How to Beat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight in Shadow of the Erdtree

Rellana, Twin Moon Knight guards the top of Castle Ensis in the Gravesite Plain, and she's one of the first serious walls players hit in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC — a fast dual-wielding duelist who adds magic and fire to her blades once she's hurt. This guide covers where to find her, how to read both phases, her elemental weaknesses, and what you get for winning.

01Where to Find Rellana

Rellana's arena is at the top of Castle Ensis, a legacy dungeon in the Gravesite Plain — one of the first major landmarks players reach after entering the Land of Shadow. The Castle-Lord's Chamber Site of Grace is a short walk from her fog gate.

• Location: Castle Ensis, Gravesite Plain (Shadow of the Erdtree DLC)
• Boss type: Some guides note you can bypass this fight via a sealed Spiritspring lift that leads into Scadu Altus instead, so treat her as an early wall you can return to rather than a guaranteed roadblock.
• Recommended approach: A tanky spirit ash like Mimic Tear (+10 with the DLC's Somber Smithing Stones) or Greatshield Soldiers helps split her attention, since she otherwise focuses entirely on one target.

02Phase 1 — Twin Blade Combos and Ranged Pressure

Rellana fights with a paired sword and glaive in phase one, chaining long physical combos with delayed mix-ups designed to catch players who roll or attack too early.

• Multi-hit combo strings: Three- and six-hit chains that mix upward thrusts, spinning slashes, and a signature double-thrust finisher — the finishing thrust is your main punish window, not the hits before it.
• Gap-closing lunge: She propels herself forward to close distance fast; don't assume backing away buys you time.
• Carian Phalanx: Fires a trio of tracking glintstone blades — move laterally rather than straight back, since they track your position.
• Dagger projectiles: Daggers summoned near the ground fire off almost instantly once triggered, so react the moment you see them appear rather than waiting to confirm the throw.

Her phase-one damage is almost entirely physical, so this is the safer half of the fight to trade hits in if you can read her combo endings.

03Phase 2 — Elemental Twin Blades and the Twin Moon Attack

Around 50% health, Rellana infuses her weapons with Glintstone magic and Messmer's Flame, turning her existing combos into longer, elemental-damage strings and adding new ranged options.

• Moon-and-Fire Stance: Extended combo strings that end in waves of magic or fire pillars — the added elemental hits make her old phase-one punish windows riskier than before.
• 5-hit ranged slash combo: A longer-range follow-up she can throw out once she's lost enough health, punishing players who habitually close distance after a dodge.
• Twin Moon attack: Once her health drops further, she rises into the air and slams down two overlapping moons in succession, sending out arena-wide shockwaves. Jump three times in quick succession, timed to each moon's impact — the timing window is forgiving, but standing still or rolling isn't enough to avoid it.

Melee builds should keep pressuring her stance in phase two — Rellana staggers reliably under heavy or guard-countering attacks, and a stance break here often ends the fight faster than out-damaging her elemental combos.

04Weaknesses and Best Approach

Rellana strongly resists Magic damage despite fighting with elemental-infused blades, so leaning on sorceries against her is inefficient.

• Pierce: A confirmed weakness — spears, thrusting swords, and heavy thrusting swords are the most reliable damage-type pick for the fight.
• Lightning: Also a confirmed weakness, reportedly tied to the pool of water at the center of her arena; a lightning-infused weapon or incantation performs well here.
• Avoid: Magic damage — it's strongly resisted and underperforms compared to Pierce or Lightning options.
• Secondary options: A few guides also list Bleed, Poison, and Scarlet Rot as useful if you're already building around one of those effects, though Pierce and Lightning are the most consistently confirmed weaknesses.
• Defensive picks: A Spelldrake Talisman (or its upgraded versions) and a magic-resistant consumable like Spellproof Dried Liver noticeably soften phase two's elemental damage.

05Rewards for Defeating Rellana

Beating Rellana grants 240,000 Runes and the Remembrance of the Twin Moon Knight.

• Remembrance of the Twin Moon Knight: Take it to Enia at Roundtable Hold to exchange it for either Rellana's Twin Blades (a paired sword-and-glaive weapon) or Rellana's Twin Moons (a sorcery version of her AoE attack) — you choose one per Remembrance, and it can be duplicated at a Walking Mausoleum if you want both.
• Armor set: A cosmetic set based on her appearance is also purchasable from Enia after the fight.
