Elden Ring Rune Level Calculator — Cost from Any Level to Any Level

Updated July 20265 min readBy the HowToPlayHub team

How many runes does it take to reach level 125 from your current build? Can your rune stack cover the next 10 levels, or just four? This calculator uses the exact formula the game uses internally — verified against the Fextralife and wiki.gg level tables — to give you a precise rune cost between any two levels. Enter your levels below and get an instant answer.

02How the Level-Up Formula Works

Elden Ring uses a two-part formula to determine the rune cost of each level-up. For levels 1–11 (where the adjusted level is 92 or below), only a flat quadratic term applies. From level 12 onward, an additional scaling term kicks in and accelerates the cost curve significantly — which is why the jump from level 11 (847 runes) to level 12 (1,038 runes) feels abrupt compared to the ~17-rune increases before it.

The formula for the cost of levelling from level L to L+1:

  1. Compute x = max(0, (L + 81 − 92) × 0.02). For levels 1–11, this is always zero.
  2. Compute cost = floor((x + 0.1) × (L + 81)² + 1).
  3. The result is rounded down to the nearest integer.

To find the total cost between two levels, sum the per-level costs across the range — which is exactly what the calculator above does. The formula is consistent across all platforms and patch versions of Elden Ring; FromSoftware has not changed it since release.

03Rune Costs at Key Milestones

These cumulative figures (runes from level 1 to reach each target level) are taken directly from the in-game formula and verified against the Fextralife wiki level table:

These numbers assume starting from level 1 (the Wretch class). If your starting class began at a higher level — for example, the Confessor starts at level 10 — subtract the cumulative cost to your starting level from the target. The calculator handles this automatically when you set a starting level above 1.

04PvP Matchmaking and Meta Levels

Elden Ring's PvP matchmaking uses your level plus your highest weapon upgrade tier to find opponents. Level caps matter for finding active co-op partners and balanced invasions:

Going substantially over the meta threshold doesn't break the game — PvE is unaffected — but it does reduce the pool of players you can co-op with or invade. If multiplayer matters to your playthrough, plan your levelling with the target bracket in mind before you start spending runes at the Site of Grace.

05Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

How many runes does it take to reach level 150 in Elden Ring?

Starting from level 1 (Wretch class), reaching level 150 requires 7,112,459 runes in total. If your starting class was higher — for example, Confessor at level 10 — you need the total from your actual starting level to 150, which is slightly less. Use the calculator above with your specific starting level for the precise figure.

What is the maximum level in Elden Ring?

The maximum level is 713, reached when every attribute (Vigor, Mind, Endurance, Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Faith, Arcane) is at 99. Getting there from level 1 requires approximately 1.69 billion runes — a number that exists mostly as a trivia fact. No viable PvE or PvP build requires it.

How many runes does it take to go from level 1 to level 125?

Exactly 3,984,881 runes. Level 125 is the traditional PvP meta level for Elden Ring base game — the most common stopping point for competitive players. At this level, each additional level costs around 100,000 runes.

Does the rune cost formula change between patches or platforms?

No. The levelling formula has remained unchanged across all patches since Elden Ring's launch and is identical on all platforms (PS4, PS5, Xbox, PC). Any calculator using the formula x = max(0, (L + 81 − 92) × 0.02), cost = floor((x + 0.1) × (L + 81)² + 1) will give accurate results.

Why does the rune cost jump sharply between level 11 and 12?

At level 11, the adjusted level value (level + 81) reaches exactly 92 — the point where the formula's scaling term switches from zero to positive. From level 12 onward, an additional multiplicative factor activates, which is why the cost leaps from 847 runes (level 11) to 1,038 runes (level 12) — a 22% jump versus the ~2% increases seen in earlier levels.

How many runes does each level cost at the PvP meta range?

At level 125, one level costs 100,998 runes. At level 150, one level costs 153,680 runes. These are individual level costs — for the total from level 1, use the calculator above or see the milestone table in this guide.
