KCD2 Legacy of the Forge DLC Guide How to start it, Prestige, and the forge questline

Updated September 20269 min readBy

Legacy of the Forge is the second story expansion for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and it takes Henry in a different direction than the base game or Brushes with Death — instead of another string of combat quests, it hands him his adoptive father Martin's old forge in Kuttenberg and asks him to rebuild it into a working blacksmith's business. This guide covers how to unlock the DLC, what the new Prestige system actually does, how forge rebuilding and commissions work, and what the main questline covers.

01How to Start Legacy of the Forge

Legacy of the Forge unlocks after Henry completes the main story quest "Speak of the Devil" in Kuttenberg — you need to be far enough into the Kuttenberg chapter of the main campaign for that quest to be available, but you do not need to finish the entire main story first.

Once unlocked, a purple quest icon appears on the map in eastern Kuttenberg, near the pond used for laundry and the Hole in the Wall tavern. The marker sits at a run-down, boarded-up building — interact with it to trigger the opening scene, in which residents who knew Martin explain what happened to his old forge and Henry gets permission to start rebuilding it.

You don't need a high Blacksmithing or Craftsmanship skill to take on the DLC. Only a couple of quests in the entire expansion require Henry to personally use the forging minigame; most of the blacksmithing work can be delegated to hired staff once your workshop is running, so a character built for combat or stealth can still play through the whole storyline.

02The Prestige System, Explained

Prestige is the new progression stat introduced specifically for this DLC, and it runs alongside — not instead of — your regular Groschen income. Where the base game gates upgrades behind money and skill levels, Legacy of the Forge gates most of its forge upgrades, decorations, and advanced features behind Prestige instead.

Practically, this means you can't just buy your way through the DLC's forge upgrades with a large Groschen stockpile from the main game — you need to actually run commissions and complete quests to unlock the later tiers, even if money isn't a constraint.

03Rebuilding and Running the Forge

The core loop of the DLC is equal parts questline and light management sim. Henry's forge has a workspace plus adjacent private quarters, and both can be customized extensively — the customization system offers over 100 million combinations once you count every furniture, layout, and decoration choice.

04The Main Questline

The story follows Henry uncovering what happened to Martin's forge and his legacy in Kuttenberg, opening with the quest Adept and building toward a final quest, The Last Step, which wraps up the Martin's Legacy arc. Named quests along the way include Magdalena's Axe, Klaus' Introduction (which unlocks the daily Guild Quests), Martin's Dream, and Old Plans, interspersed with the repeatable Guild Activities described above.

Sources differ on exactly how many of these count as "main" quests versus side content tied to the Blacksmiths' Guild, since several blend directly into the Prestige grind rather than standing apart from it — but the throughline from Adept to The Last Step is consistent across walkthroughs, and completing it is what resolves Henry's arc with his adoptive father's memory.

05Notable Rewards

Beyond Groschen and Prestige, the questline hands out several unique items tied specifically to this DLC, including the Heirloom Sword, a joke weapon called Fakescalibur, and St. George's Sword, along with a set of Kuttenberg-themed armor pieces unique to the forge storyline. Completing the DLC to its final quest is also tied to its own set of trophies/achievements, separate from the base game's list.

FAQ

How do I start Legacy of the Forge in KCD2?

Complete the main story quest "Speak of the Devil" in Kuttenberg, then look for a purple quest icon on the map in eastern Kuttenberg, near the Hole in the Wall tavern. Interact with the boarded-up building there to begin the opening quest, Adept.

What is Prestige in the Legacy of the Forge DLC?

Prestige is a reputation stat unique to this DLC that tracks how well-regarded Henry's rebuilt forge is in Kuttenberg. It's earned by completing commissions, quests, and daily Guild Quests, and it gates most forge upgrades, decorations, staff hires, and advanced blueprints — separately from Groschen, so you can't just buy your way past it.

Do I need high Blacksmithing skill to play Legacy of the Forge?

No. Only a couple of quests in the entire DLC require Henry to personally use the forging minigame. Once the forge is running, most blacksmithing tasks can be delegated to hired staff, so combat- or stealth-focused characters can still complete the full questline.

Can I play Legacy of the Forge after finishing the main story?

Yes. The DLC remains accessible after the main campaign ends, as long as you've completed the "Speak of the Devil" quest that unlocks it in Kuttenberg.

What quests are in the Legacy of the Forge main storyline?

The questline opens with Adept and closes with The Last Step, with named quests including Magdalena's Axe, Klaus' Introduction, Martin's Dream, and Old Plans along the way, plus repeatable Blacksmiths' Guild activities that continue after the story quests are done.
