WARDOGS Forward Spawn & Squads Getting to the Fight Faster
In WARDOGS you normally respawn at your faction's HQ, far from the Control Zone. The way to skip the long trip is a forward spawn: your faction's armored spawn vehicle, parked near the objective, shows up as a deployment option on the HQ Deployment Board. This guide covers how to use it, why the option is often missing, and how to form a squad and get into the same match as your friends. Details are from the Early Access build (Update 0.1.2); guides disagree on a few points, which are flagged, and Season 02 starts on 15 October, so trust the in-game board over any number here.
01The Short Version
- HQ is the default spawn. A forward spawn is a separate option on the Deployment Board, not a FOB.
- The forward spawn is a vehicle. It is an armored spawn vehicle (guides call it the M113 APC SV) that must be sitting in the Control Zone.
- It unlocks by score. Guides say the vehicle becomes available once any faction reaches 20 match points.
- Squads are made in-match. Press Esc, choose Create Squad. There is no party or lobby to queue as a group.
- Friends join through the same server. Join the same server and the same faction, then squad up.
02How to Spawn at the Front
The steps are the same in every guide we checked (allthings.how, ExpCarry):
- At your HQ, open the Deployment Board (the laptop terminal next to the loadout and shop terminals) with the interact key.
- Pick your faction's forward deployment point on the map. This is the spawn vehicle, so it only appears if your faction has one active.
- Press SPAWN and wait through the "WAITING TO DEPLOY" countdown. You appear inside the vehicle.
- Exit the vehicle and move out. Do not stay parked inside it; a spawn point is only useful while it survives.
ExpCarry advises checking where the vehicle actually is before you choose it. A forward spawn is worth using when it sits near living teammates and a defensible part of the zone, and a poor choice when the area is collapsing and you would just die on arrival over and over.
03Why the Forward Spawn Option Is Missing
If you open the board and cannot find a forward spawn, one of these is almost always the reason:
- No vehicle yet. ExpCarry and BisectHosting both say the spawn vehicle only appears after any faction reaches 20 match points. Early in a match there is nothing to deploy to.
- The vehicle is not in the Control Zone. allthings.how reports the board refuses the option with a "spawn vehicle is not in the control zone" message while it is still at base.
- A score or cooldown requirement. One guide describes a minimum score and a personal reuse timer shown on the board. The numbers come from pre-release play and are single-source, so read the on-screen values rather than trusting a figure from a guide.
- You are looking at a FOB. Standing near a friendly FOB on the deployment map does nothing for your respawn; guides agree a FOB is a logistics and construction position, not a spawn.
For what a FOB does instead, see the towers, FOBs and logistics guide.
04Getting the Spawn Vehicle Into Position
Someone on your faction has to put the vehicle where the fight is. That job pays: BisectHosting says the driver earns cash for every player who spawns on the APC, plus cash for those players' kills.
- Park it near the Hot Zone, under cover. BisectHosting suggests placing it under a roof or tower so mortars do not hit it. The Hot Zone moves, so be ready to relocate. See the Control Zone and Hot Zone guide for how it moves.
- Guard it. allthings.how warns that an unattended spawn vehicle can be hacked by enemies and used against your faction. This is a single-source warning, but it is cheap to respect.
- Expect it to be contested. If it is destroyed or taken, your faction loses its forward spawn until another is available.
The guides disagree on where the vehicle comes from: allthings.how says your team builds it with the building tools and supplies, while ExpCarry says every faction receives one at HQ when any faction hits 20 points. Both agree it has to be driven or moved into the Control Zone. Treat the source as unconfirmed and watch what your own faction does.
05How to Create and Join a Squad
Squads are formed inside a match, not before it, and only within your own faction (allthings.how):
- Press Esc while in a match. The squad list is on this screen, not on the Tab screen.
- Click CREATE SQUAD. The game gives the squad a NATO-style callsign and you become its leader.
- Optionally use the lock icon to make it invite-only. Otherwise teammates can click JOIN SQUAD themselves.
- For a locked squad, the leader picks players from the unassigned list and sends an invite. Others see REQUEST TO JOIN instead.
The guides do not state a maximum squad size, so do not plan around a specific number. If a join fails, allthings.how suggests the leader disbands and recreates the squad, then you rejoin.
Squadmates are also the people to spawn near and revive. allthings.how says squadmates show in gold on the minimap and as gold revive markers, which other teammates do not.
06Playing With Friends
allthings.how states that WARDOGS has no party, lobby or group queue, and that none had been announced. That guide gives two routes into the same match:
- Steam Join Game (fastest). One friend joins a server, picks a faction and fully loads in, then creates an open squad. Everyone else right-clicks that friend in the Steam friends list and chooses Join Game.
- Manual. Agree on a region and exact server number first, then use the Deploy server browser, find that row and join. A full server shows 100/100; stay in the queue as slots open. Confirm the faction with your group before anyone locks in.
Check your faction before you spawn. If the faction is full you can land on another one, and fighting your friends is the usual result of a rushed pick. Use CHANGE TEAM when a slot opens.
07Voice Chat: Squad or Proximity?
Steam's store text describes proximity-based voice chat as a feature. allthings.how additionally describes a private squad channel running next to proximity chat and advises keeping rotations and flank calls there. The site's error and crash-fix guide notes that the store page only confirms the proximity channel.
Until you have tested it in your own match, assume that anything you say on proximity chat can be heard by enemies standing near you.
08Where Guides Disagree
- Where the spawn vehicle comes from: built by your faction (allthings.how) versus granted at HQ once a faction hits 20 points (ExpCarry).
- Cooldown and cost: one guide gives a rough reuse timer and a small cash cost from pre-release play; others do not mention either. No figure is confirmed for the current build.
- Squad voice channel: described by allthings.how, not confirmed by the Steam store text.
- Season 02 (15 October): may change spawn rules and the UI. This page will be refreshed after the update.
FAQ
How do you forward spawn in WARDOGS?
Open the Deployment Board at your HQ, pick your faction's forward deployment point (the spawn vehicle sitting in the Control Zone) and press SPAWN. After the "waiting to deploy" countdown you appear inside the vehicle.
Why can't I forward spawn in WARDOGS?
Usually because your faction has no spawn vehicle yet (guides say it appears once any faction reaches 20 match points) or because the vehicle is not inside the Control Zone. A score or cooldown requirement on the board can also block it.
Is a FOB a spawn point in WARDOGS?
No. Guides agree a FOB is a logistics and construction position. Forward spawning comes from the armored spawn vehicle, not the FOB.
How do you create a squad in WARDOGS?
Press Esc in a match and click CREATE SQUAD. You become leader, can lock the squad to invite-only, and teammates on your faction can join from the same screen.
How do you play with friends in WARDOGS?
There is no party or lobby. Have one friend join a server and faction, then the others use Steam's Join Game on that friend or pick the same region and server number manually, choose the same faction and form a squad in-match.
How many players are in a WARDOGS squad?
The guides we checked do not state a maximum squad size, so there is no confirmed number. Check the squad screen in your own match.
Can enemies steal the spawn vehicle?
One guide warns that an unattended spawn vehicle can be hacked and turned against its faction. This is single-source, so keep it guarded.
