AION 2 Classes Guide All 8 Classes
AION 2 launched globally with eight classes (Templar, Gladiator, Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Cleric and Chanter), all open to both Elyos and Asmodian characters, and you can't freely change class afterwards. For a first character, Gladiator, Templar, Cleric and Chanter are the safe, flexible choices, while Assassin and Spiritmaster reward experience.
01The eight classes at a glance
Role summaries below follow Fextralife's class page and Space4Games' class guide, which agree on the role of each class:
- Templar: frontline tank with strong defense and crowd control (uses sword and shield).
- Gladiator: melee fighter with heavy weapons and area strikes; Space4Games also calls it an off-tank option.
- Assassin: stealthy melee damage dealer built around burst.
- Ranger: ranged physical damage with bow and traps.
- Sorcerer: elemental magic ranged damage.
- Spiritmaster: summoner who commands elemental spirits.
- Cleric: healer with recovery and protective magic.
- Chanter: hybrid melee support with buffs and healing.
The class selection screen in game shows each class's weapon and armor type.
02Which class should a beginner pick?
There is no single best class. Gladiator, Templar, Cleric and Chanter are safe, flexible launch options, Ranger suits mobile ranged play and Sorcerer burst magic, and Assassin and Spiritmaster generally reward experience.
Fextralife's closing advice is the one worth following: the best class is usually the one that stays fun after many hours of play.
If you plan to group, remember that dungeon parties want a tank and a healer. Templar and Cleric fill those roles, but solo leveling is usually smoother on a self-sufficient damage class.
03Factions and classes
Both factions get all eight launch classes (Fextralife's Factions page; Space4Games agrees). There are no combat-stat differences between Elyos and Asmodian. Each server hosts only one faction according to Space4Games, so decide on faction together with your friends.
04Can you change class later?
Space4Games says there is currently no free class-change option and NC hasn't confirmed whether or when one will come to the global version. Fextralife does not address it. Create a spare character if you want to test another class: Space4Games reports four character slots at launch (sources do not agree whether that is per account or per server).
As characters progress, class identity deepens through the Path of Ascension quests at levels 5, 22, 32 and 45 (Fextralife). See the beginner guide for the level gates.
