Borderlands 4 Vault Card 4: Desert Dreams Guide

Vault Card 4: Desert Dreams landed on July 30, 2026 with Patch 1.9, at the same moment as Bounty Pack 4 — which is exactly why so many players have the wrong idea about it. It is not the free half of that release. Here's what it costs, what's actually in it, and how its rewards unlock.

01Vault Card 4 Is Paid DLC — $5.99, Not a Free Drop

The single most common misconception about Desert Dreams is that it comes free with the base game or rides along with Bounty Pack 4. It doesn't. Vault Card 4 is a separate $5.99 purchase, and it's also bundled into the Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions and the Bounty Pack Bundle — so if you already own one of those, check your entitlements before buying it again.

The confusion is understandable. Both pieces of content dropped on the same day, both cost the same $5.99, and Vault Cards in general behave like the free seasonal tracks other looter shooters hand out. In Borderlands 4 the track itself is the thing you buy.

Once it's yours, though, there is no second payment anywhere in it. Every reward on the card comes from playing — XP and challenge progress, no per-item microtransactions, no premium tier stacked on top.

02What's Inside Desert Dreams

The card carries 28 rewards in total, split into cosmetics and gear:

• 24 cosmetic items — character heads, weapon skins, vehicle skins and ECHO-4 drone customization, all built around the desert theme the card is named for.
• 4 rerollable Legendary gear pieces — these are the reason to care if you don't chase cosmetics. Their rolls can be reforged rather than being locked in, so a piece that lands with the wrong stats isn't dead weight.

That rerollable property is what separates these four from a normal Legendary drop. A world-drop Legendary is whatever the game rolled for it; these you can keep pushing toward the roll you want, which makes them worth finishing the track for even late in a build's life.

Visually the set stands apart from the first three Vault Cards — Desert Dreams commits to its own aesthetic rather than reusing the earlier themes.

03Vault Card 4 vs. Bounty Pack 4 — Which One Do You Actually Want?

They released together, they cost the same, and they share nothing. Owning one gives you no part of the other:

• Vault Card 4 ($5.99): 24 cosmetics and 4 rerollable Legendaries, earned through normal play once you own the card.
• Bounty Pack 4: Murders & Acquisitions ($5.99): a new repeatable mission and its own dedicated loot pool — 1 Pearlescent weapon and 6 Legendary items.

So the decision is simpler than it looks. Want gear you can reroll and a full cosmetic set? That's the Vault Card, and Bounty Pack 4 adds nothing to it. Want the new mission, the Pearlescent and the six dedicated Legendaries? That's the pack, and the Vault Card won't get you there. Chasing both means two purchases — or a bundle edition that already covers them.
