How to Heal in Silksong — Bind & Silk
Healing is the mechanic that trips up the most Silksong players, especially anyone coming from Hollow Knight. Hornet does not heal one mask at a time — she uses Bind, an all-or-nothing burst that spends every strand of Silk. Understanding exactly how it works, and when it is safe to use, is the difference between surviving a boss and throwing your whole Silk pool away.
You heal in Silksong with Bind: hold the heal button to spend your entire Silk spool and restore three masks at once. It takes about 1.4 seconds, can be cast in mid-air, and is all-or-nothing — if Hornet is hit during the animation she loses all her Silk and heals nothing. Build Silk by attacking, then Bind in the gaps after enemy attacks. Blue Tools like the Injector Band and Warding Bell make Bind faster or safer.
01What Bind Is
Healing in Silksong is called Bind, and it works very differently to the Knight's Focus:
- It spends your entire Silk spool in one cast — you cannot heal a single mask.
- It restores three masks at once, making it a big, efficient heal when it lands.
- It takes about 1.4 seconds — faster than Hollow Knight's Focus.
- It can be cast in mid-air, which opens up safe healing windows the Knight never had.
Because Bind always costs the full spool regardless of how much Silk you have, healing with a near-full spool is efficient and healing with one extra strand is wasteful — time it for when your spool is high.
02The Interrupt Penalty
Bind's great strength is also its risk:
- If Hornet is hit during the Bind animation, you lose all your Silk and heal nothing. There is no partial credit.
- This makes a mistimed Bind a double loss — no healing and an empty spool you have to refill through combat.
- Only the very last fraction of the animation is safe; for practical purposes, treat the whole cast as interruptible.
- Create space first. Bind after a boss's heavy attack, during its recovery, after a parry, or from the air over a gap.
03When and How to Heal Safely
Good Bind timing is a learnable rhythm:
- Build Silk by attacking so you have a full or near-full spool before you need to heal.
- Wait for a punish window — most boss attacks have a recovery gap; that is your heal window.
- Use mid-air Bind to heal while jumping over an attack or retreating across a room.
- Do not greed — if you are not sure you have time for the full 1.4 seconds, keep attacking and wait for a cleaner opening.
- Parry to make space — a successful parry resets the enemy combo and can buy the moment you need to Bind.
04Crests & Tools That Change Healing
Your loadout can reshape how healing works:
- Beast Crest replaces Bind with a lifesteal mechanic — you heal by dealing damage instead of casting.
- Witch Crest changes healing toward an area leeching effect.
- Injector Band (Blue Tool) speeds up the Bind animation, shrinking the interrupt window.
- Warding Bell (Blue Tool) shields Hornet during Bind so a hit will not cancel it — a strong pick for aggressive players.
- Multibinder and Reserve Bind change how Bind is split or stored, giving more flexible emergency heals.
If you struggle with Bind timing, building around the Injector Band or Warding Bell makes healing far more reliable while you learn boss patterns.
FAQ
How do you heal in Hollow Knight: Silksong?
Hold the heal button to use Bind, which spends your entire Silk spool to restore three masks at once. It takes about 1.4 seconds and can be cast in mid-air. Build Silk by attacking enemies, then Bind during a safe window such as a boss's recovery after a big attack. If you are hit during the animation you lose all your Silk and heal nothing, so timing matters.
Why does Bind heal nothing sometimes in Silksong?
Because Bind is interrupted. If Hornet takes a hit at any point during the roughly 1.4-second animation, she loses her entire Silk spool and heals zero masks. There is no partial healing. Always create space before binding — heal after a boss's heavy attack, during its recovery, after a parry, or from mid-air over a gap rather than standing still next to the enemy.
Can you heal one mask at a time in Silksong?
No. Bind is all-or-nothing — it always spends your full Silk spool and restores three masks in a single cast, regardless of how much Silk you have. This means healing with a nearly full spool is efficient, while healing with just one spare strand wastes the rest. Time your heals for when your spool is high to get the most value.
How do I make healing easier in Silksong?
Equip Blue Tools that improve Bind: the Injector Band speeds up the animation to shrink the interrupt window, and the Warding Bell shields Hornet during Bind so a hit will not cancel it. Alternatively, the Beast Crest replaces Bind with lifesteal, healing you as you deal damage. Collecting Spool Fragments to enlarge your Silk pool also makes healing more reliable.
