Genshin Impact Snezhnaya Region Guide Unlock & Overview
Snezhnaya — home of the Tsaritsa and the Fatui, and the last of Teyvat's seven playable nations — finally opened on August 12, 2026 with version 7.0. It's the biggest region drop since Natlan, with a new frozen-continent layout, a new survival gadget, and a firearms-based combat mode unlike anything else in the game. Here's how to get in and what you'll find once you do. Pair this with our banner schedule guide if you're also tracking the 7.0 character lineup.
01How to Unlock Snezhnaya
Snezhnaya opens up by progressing through the version 7.0 Archon Quest line — once you reach the relevant story beat, a teleport waypoint for the region is added to your map automatically, and you don't need to physically travel there overland through other nations.
The story quest also hands you the Eye of Graeae, a new traversal gadget built specifically for Snezhnaya. Without it, don't expect to get far: the region's extreme cold will freeze and kill your party if you try to explore unprotected.
You don't need to have finished every other nation's Archon Quest first — Snezhnaya's own quest chapter is the gate, not the rest of Teyvat's story.
02The Eye of Graeae Gadget
The Eye of Graeae is Snezhnaya's answer to Fontaine's diving gear or Natlan's Fire Turret — a region-specific tool built around a resource called Kresnik Energy. It does three things:
- Cold resistance: protects you from the region's environmental hazard so you can actually explore instead of taking constant damage.
- Puzzle-solving: interacts with Prime Ice Constructs scattered around the region, Snezhnaya's version of an exploration puzzle mechanic.
- Shadow Realm access: unlocks a firearm-based combat mode inside a special instanced space called the Shadow Realm — a genuine third-person shooting mode with customizable guns, a first for Genshin.
Keep an eye on your Kresnik Energy meter while exploring exposed terrain — running out in the wrong spot is what triggers the freeze mechanic.
03The Region's Major Areas
Snezhnaya's map is split into several named areas, each with a distinct feel:
- Everfrozen Earth — the central hub and home to Snezhnograd, the regional capital. This is where you'll find the Korolevskiy Theater, the Fatui's headquarters, and the Northland Bank's main branch — Snezhnaya's answer to a big story-relevant city.
- Flamefeather Valley — an underground zone with a distinctly warmer, autumn-toned biome despite being buried under a frozen region. Several points of interest here are only reachable in the Shadow Realm's third-person mode.
- White Birch Snowgrave — tied to Snezhnaya's older lore and the region's original Cryo Archon, with its own set of exploration-driven world quests.
- Additional zones round out the rest of the frozen continent, with harsher terrain and fewer settlements the further you get from Snezhnograd.
A dedicated train and railway system also connects Snezhnaya's major points, giving you a faster way to move between the capital and outlying areas once you've explored enough to unlock the stops.
04What to Do First
- Finish the Eye of Graeae's introductory quest before wandering off the marked path. The cold mechanic is unforgiving, and most of the region is unsafe without it.
- Explore Snezhnograd first. As the capital, it's the hub for the region's shops, Adventurer's Guild services, and story-relevant NPCs — a good base before pushing into harsher outlying zones.
- Try the Shadow Realm early if you're curious about the new combat mode — it's a genuinely different gameplay loop from standard elemental combat and worth seeing regardless of your team composition.
- Collect regional currency as you go rather than saving it for later — like every prior nation, Snezhnaya has its own set of collectibles tied to Statue of the Seven upgrades, and they're easiest to pick up while you're already exploring an area for the story.
