GTA 6 map size in km — map size km2, how big is Leonida? size, regions & comparisons
The GTA 6 map size in km — also written GTA VI map size in km, or GTA 6 map size km2 — for the state of Leonida, with Vice City at its centre, is the largest open world Rockstar has built. Rockstar hasn't published an official map size square kilometers figure, but the six named regions have been confirmed, and community mapping puts the landmass at roughly 125 km² (125 km2), or about 2 to 2.5 times GTA 5's map. Here's what's confirmed, what's estimated, and what's still unknown.
01What Rockstar has officially confirmed
Rockstar has not released an official map size in square miles or square kilometres — that figure remains not officially confirmed. What they have confirmed through trailers, official site copy, and pre-release press materials is:
- The setting is the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by modern-day Florida.
- The map contains six distinct named regions, each with its own environment and character.
- Vice City is the main metropolitan hub, described by Rockstar as the most detailed city the studio has ever created.
- The world is framed as the biggest and most immersive Rockstar has produced.
- The game releases November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
02The six confirmed regions
Rockstar has officially named six regions that make up the state of Leonida. The descriptions below draw on official Rockstar materials — website copy, press releases and trailers — not leaks or community sources.
- Vice City — The dense urban core: a modern reimagining of Miami with beachfront art-deco architecture, neon nightlife, high-rises, Little Cuba, Little Haiti, Venetian Islands, and a major working port.
- Leonida Keys — A chain of small tropical islands at the state's southern tip, linked by long highway bridges over turquoise water. Designed around diving, saltwater fishing, and scenic coastal drives.
- Grassrivers — A vast subtropical wetland of swamps, marshes, cypress forests, and slow rivers — the Everglades analogue. Confirmed to feature hunting, fishing, and wildlife including alligators.
- Port Gellhorn — A declining coastal town with shuttered attractions and abandoned strip malls. Described as a place where a new economy — including the drug trade — has taken hold.
- Ambrosia — A rural sugar-belt community centred on the Allied Crystal sugar refinery, with conservative values and a local biker gang presence.
- Mount Kalaga National Park — A national park against the state's northern border, offering hunting, fishing, and off-road trails across mountainous terrain.
03GTA 6 map size in km (estimates)
Because Rockstar has released no official figure, the best available numbers for the GTA 6 map size square kilometers question — sometimes searched as GTA 6 map km2 or GTA VI map size in km — come from community mapping projects that measured distances using objects of known size (cars, buildings, road markings) visible in official trailers.
GTA 5's map is approximately 49–50 km² of continuous landmass. Red Dead Redemption 2 is similar at roughly 48–50 km². If the 125 km² community estimate holds, Leonida would be larger than both — though these numbers will only be verifiable once the game ships on November 19, 2026. Map scale is just one of the differences between the two games — our GTA 6 vs GTA 5 comparison covers protagonists, setting, and everything else that changes.
04Map size comparison at a glance
To put the estimates in context alongside past Rockstar titles:
- GTA 6 / Leonida — ~125 km² estimated landmass (not officially confirmed)
- Red Dead Redemption 2 — ~48–50 km² (widely cited community measure)
- GTA 5 / San Andreas — ~49–50 km² (widely cited community measure)
- GTA 4 / Liberty City — ~7 km² (much smaller, dense urban only)
It is worth noting that raw landmass does not tell the whole story. Vice City's urban density means travel times will feel different from the open ranch and prairie of RDR2, even if the two games were the same size on paper.
05Water, interiors & what's still unknown
Several details about the map's full scope are still not officially confirmed:
- Explorable interiors — Rockstar has shown interior locations in trailers, but the full scope of enterable buildings has not been confirmed.
- Water territory — The ocean and waterways surrounding Leonida will clearly be navigable, but whether any offshore areas contain islands or content beyond the Keys is unknown.
- Map unlock progression — Whether the full state is accessible from the start or unlocks during the story has not been confirmed.
- Exact district names within Vice City — Names like Ocean Beach and Little Cuba have appeared in official material, but a complete, official district list has not been published.
