WARDOGS Best Loadouts After the Season 2 Price Changes
The best WARDOGS loadout is a reliable rifle with armor, medical gear and a backpack you can afford to lose — not the most expensive gun you can buy. Season 2 (Update 0.2.0, live October 15, 2026) reshuffled vendor prices and weapon unlocks across the board: the AK74 is now the free starting rifle, while the T-21 that used to fill that role now costs a $10,000 unlock fee on top of a higher price. Every number below comes from BULKHEAD's own patch notes, not from third-party guides that haven't caught up yet.
01The Rule Behind Every Good Loadout
WARDOGS has no class-select screen: whatever you buy at the vendor is your role for that life (see Classes & Progression Explained). Your cash balance persists between matches, and a kit you lose on death isn't coming back. So the real question is not "what is the strongest gun" but "what can I lose three times in a row and still afford to play?"
02What Season 2 Changed (Read This First)
BULKHEAD's Season 2 patch notes list exact vendor price and unlock changes. The ones that matter for a budget loadout:
- AK74: now unlocked by default — no WARDOG level or unlock fee needed — and its price was cut from $1,600 to $800.
- T-21: the opposite move. It used to be the free starting rifle; now it needs WARDOG level 3 and a $10,000 unlock fee, and its vendor price doubled from $600 to $1,200.
- FAL: vendor price dropped slightly, $6,500 → $6,000, but its unlock fee rose from $200,000 to $250,000. A Season 2 damage pass cut .308 Winchester base damage by 25%, though BULKHEAD says the FAL still deals the most damage per shot of any assault rifle, just by a smaller margin than before.
- Super-45: price more than doubled, $2,600 → $5,600, and its damage fall-off beyond 50m was increased — the patch notes call it a dedicated close-quarters gun now, not a budget all-rounder.
- M4: unlock moved from level 20 to level 28 and its unlock fee rose from $100,000 to $150,000 (the new TCX-SPR took its old unlock slot). BULKHEAD hasn't said whether the vendor buy price itself changed.
- PKM: unlocks at Support level 15 instead of 30, and its price dropped from $4,500 to $4,100 — genuinely cheaper and earlier this season.
- Backpacks: Ruck Backpack $2,400 → $1,600, Gunner Backpack + Sling $3,500 → $2,400, Arsenal Backpack + 2 Slings $5,000 → $4,000.
- Medical gear: the Medical Bag now unlocks at level 14 instead of 24 and dropped from $2,000 to $1,800; the Field Resuscitator (a paid item, not a free starter) dropped from $500 to $425.
03Budget Tiers at a Glance
Prices and unlocks below are straight from BULKHEAD's Season 2 patch notes. Early Access prices can change again, so check the vendor before you commit.
- Eco (free unlock, $800 rifle): AK74 — unlocked from the start, no level or fee. Pair with armor, a Ruck Backpack ($1,600) and medical gear.
- Early unlock ($1,200 rifle + $10,000 fee): T-21 — now needs WARDOG level 3 and a one-time unlock fee, so there's little reason to prioritize it over the free AK74.
- Support ($4,100): PKM — cheaper and available earlier (Support level 15) than before Season 2.
- Close quarters ($5,600): Super-45 — now a dedicated short-range gun per the patch notes, not a budget pick.
- Long range ($6,000 rifle + $250,000 fee): FAL — still the hardest-hitting assault rifle on paper, but a bigger unlock investment than before.
04A Solid Starter Kit (AK74)
Since Season 2 the AK74 is the default rifle, so this is the cheapest kit to get into:
- AK74 ($800, no unlock needed) with whatever attachments you've already unlocked on the Assault track.
- Armor you can afford — see the ammo types & armor guide for current tier prices.
- Ruck Backpack ($1,600, down from $2,400 this season) for extra carry room.
- Medical Bag ($1,800, Support/Medic level 14) and a Field Resuscitator ($425) — neither is free, but both are cheap relative to the kit.
Upgrade order: backpack and medical gear first, since both got cheaper this season, then armor, then weapon attachments.
05When to Spend More
Move up only when income is steady — transport, recon, FOB building and revives all pay without kills (see the Money Guide). A reasonable trigger: you could lose the new kit and still re-buy your cheap one.
- Buy the FAL when the map has open sightlines and you can cover both the $250,000 unlock fee and the risk of losing a $6,000 kit.
- Buy the PKM when your squad is holding a point or FOB — Season 2 made it both cheaper and available earlier.
- Keep medical gear in every tier. It's cheap even after this season's changes, and a revive pays for itself in squad cash.
06Common Loadout Mistakes
- Buying a premium rifle with no armor or medical gear left in the budget.
- Spending your whole balance on one kit, then dying in the first minute.
- Skipping the Medical Bag and Field Resuscitator to save a few hundred dollars — both got cheaper in Season 2, not pricier.
- Never upgrading the backpack, even though Ruck, Gunner and Arsenal backpacks all dropped in price this season.
FAQ
What is the best loadout in WARDOGS?
Since Season 2, an AK74 ($800, unlocked by default) with whatever armor you can afford, a Ruck Backpack and basic medical gear. It's cheap enough to re-buy every life.
What is the best beginner weapon in WARDOGS?
The AK74. Season 2 made it the default starting rifle — no WARDOG level or unlock fee — and cut its vendor price from $1,600 to $800.
How much does the FAL cost in WARDOGS?
As of Season 2, $6,000 to buy and $250,000 to unlock (down from $6,500 to buy, up from $200,000 to unlock before the patch).
Do I keep my loadout money when I die in WARDOGS?
BULKHEAD's patch notes treat a lost kit as gone — cash spent on it isn't refunded. Your overall cash balance persists between matches, but the kit itself does not survive your death.
What's the cheapest backpack upgrade in WARDOGS?
The Ruck Backpack, which Season 2 dropped from $2,400 to $1,600. The Gunner Backpack + Sling ($2,400, down from $3,500) and Arsenal Backpack + 2 Slings ($4,000, down from $5,000) hold more for more cash; BULKHEAD hasn't published their exact slot counts.
