertile reward trait (3,000 satisfaction points), which boosts twin and triplet odds, or by getting a Fertility Massage from the Spa Day pack. There is no cheat that guarantees twins in the base game, but stacking these effects noticeably raises the likelihood compared to a normal pregnancy.

Can male Sims get pregnant in Sims 4?

Yes. In Create-A-Sim, open a Sim's gender customisation options and enable the ability to become pregnant — this works for any Sim regardless of their displayed gender. That Sim can then use Try for Baby and carry the pregnancy normally. Same-sex couples can also adopt or use the Science Baby option to have children.
