FC 26 Manager Live Challenges Season Points, ICONs & strategy
Manager Live is one of the biggest changes EA has made to Career Mode in years. Rather than relying solely on a single long-term save for engagement, FC 26 introduces a rotating hub of scenario-based challenges — each a focused slice of management with specific conditions, time limits, and rewards. This guide explains how the Manager Live hub works, what each challenge type asks of you, and how to approach them efficiently to earn the most Season Points and permanent ICON rewards.
01What Is Manager Live?
Manager Live is a dedicated section within Manager Career in EA Sports FC 26. It presents a rotating selection of challenges organised by time window — weekly challenges that refresh every seven days, monthly challenges that run for the entire calendar month, and seasonal challenges available for the full Career Mode Season (approximately three to four months).
Each challenge is a self-contained scenario: you are placed in control of a specific club (or choose from a filtered list), given a defined starting point (which may be mid-season), and assigned a concrete objective to complete within a fixed number of matches. You do not carry any players, tactics, or progress from your main career save into a Manager Live challenge — each one begins fresh.
The challenges are separate from but run alongside your main Manager Career save. Completing a challenge has no effect on your primary save. You can switch between your main career and Manager Live challenges freely from the Career Mode main menu.
02Types of Manager Live Challenges
Challenges in the Manager Live hub fall into several recurring categories:
- Survival Challenges — The most common short-form type. You take over a club in a relegation zone or facing a points deduction and must achieve a specific result (stay up, reach a certain points total, or win a given number of consecutive matches) within a defined window. Examples include 'Take any club in the bottom three of the Premier League and guide them to safety by the end of the season' or 'Survive five consecutive matches without losing.'
- Trophy Challenges — These set a single silverware target: win a specific cup competition, win the league title, or claim a historic double or treble. Trophy challenges typically offer more match time (an entire season or more) and award more Season Points than survival challenges.
- Reactive Challenges — Time-limited challenges released in response to real-world football events. They create 'what if' scenarios — for example, simulating what would happen if the current league leaders lost their next five matches, or if an underdog had upset a dominant champion. These challenges are available for a short window (typically one to two weeks) before expiring.
- Road to Glory — A longer-form challenge asking you to achieve multiple sequential objectives — typically a promotion, a domestic league title, and a European trophy — within three seasons. This is the most demanding and most rewarding type in terms of Season Points.
- Restriction Challenges — Challenges where the transfer or squad rules are deliberately constrained. Examples include signing only players under 23 during the window, building a squad from a single nation, or working within a transfer budget under £5 million. These are aimed at experienced Career Mode players who find the default version too open-ended.
Not all challenge types are available simultaneously. The weekly and monthly windows rotate the catalogue, so checking the Manager Live hub regularly exposes different challenge types than returning only once a month.
03Challenge Parameters Explained
Before accepting a Manager Live challenge, the game shows you its parameters — a set of conditions that define how the challenge runs. Understanding these prevents frustrating surprises mid-challenge:
- Eligible Clubs — Some challenges let you choose any club from a defined list (any club in the bottom five of La Liga, any club that finished outside the top six last season). Others assign you a specific club with no choice.
- Start Date — The simulated calendar date you join the club. Joining in January means the summer transfer window has already passed and you work with the existing squad; joining in July gives you a pre-season window.
- Transfer Restrictions — Any limits on signings. Some challenges open the full transfer system; others restrict you to free agents, under-23 players, or players from specific leagues or nationalities.
- Match Count / Time Limit — How many matches you have to meet the objective. Some challenges give you an entire simulated season; others give you five or ten matches.
- Win Condition — The exact result required. Read this carefully — 'survive relegation' means finishing 17th or above, not 'finish in the top half'.
04Season Points and the Career Mode Season Pass
Every Manager Live challenge completed — or meaningfully progressed through, even if the final objective is missed — awards Season Points (SP). SP accumulate across all Career Mode activity: both Manager Live challenges and a set of passive milestones from your main save (wins, goals scored, matches completed).
Season Points fill the Career Mode Season Pass, which has a free tier and a premium tier. The Season Pass does not expire mid-season — points you earn in October carry forward to unlock a reward in February of the same season.
- Free tier — Rewards include cosmetic Vanity items (celebration animations, coaching staff skins, stadium customisation options), occasionally licensed retro kits, and at least one ICON per season. Season 1 featured David Beckham on the standard (free) tier. These unlock at intervals throughout the Season Pass track.
- Premium tier — The paid tier adds further permanent ICON and Hero player cards to your Career Mode library. Once unlocked, any ICON is permanently available in any future Career Mode save — it does not expire when the Season ends.
- Passive SP from your main save — Even if you never touch a Manager Live challenge, playing your main Manager Career save earns SP at a slower rate through automatic milestones. A casual player who ignores Manager Live entirely will still advance the Season Pass over a full season.
Partial completion of a Manager Live challenge earns SP proportional to progress. Failing the final objective on the last match of a survival challenge still rewards you for the matches played — you are not punished with zero for falling short.
05Strategies for Clearing Challenges Efficiently
A few practical approaches make Manager Live challenges significantly easier to complete:
- Start with weekly survival challenges. Short-form survival challenges (five to ten matches) are the fastest SP earners per hour of play, especially early in a Season. Complete two or three per month to stay ahead of the Season Pass track without committing to long multi-season runs.
- Match your chosen club's style to the challenge's restrictions. If a challenge restricts transfers to free agents, choose a club that already has a strong existing squad in the target position — you will not be able to fill gaps easily.
- Use the Authentic gameplay preset for the match AI's tactical behaviours, not just the difficulty setting. On higher difficulties, Authentic's physics model makes defending more reliable than Competitive's faster animations, because you can read and react to ball movement more predictably.
- Simulate matches when you have a comfortable lead and the objective is not points-per-game. In a survival challenge where you need to reach 40 points, the last five or six matches once you are safe can be simulated to save time. Save manual control for the critical results.
- Check the Reactive Challenge window regularly. Reactive challenges are time-limited and often offer more SP per match than the standard weekly rotation, because they are designed to capture engagement around real-world events. Missing them means missing the SP.
- Road to Glory challenges are the highest total SP earners. If you have the time for a three-season run, completing Road to Glory in full yields significantly more points than an equivalent number of short survival challenges. Start one in the second or third month of a Season so you finish before the Season resets.
06ICON Rewards and How They Carry Over
The headline permanent rewards from the Manager Live Season Pass are ICON and Hero player cards. These are licensed versions of legendary players — David Beckham was the Season 1 example, available on the standard (free) tier — unlocked at specific thresholds on the Season Pass track.
Once unlocked, an ICON is added to your Career Mode library permanently. You can use them in any future Manager Career or Player Career save from that point forward — the card does not disappear when the current Season ends, and it does not need to be re-unlocked in future Seasons.
Retro kits unlocked as free-tier rewards similarly persist. A retro Manchester United kit unlocked in Season 1 can be applied in any future save that involves that club.
EA has indicated that each new Career Mode Season will feature different ICON and Hero rewards, building a library over time for players who engage with multiple Seasons. Players who miss a Season cannot retroactively unlock its ICON rewards — the Season Pass does not carry over between Seasons.
FAQ
What are Manager Live challenges in FC 26?
Manager Live challenges are scenario-based objectives within FC 26's Manager Career mode. Each challenge places you in control of a specific club with defined conditions — survive relegation, win a trophy, work within transfer restrictions — and a finite number of matches to meet the objective. They run on weekly, monthly, and seasonal rotations and award Season Points, cosmetic rewards, and in some cases permanent ICON unlocks.
How do I earn Season Points in FC 26 Career Mode?
Season Points are earned by completing Manager Live challenges, partially completing them (even falling short of the final objective), and through passive milestones in your main Manager Career save (wins, goals, matches played). Points accumulate on the Career Mode Season Pass track, unlocking free and premium rewards at set thresholds.
Are FC 26 ICON rewards from the Season Pass permanent?
Yes. Any ICON or Hero card unlocked through the Career Mode Season Pass is permanently added to your library and available in any future Career Mode save. They do not expire when the Season ends. However, ICON rewards are Season-specific — if you miss a Season's pass, you cannot earn that Season's ICON rewards retroactively.
How long do Manager Live challenges take to complete?
Short-form survival challenges (five to ten matches) typically take one to two hours to complete manually, or less if you simulate comfortable matches. Monthly trophy challenges spanning a full simulated season take four to six hours. The Road to Glory multi-season challenge is the longest commitment at roughly eight to twelve hours across three simulated seasons.
What is the Road to Glory challenge in FC 26?
Road to Glory is a multi-season Manager Live challenge in FC 26 that requires completing three sequential objectives: winning a promotion, claiming a domestic league title, and winning the UEFA Champions League — all within three simulated seasons. It is the most demanding and highest total Season Points reward in the Manager Live catalogue.
Do Manager Live challenges affect my main Career Mode save?
No. Manager Live challenges are completely separate from your main Manager Career save. Each challenge starts fresh with a specific club and scenario; completing or failing a challenge has no effect on your primary save. You switch between your main career and Manager Live challenges freely from the Career Mode main menu.
