One More Level and Lyrical Games moved Valor Mortis off its original September date to avoid a stacked release window — and confirmed it's coming day one to Xbox Game Pass. Here's the timeline, sourced from the developers' own announcements, plus what you can already try before launch.

01Confirmed Release Date: October 13, 2026

Valor Mortis releases on October 13, 2026 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S — all three platforms simultaneously, with no timed exclusivity. That date was reconfirmed in the game's story trailer announcement at gamescom's Opening Night Live on August 25, 2026.

It's also launching day one on Xbox Game Pass, according to the publisher's own press materials. There has been no announcement of a PlayStation Plus Game Catalog release alongside launch — if you're on PS5, budget for buying the game outright unless Sony or Lyrical Games says otherwise.

02Why the Date Moved from September 24

Valor Mortis originally carried a September 24, 2026 release date, announced alongside its first gameplay demo in June 2026. One More Level and Lyrical Games pushed it back roughly three weeks to October 13.

The developers were explicit about the reason: September 2026 turned into an unusually crowded month for major releases, and they wanted Valor Mortis — and players' wallets — some breathing room rather than competing directly for attention and sales in that window.

The extra weeks also gave the team more time to act on feedback from the public demo before locking the final build.

03What's Confirmed for Launch

• Xbox Game Pass: Available day one.
• Cast: César Award-winning actor Vincent Cassel voices Napoleon Bonaparte, confirmed in a June 2026 casting announcement and showcased again in the gamescom 2026 story trailer.
• Editions: Retail listings so far point to a single standard edition sold both physically and digitally, rather than a split standard/deluxe lineup — treat this as provisional until Steam, Xbox and PlayStation store pages publish final pricing and packaging.
• Demo: A free playable demo has been available on Steam since June 2026, covering a battlefield tutorial chapter and a tougher midgame Lighthouse level.

04Try the Demo Before You Buy

If you want a feel for the combat before committing, the Steam demo is the best way to do it pre-launch. It's built from two trimmed-down chapters rather than a vertical slice of the full campaign: an opening battlefield section that doubles as the combat tutorial, and a separate Lighthouse level introduced later that ramps up the difficulty and adds a transmutation-power puzzle element.

Demo builds are frequently rebalanced ahead of a game's final release, so don't assume enemy difficulty, Endurance costs or move sets in the demo will be identical to the October 13 launch build.
