Genshin Impact Talent Book Farming Guide: Domain Schedule, Boss Materials & Priority

Updated July 20269 min readBy the HowToPlayHub team

Raising character talents is one of the highest-impact investments in Genshin Impact — the jump from talent level 6 to 10 on a main DPS can add 30–50% damage output. The system runs on three material types: talent books from rotating Domains of Mastery, weekly boss drops for levels 7–10, and a Crown of Insight for the final level cap. This guide covers the full day-by-day domain schedule across all regions, the exact book counts for every talent level, which weekly bosses drop which materials, and how to route your resin efficiently as an F2P player.

01The Two Material Categories You Need

Every character talent has two distinct material gates. Levels 1–6 require only talent books (Teachings, Guides, and Philosophies) and a handful of common enemy drops — materials you can farm any day you have resin. Levels 7–10 add a third ingredient: weekly boss drops, unique materials that only come from Trounce Domains and reset once per week.

Understanding this split matters for planning: you can stack talent books long before a character even reaches level 60, but weekly boss materials require consistent weekly runs over many weeks. A fully crowned talent — all the way to level 10 — also demands one Crown of Insight, a very rare resource awarded through limited-time events. Never waste a Crown on a non-priority talent.

02Total Materials: The Full Count from Level 1 to 10

Before you start farming, know your destination. Taking a single talent from level 1 to level 10 consumes the following, verified against community calculators and the in-game talent menu:

To triple-crown a character — maxing all three combat talents — multiply: 9 Teachings, 63 Guides, 114 Philosophies, 18 weekly boss materials, and 3 Crowns. Triple-crowning is a long-term goal reserved for the characters you play in every team. For most players, bringing one or two key talents to level 9 or 10 is enough — the Crown requirement is the real bottleneck.

Practically speaking, the weekly boss materials are the slowest grind. At a guaranteed minimum of 2 drops per run (World Level 8), you need at least 3 weeks of consistent boss farming per talent. Plan to build a material stockpile for characters you know you want to invest in before you even unlock their talent domain.

03The Domain Schedule: Which Books Drop on Which Day

All Domains of Mastery share the same three-day rotation: Group A opens Monday and Thursday, Group B on Tuesday and Friday, Group C on Wednesday and Saturday. On Sunday, every domain offers all three of its book series simultaneously — the most flexible farming day of the week if you need a specific type that your usual schedule missed.

The schedule below covers all seven regions current as of Natlan and Nod-Krai. New regions add new domains but do not change the existing rotation. Always cross-check the in-game Adventure Book calendar (tap the compass icon in the top-right menu) for the live daily schedule, especially if a new region has recently launched.

Forsaken Rift — Mondstadt (northwest of Springvale)

Taishan Mansion — Liyue (Jueyun Karst, south of Liyue Harbor)

Violet Court — Inazuma (island between Narukami and Kannazuka)

Steeple of Ignorance — Sumeru (east of Vanarana)

Pale Forgotten Glory — Fontaine (Beryl region)

Blazing Ruins — Natlan (Natlan Lowlands) and Lightless Capital — Nod-Krai

Note: character-to-book assignments for Natlan and Nod-Krai characters expand with each update. Always verify your specific character's required book in their in-game profile (Character → Talents → tap any Talent → required materials shown at bottom).

04Weekly Boss Talent Materials: Who Drops What

Weekly bosses — called Trounce Domains — reset every Monday at 4:00 AM server time. The first three reward claims each week cost only 30 resin each instead of the standard 60, making them mandatory weekly stops. Each boss drops three variants of its unique material; all three variants count toward talent upgrades, so you cannot farm the wrong one.

Stormterror Dvalin (Liyue Border, Mondstadt side)

Andrius — Wolf of the North (Wolvendom, Mondstadt)

Tartaglia — Childe (Golden House, Liyue)

Azhdaha (Beneath the Dragon-Queller, Liyue)

La Signora (Tenshukaku, Inazuma)

Raiden Shogun (Tenshukaku, Inazuma — replaced La Signora post-story)

Newer bosses (Sumeru onward): Guardian of Apep's Oasis, Shouki no Kami (Scaramouche), All-Devouring Narwhal, The Knave (Arlecchino), and bosses added in Natlan and Nod-Krai each drop their own exclusive materials for the characters released alongside them. The exact material names expand with every update — consult the in-game Trounce Domain screen or the Teyvat Interactive Map to confirm which boss drops what for newly released characters.

Dream Solvent: This rare item, which drops from all weekly bosses at a fixed 33% rate, lets you convert any weekly boss material into another variant from the same boss (e.g. Dvalin's Plume into Dvalin's Claw). It does not work across bosses. Save Dream Solvents for situations where you have an excess of one variant and zero of another — do not spend them speculatively.

05Which Talents to Level First: Priority Framework

Not every talent on every character is worth capping. Leveling the wrong skill wastes books and weekly boss materials that are better spent on your highest-priority carries. Use this framework before you spend anything.

Rule 1: Main DPS damage talents first. If a character's primary source of damage is their Normal Attack, level that first. If it is an Elemental Skill or Burst, prioritize the higher-scaling one. Examples:

Rule 2: Support Bursts are often worth leveling. Burst-support characters like Bennett and Xingqiu provide damage buffs or heals that scale with talent level. Bennett's Burst heal and ATK buff both scale with its level — a common oversight that costs teams meaningful power.

Rule 3: Leave low-priority skills at level 6 or below. Characters who only appear for one Elemental Skill tap or who deal negligible personal damage (many Anemo groupers, shield bots like Zhongli) rarely need talent levels above 6. The jump from 6 to 7 requires a weekly boss material — save those for your carries.

Rule 4: Triple-crown only when you are sure. Crown-capping every talent on a character costs 3 Crowns. You get Crowns only through major events (typically 1–2 per version). Use them on your most-played characters' most-used skills; never triple-crown an off-meta pick or a character you are not certain you will use long-term.

06Efficient Resin Routing for F2P Players

With 20 resin per domain run and roughly 160 resin available daily, every F2P player can run about 8 domain clears per day — or 4 if using Condensed Resin, which doubles the drops per run and halves time in loading screens. Here is how to route those runs efficiently for talent farming.

Step 1: Lock in your three weekly bosses first. The discounted weekly boss claims (30 resin each, 90 total per week) are the best resin value in the game. Run all three before any other investment. You need these boss materials for every talent above level 6 on every character, so banking them early means you are never held back by the weekly timer when a character finally reaches the books stage.

Step 2: Identify which days your target characters need. Check each priority character's required book series and note which days their domain is open. Try to batch characters who share a day — for example, if you are farming for both Hu Tao and Xiangling, both use Diligence books, both available Tuesday and Friday from Taishan Mansion. Two characters, same run.

Step 3: Use Condensed Resin on domain runs. Each Condensed Resin condenses two 20-resin domain runs into one action at the cost of 40 Original Resin, 1 Crystal Core, and 100 Mora. The drop count doubles. For any domain you plan to visit repeatedly, always convert to Condensed Resin first (craft at any Crafting Bench). Keep 5 stocked at all times during active talent farming.

Step 4: Use Sundays for flexibility. Sunday is the one day every domain unlocks all three of its book series simultaneously. Use Sundays to catch up on a book type you missed earlier in the week, or to farm a character who needs books from two different series (rare, but some characters' three skills pull from two different regions).

Step 5: Stockpile books ahead of time. You know from pull planning which characters you will build in upcoming banners. Farm their talent books in advance. Books sit in your inventory with no expiry — building a stack of 30+ Philosophies before a character arrives means you can rush their talents immediately on release, before every other player depletes the same domain on banner week.

07Quick-Reference Summary

For players who want the compact version:

Always verify your character's required materials directly in-game under Character → Talents → the Talent icon — new patches add characters with new book assignments, and the in-game interface reflects the current version immediately.

FAQ

Which days can I farm talent books in Genshin Impact?

Talent book domains rotate on a three-day cycle: Group A books are available Monday and Thursday, Group B on Tuesday and Friday, and Group C on Wednesday and Saturday. On Sunday, all three book series are available from every Domain of Mastery simultaneously. The server resets at 4:00 AM local server time, so Monday resets at 4:00 AM Monday morning. Check the in-game Adventure Book calendar (compass icon, top right) for the live daily selection.

How many talent books do I need to max a single talent?

Taking one talent from level 1 to level 10 requires 3 Teachings (2-star), 21 Guides (3-star), and 38 Philosophies (4-star), plus 6 weekly boss materials, 1 Crown of Insight, and 1,652,500 Mora. If you want to triple-crown a character — all three talents to level 10 — you need 9 Teachings, 63 Guides, 114 Philosophies, 18 weekly boss materials, and 3 Crowns. Crown of Insight is the hardest bottleneck since it only comes from limited-time events.

What are weekly boss talent materials and where do I get them?

Weekly boss talent materials are unique items that unlock talent levels 7 through 10. Each Trounce Domain (weekly boss) drops three variants of its own exclusive material — for example, Stormterror Dvalin drops Dvalin's Plume, Dvalin's Claw, and Dvalin's Sigh. You can only claim the discounted reward (30 resin instead of 60) three times per week before costs double. Every character needs 6 total weekly boss materials for a fully maxed talent. Dream Solvent lets you convert between the three variants from the same boss.

Should I level all three talents on every character?

No — prioritise the one or two talents that drive the most damage or utility. For main DPS characters whose kit revolves around one skill (Raiden Shogun's Burst, Ganyu's Burst), max that talent first and consider leaving the others at level 6. For support characters like Bennett, the Elemental Burst is the only talent worth pushing high. The weekly boss material cost for levels 7–10 makes leveling every talent equally very expensive — focus resin on your actual damage sources.

Can I farm talent books on a day when my character's domain is closed?

No — each book series is tied to a specific pair of weekdays and can only be obtained from its Domain of Mastery on those days, or on Sunday. You cannot substitute books across series (a Teachings of Freedom cannot become a Teachings of Resistance). Use Sunday as a makeup day if you missed your target earlier in the week, or plan ahead and farm the next available day pair. Sunday is also useful when a character needs books from two different regions.
