ARC Raiders How to Extract Complete Extraction Guide

Updated September 20267 min readBy

Extraction is the moment everything you found in a raid either becomes yours or disappears forever. Understanding the different extraction methods, when to use each one, and how to reduce the risk of losing your loot at the last second is the most high-value knowledge a new Raider can have. Dying with a full backpack of rare items is one of the most punishing experiences in ARC Raiders, and almost all of it is avoidable with the right habits.

01The Extraction Rule

Items in your main backpack inventory are permanently lost if you die before extracting. The only exception is your Safe Pocket — a separate, dedicated slot whose contents survive death regardless of where or how you die. Everything else is at risk from the moment you drop in until the moment the extraction animation completes.

This rule means that extraction is not an afterthought — it is half the game. Before you push into a new area to loot, you should already know: where the nearest extraction point is, how much time it takes to reach it, and whether you have an exit option that doesn't require crossing contested ground.

Plan your exit before you need it.

02Extraction Methods: Elevator Shafts

Elevator shafts are one of the three standard, key-free extraction types in ARC Raiders — which type you get depends on the map. Dam and Spaceport use cargo elevators, Blue Gate uses airshafts, and Buried City uses metro/train stations instead. Whichever one your map has, the process is the same: find the extraction console, interact with it to start the sequence, then wait for the platform, cage, or train to arrive before riding it out.

The key tactical consideration: standard extraction points are loud. Activating the console plays an audible warning sound that alerts nearby ARC machines and tips off other Raider squads that someone is trying to leave. The activation sequence takes roughly 15 seconds before the doors open, and once you board, the extraction departs on an automatic timer — it doesn't wait indefinitely for a full squad. Loot runners are predictable targets on these points because the location is fixed and the activation sound gives away their position.

Countermeasures for elevator extraction:

03Extraction Methods: Metro Stations

Metro (train) stations work on the same mechanics as elevators — interact with the activation console, wait out the activation sequence, then board and exit. They're currently unique to Buried City, where they replace the cargo elevators found on Dam and Spaceport.

Metro stations share the same weakness as elevators: activation plays an audible warning that alerts nearby threats, and the short wait before doors open is a vulnerability window. The same tactical principles apply — clear the area first, have your squad cover the approach, and once you board, remember the departure runs on its own timer rather than waiting for stragglers.

04Extraction Methods: Raider Hatches (Recommended)

Raider Hatches are the safest extraction method in ARC Raiders and the one every experienced Raider prioritises. A Raider Hatch is a hidden, single-use exit point that requires a Raider Hatch Key to activate — and unlike elevators or metros, it makes no noise, triggers no animation visible to nearby enemies, and has no wait window where you are a stationary target.

Where to get Raider Hatch Keys: once you've reached Level 12, you can buy one from Shani, the security vendor at Speranza, for 9,000 credits — limited to one purchase every 24 real-world hours. They can also drop as a reward from certain quests, such as Hatch Repair. Always buy one before a run and keep it in your Safe Pocket so it survives even if you die before using it.

The practical impact of using a Raider Hatch:

If you are carrying any Legendary Blueprint, rare crafting material, or anything else you genuinely cannot afford to lose, use a Raider Hatch to get it home.

05The Holster Sprint: How to Move Faster When It Counts

One of the least obvious but most practically important survival mechanics in ARC Raiders: pressing your weapon holster key puts away your active weapon and increases your sprint speed significantly. You cannot shoot while holstered, but you move considerably faster than with a weapon drawn. Check your keybinds menu for the current holster key on your platform — it's rebindable, and it's worth putting somewhere easy to reach since you'll use it constantly.

When to use this:

This is especially important for solo players who cannot rely on a teammate to buy time during a retreat.

06Safe Pocket Strategy for Extraction

Your Safe Pocket should be treated as pre-extraction insurance, not an afterthought. Every time you loot something valuable, ask immediately: does this go in the safe pocket?

Priority order for safe pocket slots:

Do not put weapons in your safe pocket. Weapons can be re-crafted; Blueprints, rare keys, and rare components cannot be quickly replaced.

07When to Extract vs. When to Keep Looting

The hardest decision in ARC Raiders is when to stop looting and head for the exit. The temptation to push into the next room or one more building is exactly how most valuable runs turn into empty-handed deaths.

Use these signals as your cue to start moving towards an extraction point:

Greed is the primary cause of failed extractions. A successful extraction with modest loot advances your progression; a death with exceptional loot does not.

FAQ

How do you extract in ARC Raiders?

To extract in ARC Raiders, reach the extraction point on your map — a cargo elevator (Dam, Spaceport), an airshaft (Blue Gate), a metro station (Buried City), or a Raider Hatch on any map — and interact with the activation console. Elevator, airshaft, and metro extractions play an audible warning and require a short wait (roughly 15 seconds) before you can board, during which you are vulnerable. Raider Hatches are instant and silent but require a Raider Hatch Key. Only items in your Safe Pocket are guaranteed to come home with you if you die before completing the extraction.

What is a Raider Hatch in ARC Raiders?

A Raider Hatch is the safest extraction method in ARC Raiders. It is a hidden single-use exit point that requires a Raider Hatch Key to activate. Once you're Level 12, keys can be bought from Shani at Speranza for 9,000 credits (limited to one every 24 real-world hours), or earned from certain quest rewards. Unlike elevators, airshafts, and metro stations, Raider Hatches make no noise on activation and have no countdown window, making them invisible and instant exits. Keep a Raider Hatch Key in your Safe Pocket on every run so you always have this option available.

What is the Safe Pocket in ARC Raiders?

The Safe Pocket is a set of dedicated inventory slots separate from your main backpack. Items placed in the Safe Pocket are kept permanently even if you die during a raid without extracting. Everyone starts with 1 slot, and equipping certain Augments adds more — how many extra slots you have depends on which Augment path you've built into, not just your overall tier, so check your current build rather than assuming a fixed number. Always fill it with your most irreplaceable items — typically a Raider Hatch Key first, then any Legendary Blueprint or rare crafting material.

How do you run faster in ARC Raiders?

Press your weapon holster key to put away your active weapon. Holstering significantly increases your sprint speed, which is essential when running to an extraction point under pressure. You cannot fire while holstered, but the speed boost is substantial enough that it is frequently worth the trade-off when trying to escape. The key is rebindable, so check your current keybinds if you're not sure what it's set to.

Can you extract with a full backpack in ARC Raiders?

You can attempt extraction with a full backpack, but carrying too much weight reduces your stamina regeneration during sprinting, making the run to the extraction point slower and more punishing. If your backpack is at maximum weight, consider recycling or dropping low-value items to restore your movement efficiency before heading for the exit.

What happens if you die at the extraction point?

If you die at or near an extraction point before completing the extraction animation, your main backpack inventory is lost just as it would be anywhere else on the map. Only Safe Pocket items are preserved. This is why covering your extraction point from enemies and clearing the area before activating an elevator or metro is so important — dying at the last second is just as costly as dying in the middle of the map.
