How Much Storage Does Fortune's Weave Need on Switch 2?

Nintendo's Switch 2 storefront lists Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave at 29.5 GB, and that figure held through launch. Here is what that download size means in practice, what the day-one patch adds, and how to make sure your Switch 2 has room for it.

01Confirmed Download Size: 29.5 GB, Plus a 297 MB Day-One Patch

Nintendo's official U.S. store listing for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave shows a file size of 29.5 GB for the Switch 2 digital edition, and that figure matched what shipped at the September 17, 2026 launch — it didn't shift in the final build.

On top of the base install, a day-one update (version 1.0.1) adds roughly 297 MB. The patch is free for everyone, including players who preloaded, and its main addition is a set of extra classic Fire Emblem weapons obtainable during the story (including the Chosen Sword, Chosen Lance, and Breidablik from earlier Fire Emblem games, plus the Royal Sword from Fire Emblem Shadows) alongside general bug fixes. Budget roughly 29.8 GB total once the patch is applied.

That is still a large download by the standards of Nintendo's own first-party output — Fortune's Weave's expanded scope, with four playable routes, full voice acting in two languages, and a large explorable world, plausibly explains the bigger footprint compared to earlier handheld-era Fire Emblem titles.

02Switch 2's Storage: 256 GB Internal, microSD Express Only

Nintendo Switch 2 ships with 256 GB of internal storage, described by Nintendo as eight times the base storage of the original Switch. A 29.5 GB install for Fortune's Weave takes up roughly 11–12% of that internal capacity on its own — manageable, but worth factoring in if you already have several other large Switch 2 titles installed.

If you need to expand beyond the built-in 256 GB, Switch 2 only supports microSD Express cards — the older microSD/microSDHC/microSDXC cards used by the original Switch are not compatible. Nintendo's support documentation is explicit that Switch 2 requires the newer Express standard for the faster read/write speeds current-generation games need, and microSD Express cards are sold separately from the console. If you are upgrading from an original Switch, your old memory card will not work in the Switch 2 and cannot be used to store or run Fortune's Weave.

03Digital vs Physical — Does It Change Storage Needs?

Fortune's Weave shipped at three purchase tiers: a $69.99 digital edition, an $79.99 physical cartridge edition, and a $119.99 Dagdan Collection special edition bundling art cards, a map, an art book, and a steelbook alongside the base game.

Physical cartridge buyers need the same day-one patch as digital buyers — the cartridge ships with an earlier build, and the 297 MB update applies regardless of which edition you bought. Budget for the full 29.5 GB base install plus the patch no matter which edition you buy.
