GTA 6 has already slipped twice, so it doesn't take much for a new delay rumor to spread — and in August 2026, "GTA 6 delayed to 2027" started circulating again. Here's what's actually behind it, and what Rockstar and Take-Two have said.

01Short Answer: No, Not Officially

As of this writing, GTA 6 has not been delayed to 2027. Rockstar's currently confirmed release date is November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There has been no Rockstar Newswire post, no Take-Two press release, and no earnings-call statement announcing a change to that date.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the speculation directly around the company's fiscal Q1 2027 earnings report on August 7, 2026. His shareholder letter described fiscal 2027 as having "the potential to be a major inflection point" for Take-Two, driven by "the planned November 19th release of Grand Theft Auto VI" — language that only makes sense if the company is still planning to ship the game within that fiscal year. Take-Two also reiterated fiscal 2027 net bookings guidance of $8.0–$8.2 billion, a forecast that is built around GTA 6 launching on schedule.

02Where the 2027 Rumors Actually Came From

The "delayed to 2027" chatter isn't coming from one credible leak — it's three separate, weaker threads that got blended together:

• An anonymous 4chan post claimed Rockstar and Take-Two were about to announce a shift to February 2027 during an upcoming earnings call. No such announcement happened.
• A viral post attributed to a parody account claimed Rockstar had pushed the release to May 25, 2027. X's Community Notes flagged the claim as unsubstantiated within a short time of it spreading, and no legitimate outlet traced it back to an official source.
• Former Rockstar developer Mike York, a former GTA 5 animator, said in comments picked up by gaming press in early August 2026 that he "would not be shocked at all" if GTA 6 slipped roughly six months, to around May 2027, if something like a buggy mission forced Rockstar's hand: "They'll push it six more months if they have to." York was explicit that he no longer works at Rockstar and has no inside knowledge of the game's current status — he was describing a hypothetical based on his general experience at the studio, not reporting a leak.

None of these three sources are Rockstar, Take-Two, or a named person with current access to the game's development status.

03Take-Two Has a Pattern of Knocking These Down Directly

This isn't the first delay-adjacent rumor Take-Two has had to address. Earlier in 2026, a separate rumor claimed GTA 6's physical edition specifically might ship weeks or months after the digital version to reduce leak risk. Asked about it directly, Zelnick told Variety: "That's not the plan."

That's a different claim from a full 2027 delay of the whole game, and it's worth noting Zelnick's answer addressed timing specifically — when Ultimate Edition pre-orders later went live, the "physical" version turned out to ship as a download code rather than a disc, which some outlets flagged as a technically-true-but-misleading answer to a related question. Still, it shows the pattern: when a delay rumor names a specific claim, Take-Two's leadership responds with a direct, on-record statement rather than staying silent, and no comparable statement has walked back the November 19, 2026 date.

04Why People Are Primed to Believe It Anyway

The 2027 rumors keep finding an audience because GTA 6 really has been delayed twice already: from an original Fall 2025 window to May 26, 2026, then from May 2026 to the current November 19, 2026 date.
