Mortal Shell 2 New Game Plus Guide — What Carries Over and What Resets

Updated September 20266 min readBy HowToPlayHub

Mortal Shell 2 doesn't call it New Game Plus in the menu — it's New Purpose — and the game gives you exactly zero warning before it commits you to starting it. Here's what triggers it, what you keep, and what you lose.

Quick answer

New Game Plus in Mortal Shell 2 is called New Purpose. To start it, clear the three Unfound Path bosses (Orrem, the Golem; The Monolith; Malborn Offspring), beat the final boss Zmey, the Unbidden, then go to the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep's Ova room and select Send Ova — there's no confirmation prompt, so that one button press locks you into the ending and the next cycle immediately. Your Harbinger level, Shell bonds, weapons, Tarstones, and currency all carry over; Ova, beacons (except two), dungeons, and NPC questlines reset. Enemies hit harder and have more health in the new cycle, and it stacks with Night Mode if you want it harder still.

01How to Start New Purpose

  1. Clear all three Unfound Path bosses: Orrem, the Golem; The Monolith; and Malborn Offspring.
  2. Defeat the final boss, Zmey, the Unbidden.
  3. Use the free-roam window after that fight to wrap up anything you still want to do — collectibles, remaining Shell Memories, unfinished questlines.
  4. Head to the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep's Ova room and select Send Ova.

02There Is No Confirmation Prompt — Read This Before You Press Anything

Selecting Send Ova has no confirmation dialog. One wrong button press on that menu moves you straight into the ending cutscene and drops you into New Purpose immediately afterward. If you have loose ends — a boss you haven't fought, a Shell Memory you haven't watched, an item you meant to grab — finish it before you go anywhere near the Gloom Siphon.

04What Resets

05What Gets Harder

Enemies and bosses come back with more health, higher damage, and more aggression. Boss attack patterns stay the same as your first run, but the windows to punish them safely get noticeably tighter. If that's still not enough, New Purpose stacks with Night Mode for players who want the hardest version of the game available.

FAQ

Is New Game Plus called something different in Mortal Shell 2?

Yes — in-game it's called New Purpose, but it functions the same way New Game Plus does in other Soulslikes: a fresh cycle with your progression carried over and the game made harder.

How do I start New Game Plus in Mortal Shell 2?

Beat all three Unfound Path bosses (Orrem, The Monolith, Malborn Offspring), defeat the final boss Zmey, the Unbidden, then go to the Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep's Ova room and select Send Ova. That choice has no confirmation prompt, so make sure you're actually ready before selecting it.

Do I keep my Shells and weapons in New Game Plus?

Yes. Your Harbinger level, all Shells and their Bond progress, weapons and Sidearms with their upgrade levels, Tarstones, and your Glimpse/Gloom/Coin totals all carry over.

What resets when you start New Game Plus?

Your Ova count, almost all beacons (two stay unlocked), Corrupted Gate dungeons, NPC questlines, and opened chests all reset. The prologue is skipped entirely.

Is New Game Plus harder in Mortal Shell 2?

Yes — enemies and bosses get more health, more damage, and more aggression, though their attack patterns don't change. It can be combined with Night Mode for an even tougher run.
