Sims 4: How to Make Money Fast (Cheats & Legit)

Whether you want instant simoleons or an honest fortune, The Sims 4 gives you both. This guide splits the fastest money into two paths — the cheat route for players who just want to build, and the legit route built on skills and careers that can out-earn any salary once mastered.

01The Fast Way: Money Cheats

If you only want money to fund a build or a family, cheats are instant. Open the console (Ctrl+Shift+C on PC, Cmd+Shift+C on Mac, all four shoulder buttons held together on console):

• motherlode — adds §50,000; enter it repeatedly to stack. Works instantly, no setup needed.
• rosebud / kaching — each add §1,000. Also work with no setup.
• money [number] — sets funds to an exact amount, e.g. money 500000. This one requires typing testingcheats true first.
• freerealestate on — with testingcheats true enabled and the Manage Worlds/world map view open, move into any empty house for free.

The catch: only cheats that require testingcheats true flag the save as cheated and disable achievements for that session — so money and freerealestate do, but motherlode, rosebud, and kaching don't. If achievements matter to you, stick to those three, or use the legit methods below.

02Best Legit Money Skills

The real money in The Sims 4 is in skills, not salaries. A maxed creative skill produces items or royalties that dwarf an entry-level paycheck:

• Painting: the classic earner. Level up the Painting skill, then sell large masterpieces — high-level paintings sell for thousands each, and the Painter Extraordinaire aspiration adds value bonuses.
• Writing: write and publish books for royalties that pay out daily for about three weeks — roughly §10-50/day for a normal book up to §100-300+/day for an excellent one. At Writing level 5, switch to Sell to Publisher for around 50% more per book than self-publishing. A library of bestsellers becomes solid passive income that arrives every morning.
• Programming: create and sell apps and games (or take freelance gigs via the Computer once Programming hits level 5) — high Programming skill produces software with strong recurring royalties.
• Gardening: grow and graft rare plants such as Dragon Fruit — Excellent-quality harvests sell for far more than common crops, and a large garden becomes daily income. (The Death Flower itself barely sells on its own; its real value is turning it into Nectar, covered below.)

Pick one skill and commit — the income curve is steep, so a maxed skill earns far more per day than spreading effort across several.

03Side Hustles & Crafting Income

Several packs add craft-and-sell loops that pay well once skilled:

• Woodworking: with the Handiness skill and a woodworking table, build and sell furniture for a steady daily income.
• Nectar making (Horse Ranch): aged nectar bottles sell for premium prices — one of the highest-ceiling crafting incomes in the game.
• Flower arranging, candle making, and fabrication from various packs all follow the same skill-up-then-sell pattern.
• Collecting: hunt frogs, crystals, metals, and space rocks early on — selling collectibles is a reliable cash source before any skill is high.

04Best Careers for a Steady Salary

If you prefer a regular paycheck, a few tracks top out especially high. Style Influencer (Stylist or Trend Setter branch) and Secret Agent (Diamond Agent or Villain branch — the top Villain rank pays around §12,875/week) are strong base-game picks, and Actor pays well once your Sim is famous but requires the Get Famous expansion. Exact top salaries shift with patches and packs, so treat any 'highest paying career' list as a snapshot, not a permanent ranking.

• Freelancer: no fixed hours — earn by completing gigs on your own schedule; great alongside a money skill.
• Active careers (Doctor, Detective, Scientist) let you control the workday and earn performance bonuses.
• Keep your Sim in a good mood and meet the daily task and skill requirements to get promoted faster.
• Speed it up with careers.promote [careername] if you are comfortable using cheats.
