Scadutree Fragments in Elden Ring — The DLC Power-Up Explained

Updated June 20267 min readBy the HowToPlayHub team

Shadow of the Erdtree introduces a parallel progression system built entirely around Scadutree Fragments — collectibles scattered across the Land of Shadow that permanently raise your damage output and damage negation inside the DLC. Character level and weapon upgrade still matter, but without a high Scadutree Blessing, even a perfectly built Tarnished will struggle against the expansion's notoriously tough bosses.

01What Are Scadutree Fragments?

Scadutree Fragments are DLC-exclusive upgrade materials that feed into the Scadutree Blessing system. Every fragment is banked automatically — you do not use them one at a time. Instead, you spend them in batches at any Site of Grace by selecting the Scadutree Blessing menu option.

The buff applies only inside the Land of Shadow. The moment you return to the base-game world the bonus disappears, and it reactivates automatically when you re-enter the DLC. Think of it as the Land of Shadow's own scaling layer sitting on top of your character.

There are 50 Scadutree Fragments in total, required to reach the maximum Scadutree Blessing level of 20.

02How the Scadutree Blessing Works

Resting at any Site of Grace and choosing Scadutree Blessing opens a screen where you spend accumulated fragments to raise your blessing level. The cost per level rises as you progress, so early levels are cheap while the final levels need several fragments each.

The gains are front-loaded: the biggest jumps in offensive power come at lower levels. At maximum level you deal roughly twice as much damage and take less than half as much as an unblessed character.

03Why You Need to Prioritise Them

FromSoftware designed the DLC's bosses around players having a high Scadutree Blessing level. Unlike the base game, where over-leveling lets you power through, the blessing system enforces engagement with the DLC world. A character at blessing 0 faces bosses tuned for a very different power floor than the same character at blessing 12.

The difference in feel is dramatic. At low blessing levels, mid-DLC bosses can one- or two-shot even high-Vigor builds; at high blessing levels the same fights become learnable. The system is not optional padding — it is the primary balancing lever.

A practical target based on community experience:

  1. Collect all easily accessible fragments in the first region (around 10 are available before the first major boss).
  2. Aim for Blessing 5 before early optional bosses.
  3. Push to Blessing 10 before mid-DLC legacy dungeon bosses.
  4. Reach Blessing 14+ before the final stretches of the DLC.

04Where to Find Scadutree Fragments

Fragments are spread throughout the entire Land of Shadow. Knowing the categories of locations helps you sweep regions efficiently.

The first region around Gravesite Plain contains roughly 10 fragments — enough to hit Blessing 4 or 5 before moving on. Each subsequent region adds more, so methodical exploration naturally raises your blessing alongside story progress.

05Revered Spirit Ash: The Companion System

Revered Spirit Ash is the direct equivalent of Scadutree Fragments but for your summoned Spirit Ashes and Torrent. Spending them at a Site of Grace through the same menu raises your Revered Spirit Ash Blessing.

Each level increases the damage your summons deal and reduces the damage they take — a significant quality-of-life boost for summon-reliant builds, since DLC enemies otherwise shred Spirit Ashes quickly. Like the Scadutree Blessing, it is active only inside the Land of Shadow.

Revered Spirit Ashes are found in the same kinds of locations as Scadutree Fragments — near Miquella's Crosses, in churches, and as dungeon rewards — so exploring for one usually yields the other.

06Tips for Efficient Fragment Hunting

Collecting all 50 fragments without a guide is achievable with thorough exploration, but a few habits speed things up.

  1. Track Miquella's Crosses on the map and clear the fragment at each base before moving on.
  2. Clear every minor dungeon you encounter — interior fragments are easy to skip if you rush past cave entrances.
  3. Kill fragment-dropping enemies on first encounter — subsequent kills do not drop fragments, so first contact is your only chance.
  4. Explore church buildings fully — check behind altars, around statues, and in adjacent graveyards.
  5. Follow questlines that naturally route you through fragment-bearing areas.
  6. Spend early rather than hoarding — fragments carry over, but the sooner you raise your blessing, the more comfortable the DLC becomes.

FAQ

Do Scadutree Fragments carry over to New Game Plus?

In NG+, all DLC content resets — Scadutree Fragments must be collected again and your Scadutree Blessing returns to 0. Your base character stats and equipment carry over as normal, but the blessing system starts fresh in each new cycle.

What is the maximum Scadutree Blessing level and how many fragments does it take?

The maximum Scadutree Blessing level is 20, reached by collecting and spending all 50 Scadutree Fragments found in the Land of Shadow. At max level you deal roughly twice your base damage and take less than half as much compared to an unblessed character.

Does the Scadutree Blessing affect Spirit Ash summons?

No. The Scadutree Blessing only improves your own character's damage dealt and damage negation. Spirit Ash summons have their own separate system, the Revered Spirit Ash Blessing, which you level using Revered Spirit Ash collectibles found across the same region.

Can you miss Scadutree Fragments permanently?

Most world-pickup fragments can be collected at any point and are not missable. However, fragments dropped by certain enemies are only obtainable on the first kill of that enemy — if you kill one after it has dropped its jar, that fragment is lost for the playthrough. Boss-drop fragments are standard rewards tied to defeating the boss.
