Enshrouded Craftspeople & Survivors How to Unlock Them All

In Enshrouded every craftsperson is a survivor sleeping in a stasis pod inside an Ancient Vault: you reach the vault, get past its traps, wake the survivor, then bring them home with a Summoning Staff placed inside your Flame Altar area. The Blacksmith comes first and hands you the staff recipe; the Alchemist, Carpenter, Hunter and Farmer follow. This page covers that sequence for 1.0, what each one adds to your base, and which details guides disagree on.

01The Short Version

1. Free the Blacksmith (Oswald Anders) in the vault near your starting area. This is the quest Find The Sleeping Survivor, and it unlocks the Summoning Staff recipe.
2. Craft the Summoning Staff (the wiki lists a recipe of 1 Twig at manual crafting) and use it at your Flame Altar to move the survivor into your base.
3. Rescue the other crafters from their own Ancient Vaults: Alchemist, Carpenter, Hunter, Farmer.
4. Summon each one the same way, then build the stations they offer.

Survivors are not just flavour: the Flame Altar upgrade steps also ask for survivors housed in beds, so rescuing early pays off twice. See the Flame Altar upgrade guide for the numbers.

02How Survivors Work in 1.0

The wiki's NPC page lists 28 survivors in total: 11 craftspeople, 7 assistants and 10 villagers. Each one has to be rescued from a location in Embervale first and then summoned to your base with the Summoning Staff.

Craftspeople are the ones that matter for progression: each staffs a crafting station and a recipe list. Assistants are tied to a craftsperson (the Blacksmith's daughter Rochelle, for example, is listed as his assistant), and villagers are decorative residents.

Keen Games' 1.0 notes add two things worth knowing: the crafting survivors for the combat classes now also upgrade Eternal spells and arrows, and you can set a survivor's roaming distance (minimum 2 metres) before placing them for the first time. Keen Games describes it as configurable before you place a survivor for the first time.

03Blacksmith: Oswald Anders

He is the first survivor you free. The wiki places him in the "Ancient Vault - Blacksmith", not far from where you leave the Cinder Vault, and his unlock quest is Find The Sleeping Survivor. Keen Games' 1.0 changelog also notes that, on the main quest line, freeing him is designed to trigger your second level-up.

At the base he offers melee armor, weapons and shields, better axes, pickaxes and rakes, and the stations the wiki lists for him: Charcoal Kiln, Forge, Smelter and Blast Furnace. The Smelter needs a Crucible (quest Crucible Needed For A Smelter) and the Blast Furnace needs a Bellows (quest A Blast Furnace For The Blacksmith), so expect to hunt for those items rather than just craft them.

His quest The Blacksmith's Family sends you to find his daughter Rochelle, who becomes the Blacksmith's Assistant.

04Alchemist: Balthazar

Balthazar sits in the "Ancient Vault - Alchemist". GameLuster says to clear the Springlands Ancient Spire first, then glide west past the Harvest Homestead to the vault, fighting the Scavengers at the camp and gallery before the guards on the second floor.

That route comes from a 2024 Early Access guide, so treat the exact path as a hint and the vault name as the reliable part; the layout may have shifted in 1.0.

He crafts potions, spells, caster armor and reagents. The wiki ties his stations to quests: A Black Cauldron For The Alchemist (Alchemy Station), Scientific Instruments For A Laboratory (Laboratory) and Obtaining A Mill (Mill). His Grinding Stones need only Flintstone and Stone, so you can start on those at once.

05Hunter: Athalan Skree

GameLuster places the Hunter's vault in an eastern Ancient Vault, and you cannot simply glide in. That guide suggests double-jumping onto a rock ledge or digging through with a pickaxe, recommends being around level 3 or 4, and says to respec for Double Jump at the Flame Altar if you skipped it.

Inside, the guide describes electric bolt traps, switches and two Grappling Hook points (one over a lava hole). Bring the grappling hook before you go.

Recruiting her unlocks the Drying Rack, the Scout armor set, Flint and Scrap Arrows, torches and the Small Backpack (+8 slots), per GameLuster. Its walkthrough also says her quests lead on to the Farmer's vault.

06Farmer: Emily Fray

Emily's vault is listed on the wiki as "Ancient Vault - Farmer", and the quest that frees her is Growing Stronger Together. GameLuster's Hunter walkthrough says the Hunter's quests lead on to the Farmer's vault, so recruit Athalan first. I could not confirm a route or map direction from a second reliable source, so use the in-game quest and map.

At the base she offers food, farming and animal husbandry supplies. The wiki lists her stations and their quests: Seedbed, Cooking Station (Cooking Equipment For The Farmer), Oven, Beehive, Seafood Grill, Coffee Drum Roaster and Brewery. This is the cooking crafter, so there is no separate "Cook" survivor in the wiki's list.

07Carpenter: Cade Hawthorn

The wiki lists the Carpenter in the "Ancient Vault - Carpenter". The wiki gives only a map marker for the vault, not a written route, and I could not confirm a route from a second source, so rely on the in-game map and quest journal rather than a step-by-step.

He supplies storage chests, comfort items, decorations, the improved Grappling Hook and gliders, plus a Kiln (quest Carpentry Assistance) and Table Saw (quest Table Saw For The Carpenter).

08The Other Craftspeople

The wiki also lists Alden Crowley (Collector), Valory (Bard), Elio Ricci (Barber), Captain Melville Fontane (Fisher), Loraine Crim (Ancient Researcher) and Mei-Yin Chen (a Lunar New Year seasonal trader). The wiki does not tie each one to a specific location; it names Hollow Halls, the Sunken Ancient City, the Ring of Rot, the Elder's Night Sanctum and Ol' Captain's Rest as places holding the later survivors. Keen Games' 1.0 notes say a new survivor specialising in Ancient knowledge and recipes joins your base once you reach the new Cinder's Cradle region.

Because those mappings are unconfirmed, I am not giving routes for them; check the in-game journal and the wiki for your current progress.

09Common Problems

• Survivor won't appear at base: summon inside your Flame Altar's area, with the Summoning Staff equipped and the survivor selected. The wiki describes the staff as summoning rescued survivors into bases around a Flame Altar.
• Quest guides disagree: several guide pages swap quest names between crafters. Trust the vault name and the station quest your own journal shows.
• Old guides: pre-1.0 pages list fewer craftspeople and older routes. Check the date before following them.
