How to Beat Savage Beastfly in Silksong

Updated August 20266 min readBy the HowToPlayHub team

The Savage Beastfly has earned a reputation as one of Silksong's most hated optional bosses — it even has its own dedicated hate-subreddit. It isn't a complex fight on paper: two attacks, a small arena. What makes it brutal is the endless stream of bugs it summons while you're already dodging in tight quarters. Here's where to find it, what it does, and how to actually win.

Quick answer

The Savage Beastfly is an optional boss found in the Chapel of the Beast in Hunter's March (Act 1), reachable with the Drifter's Cloak glide. A tougher rematch appears in Far Fields (Act 2) via the Grand Hunt wish from Bellhart, once you've beaten the Cogwork Dancers. It only has two real attacks — a wall-to-wall charge and a triple downward slam — but its cramped arena and endless bug summons turn it into a DPS race. Bait the charge into a wall to stun it, hit its sides during the slam, and kill summoned bugs fast before they overwhelm you. Winning rewards the Beast Crest.

01Where to Find the Savage Beastfly

The Savage Beastfly shows up twice, in two different regions:

Neither fight blocks story progress — you can skip both and come back later if you're not ready.

02Should You Fight It Right Away?

You can challenge the Hunter's March Beastfly as soon as you reach it, but most guides agree it's a rough difficulty spike that early. It's worth waiting until you've picked up the Cling Grip wall-jump ability (from Shellwood) for better evasion in the cramped chapel, along with a few extra mask shards and a needle upgrade or two.

03Savage Beastfly Attacks

The moveset is short, which is exactly why the fight is deceptive:

Those three moves, combined with a small arena and constant adds, are what make this fight feel harder than its simple pattern suggests.

04Strategy to Beat It

  1. Bait the charge into a wall. Stand near an edge so the charge slams the Beastfly into the wall, stunning it briefly and opening a free punish window.
  2. Hit its sides during the slam. Position about two Hornet-lengths from where it's about to land, then swing as it hits the ground — this is your most reliable damage window.
  3. Treat it as a DPS race, not a dodge fight. The longer the fight runs, the more bugs pile up. Play aggressively between its two attacks instead of turtling.
  4. Clear summoned bugs fast. Thread Storm is especially good here since it hits the boss and clears adds in the same swing — don't let the arena fill up.
  5. Let the Beastfly kill its own summons. Its slam and charge both damage the smaller bugs it spawns, so baiting those attacks near a cluster of adds saves you time.
  6. Bring the Reaper Crest if you have it. Its wide downward-strike arc lines up well with the slam-punish window and nets extra hits other Crests miss.

05Reward

Beating the Hunter's March Savage Beastfly unlocks the Beast Crest — a Crest with only two red Tool slots (one fewer than most Crests), but which puts Hornet into a rage-style mode on Bind: attacks hit harder and landing hits recovers HP. The Far Fields rematch, completed through the wish board, rewards a mask shard instead.

FAQ

Where is the Savage Beastfly in Silksong?

The main encounter is in the Chapel of the Beast in Hunter's March (Act 1) — you need the Drifter's Cloak glide ability to reach it. A tougher rematch appears in Far Fields (Act 2) via the Grand Hunt wish from Bellhart, unlocked after you beat the Cogwork Dancers.

Is Savage Beastfly optional in Silksong?

Yes, both encounters are entirely optional and don't block story progress. You can skip them and return once you have better tools, like the Cling Grip wall-jump or extra mask shards.

Why is Savage Beastfly so hard in Silksong?

Its two attacks — a wall-to-wall charge and a triple downward slam — aren't individually complex, but the fight happens in a cramped arena while it constantly summons bugs. Players have to fight the boss and manage an escalating swarm of adds at the same time, which is why it's earned a reputation as one of the hardest optional fights in the game, complete with its own hate-subreddit.

What do you get for beating Savage Beastfly?

The Hunter's March fight rewards the Beast Crest, which trades a Tool slot for a rage-style Bind that boosts attack damage and heals on hit. The Far Fields rematch, completed through Bellhart's wish board, rewards a mask shard instead.
