Currency is the backbone of everything in Path of Exile 2 — it funds crafting, it buys gear from other players, and it directly determines how far you can push your build. The difference between a player who earns 5 Exalted Orbs per hour and one who earns 30 comes down to a handful of strategic choices about which content to run, how to configure Atlas passives, and which drops to prioritise. This guide covers the most efficient currency farming methods available in PoE2 endgame.

01Understanding PoE2 Currency: What Matters and What to Sell

Path of Exile 2 has a layered currency system. Not all currency items hold equal trade value:

• Exalted Orb: Adds a new random modifier to a rare item. High trade value — typically the primary currency unit for mid-range trade transactions.
• Divine Orb: Rerolls the values of existing modifiers. Very high trade value — used to finalise high-end gear. Often serves as the premium denomination in player economy.
• Chaos Orb: Unlike Path of Exile 1, it does not reroll every modifier — it removes one random modifier from a Rare item and replaces it with a new one, a single targeted (if unpredictable) swap. The Exalted Orb has largely taken over Chaos Orb's old role as the bulk trade unit; Chaos Orbs are still common and useful for small trades and quick fixes, just no longer the primary transaction denomination.
• Orb of Annulment: Removes a random modifier. Valuable for crafting when removing a bad prefix or suffix without destroying the item.

• Currency-specific nodes: PoE2's Atlas has passive clusters tied to specific currency types. Currency duplication chance (chance for a currency item to drop an extra copy) is extremely high value — one extra Divine Orb drop changes a run's value entirely.
• Ritual nodes: Ritual is one of the best mechanics for currency in PoE2. As of the Return of the Ancients update, endgame Ritual Altar rewards are exclusively Uniques and Omens — tribute earned from cleared Rituals is spent choosing from that reward pool rather than buying raw currency directly. A well-juiced Ritual map with dense packs still converts into strong sell value through those Unique and Omen drops. Since altar rewards are Uniques/Omens rather than raw orbs, value per run varies with what drops rather than a fixed currency amount, but dense packs and multiple altars per map reliably increase it.
• Breach-farming in high Atlas investment maps: Breach was reworked around the Genesis Tree: clearing Breach hands and opening Clasped Hands drops Breach Splinters, Wombgifts, Hiveblood, and Catalysts (Catalysts can still drop directly from monsters, not only through the Genesis Tree). Splinters build toward a Breachstone and access to the Breach pinnacle boss, while Hiveblood is spent at the Genesis Tree to craft jewelry, currency, and Breachstones. • Clear every pack; do not rush bosses: Currency drops from normal monsters are the bulk of your income. A map boss killed while leaving 40% of the monsters uncleared is leaving significant currency on the ground.
• Maintain a loot filter: PoE2's item density is too high to manually evaluate every drop. A tight loot filter that hides low-value items (below a specific item level or type) lets you vacuum up high-value drops without slowing down. Regularly update your filter as your wealth grows — what is worth picking up changes.
• Use a fast build for farming maps: Currency per hour is heavily determined by map clear speed. A build that clears a map in 4 minutes earns 50% more per hour than one that clears the same map in 6 minutes, even if the drops per map are identical.
